DPF....?

Just been reading a post re new MOT laws and dpf,
my car has been modified but not by me, I am guessing its been removed, as the exhaust as far as I can tell is straight thru
from manifold.
so my dilemma is how do I know if it should have one fitted as standard or not ?
can anyone advise please...
Its a 2000 X- registered b5 avant 2.5tdi..

Afraid im showing my ignorrance now im not mechanically minded at all apart from very basics.
I confess to wanting my car to look the dogs doo dah's but when it breaks I go to my local indie because I aint got a clue,
That's why I asked the question, cos ive no idea whether it should or not, and was just concerned I may have issues when next MOT is due . That's why this site is invaluable to numpties like me lol.

Way to early DPF only started to appear in the B7 model A4, B5 & B6 only had cats.

Definitely wasn't fitted with a DPF.

Plus I read rumours that the DPF check will only apply on EU5 compliant cars (mainly 2010 cars onwards). Not sure how true this is

DPF are not mandatory even if fitted as standard.
Friends 2010 A5 was just de-DPF'd as the alternative was a £2.5k Audi bill, so long as the removal is accompanied by the appropriate electronic changes (no idea what they actually do!! assume they code it out)

DPF's will be mandatory next year if the car was fitted with one at time of manufacture, otherwise it's won't pass the MOT. (unless the MOT tester is blind and cannot see when some has cut it open and removed the internals and welded it back up)

If you could (which I very much doubt) you'd be doing exceptionally well as the DPF is partially hidden and when the bonnet is opened you can only view the top of it including one of the sensors. For him to view the bottom of the DPF he's looking at removing an awful lot of the underneath of the car - something that they will never do. Thats why the DPF is cut at the bottom and the cannister kept and rewelded on original weld line and blended. The MOT'er will never know its been done.

that's a physical check for the presence of a filter (or something that looks like one)
not a particulate level check in emissions

take your point that it renders it a fail IF discovered but as above it makes the testers job much more difficult as a DPF on some cars is almost an engine out job
