8V S3 Tuning Thread

I'd be somewhat miffed at the initial reading and would be having a word at Audi. It's likely affected your stage 1 reading as I'd have expected the car to make a chunk more than 325 had it been running on full steam to start off with. How accurate is the dyno? They can be all over the place. Was any other car ran at the same time to get a benchmark?

Shark have put a custom tuning box on. +45BHP/60Nm
Didn't have time to discuss the ins and outs as was in a rush. Suffice to say it's pretty mental having more torque than an RS4 in something so small!

Awesome news! Must be the first public mapped S3 in the UK? 320bhp is a bit disappointing though. I was hoping a remap would get me up to the same level as my old 8P Stage 2+ S3.

To be honest you can't believe manufacturer's figures, take mpg figures for example they're nothing like what you get in the real world. +/-5% isn't too bad on performance figures.
Shark's dyno is regarded as one of the most accurate around.

Ignore the final figure, +45bhp/60Nm is good from a tuning box. I'm sure they'll be more to come when the car can be mapped properly.
Trust me tho 460Nm is pretty crazy!!!

Good stuff geefunk!

What does the box look like? In the engine bay?

Is it still safe to assume ABT have definitely gotten a 70bhp increase from their bit of kit?

I'll take a photo to show you, it's just a little grey box with some connections at the front of the engine. Should be easy to take out come main dealer service time!

All depends what they had stock reading standard, if it had 310 on their dyno then I guess it's plausible to see 370.

Shark could do with another S3 to read against if there's any volunteers?!

It's going to Milltek in January for exhaust development. I think that'll be a first too!

Thats what's first on the hit list for me, so looking forward to hearing how you get on with Milltek
Hopefully be on the market by the time I get mine at the end on Jan

A pic would be great!

Hopefully news of this development will get around the other tuning companies and they will be keen to get their product out as quickly as possible..

A Milltek is gonna sound incredible on this car!

Oh forgot, it'll be getting some proper stoppers sorted soon too as myself and Shark have got a separate company specialising in brake upgrades. Brembo 4 pots will look the business....

A standard car already does 10 secs to a hundred. Mine goes on the dyno this Tuesday coming at Statllers so we will see, there dyno is also pretty heart braking aswell, if it makes good power there I'll be happy.

Great to see the early pilots testing the limits and beyond for the S3 .Does the S-tronic box need separate tuning from the engine ?as i know MTM in Germany have a tune for the Stonic box

Not that i know of, i asked ABT via e-mail and they replied saying that there is no requirement for the gearbox to be tuned!

Deffo should be well run in, it's not used a drop of oil yet and feels strong so we will see.

Anyone know of any cold air intake development for the A3 / S3 yet?

I'd imagine ITG would be the preferred choice for most here?

You been giving it the beans? What do you think of it?
Just ran it in as I said I was gonna in the running in thread. First 40 miles are key. Then I've just driven it as I would any of my cars from then on, which does involve giving it some welly once warmed up. It goes well, especially off the line, plenty of grip in the twisty's but does under steer once pushed. Steering feel isn't great but I can live with that. Really wanna get HPA's competition controller for the haldex that will change the whole characteristics of the 4wd which should improve things.

whats the HPA comp controller Rob ? link ?

i am massively critical of the steering and understeer, but will live with it, was looking at the Quaife Diff as a potential solution. have you considered it ?

My current car is 500+ so 460 ish in a small car such as the A3 will be brilliant! :)

Do HPA or any other have any controller for Gen.5 haldex? I haven't find any yet...

Here's the link HPA Motorsports, Inc. - HaldexProbably not but is the haldex deffo gen 5 I herd it could be 4. Anyway we're gonna have a look when we drop the oil at the code on the haldex to see. They will offer one at some point though. Yeah I have noticed a few times wheel spin from the front when pulling out of junctions which and LSD would solve aswell as the other issues. Overall it would improve things, may aswell through it in ;).

I dont deny that you in love with your new car and you expect it to get at least 50-60 bhp from the map but please do more research. First info reg new S3s power claimed it having 276bhp 280ft New Audi S3 to rival BMW M135i | Autocar what made many of us disappointed. Then nothing for a long long time and finally after long wait they released that it will get 296 in the end. In reg to 85kg difference you compared S3 3dr manual vs a45 amg DTC. Just so you know S3 S-stronic 5dr weight is 1445kg against A45 5dr 1480kg. S3 can be cheap to buy standard but once you added on few bits the price goes dangerously close to 38k mark.

Yeh I read that article, see below quotation from it:
Insiders are claiming a 276bhp output in the new S3, plus a torque figure of 280lb ft.
These are rises of 15bhp and 22lb ft over the old S3’s engine.

If you believe that trade press speculation published 9 MONTHS BEFORE the car was eventually officially unveiled equates to quoting 100% confirmed information from Audi then you must be f***ing stupid.

So where is the official 300bhp gone when after last official dyno done by geefunk1978 his S3 made 280bhp so in my thinking Insiders were closer than to what Audi tells you in the brochure. Chill out and enjoy your car. Would be nice to see what other power figure people get though.

With regards to mine being tuned, be aware it is a development at the minute and may not equate to what actually goes to market eventually. Ben at Shark is one of my best mates and business partner and we're merely using my car as a test mule as I have a new S3.

I don't know if mine is pushing 280 or 300, but would say either way a little extra horse would make it very nice. Feels a little light right now, though keeping the boost high and flicking paddles makes it go not bad.
