8V S3 Tuning Thread

I might have to give them a call and find out exactly what their stage 1 map is and how they go about tuning it i.e. Whether it's the same as ABT's bolt on seperate ECU, or if they need to take it out to remap it, the latter of course needs to be done very skillfully to avoid tell tale markings of tampering..

I wouldnt bother wasting your time tbh!

Just be patient and wait jonny, no word on maps yet either.

Well Revo definitely won't be a tuning box, there's no need apparently and there will be nothing this year which is no surprise really.

Will hopefully be putting it on the dyno on the 17th at statllers, see whats what.

Have you spoken to Revo about this? Currently the only way to avoid getting a TD1 flag on your ECU is to use a secondary or intermediary ECU - this is what ABT do. Either Revo are making a map and ignoring the TD1 flag it will tarnish your ECU with or (hopefully) they've come up with some trickery to avoid this.

As mentioned before guys, tuning boxes seem to generally be the only tuning solution for these new breed of motors/ECUs without kissing goodbye to your warranty.

I'm confident that Revo and such companies will be well aware of this, and will be using their magic as best they can to find a solution to it, they almost always find a way around it..

If it's a tuning box bolt on then i'm still going down the tuning route!

As soon as you touch or fiddle with an ECU it will leave a trace no matter what you do. This "TD1 flag" is a load of rubbish. If a main dealer wanted to know if a car's been mapped they can find out. It all depends on whether a dealer can prove that it was the remap that caused the damage if something goes wrong...

I always buy a remap that comes with it's own warranty, saves any dispute then...

Which is precisely the purpose of putting a secondary ECU in, it means there is no TD1 flag left on the main ECU. I'd really rather not be in the position of having to argue my case with a dealer if there was an issue with the engine or transmission, even if the remap had nothing to do with it.

Agreed, but ABT's secondary ECU is visible in the engine bay, so surely the dealership is going to spot that when in for a service? Unless of course you have it taken off beforehand, but i have got no idea how difficult / easy that is to do...

I'm unsure how the 6 speed s tronic wil cope with a stage 1 considering the 7 speed box is deemed too fragile for the standard s3 300ps...

ABT say there is no need for hardware or even remapping the gearbox on this S3 for stage 1, and i have it on good authority that another tuning company in Germany have gotten this S3 to 450bhp, what stage and parts that entails - i have no idea

Same S-tronic that is used in the old Golf-R...there are a lot of Rs that has +400hp and +400nm without any issues.
Generally this s-tronic(dsg) is quite good and problem free... compared to other models.

A45 AMG with stage 1 gets up to 400 bhp and they said it can't be tuned but there you go.
Well...two different car with two different HW and different HW limits(specs).
The reason that they use the 6-speed is that it can take more torque than the 7 speed. There is also some golf R32 with turbos that run 500-550nm without problems, but they usually have some modified SW on the transmission.
DQ 250

I doubt the new S3 will actually get up to 370 with just a remap. Remember that initially it had 276 or 280 upped later to 296 due to competitors. So there is some potential already used and 370 is more realistic with stage 2 tbh and 450 yes but with stage 3 that isnt enough to make me buy one as I can get pretty much same result for less with 8p S3 having proven kits on the market that have been tested for years now. A45 seems to be better choice, more vulgar, more agressive and brilliant handling, interior is not too bad either. S3 is nice but maybe I would have bought it if I were in mid 50s or family of 3 kids. So far my next car is either TTRS or A45.

Well ABT who are apparently conservative when it comes to figures dyno'd their stage 1 kit at 370bhp with 0.5 of a second off the 0-60 time...

70bhp from a stage 1 map is certainly possible, look at the current S4 - stage 1 takes it to 400bhp

It will be a bit of a wait but i reckon the tuning potential of this new S3 engine will be huge!

I also considered the A45 AMG, but at a 38K starting price it seems a bit exortionate, not keen on the interior and the huge Tom Tom lookalike stuck above the air vents, but do really like the aggressive look of it. Also, i read the ride is ridiculously hard, i remember reading that it makes the Megane feel like a limo...and for me who does 20K a year it just wasn't feasable...

Would love to drive one though!

I'm sorry, what? Published power figure for the S3 has always been 296bhp ever since being officially unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show - http://www.autoweek.com/article/20130212/geneva/130219947

Like Johnny said, ABT have already achieved 370bhp and they are the first ones to market so it is likely that competitors will come out with something to match this at least.

A45 is a lot more expensive and a lot heavier (85Kg over the S3 sportback).

Hence the very close 0-60 time considering the 60bhp advantage!!

I dont deny that you in love with your new car and you expect it to get at least 50-60 bhp from the map but please do more research. First info reg new S3s power claimed it having 276bhp 280ft New Audi S3 to rival BMW M135i | Autocar what made many of us disappointed. Then nothing for a long long time and finally after long wait they released that it will get 296 in the end. In reg to 85kg difference you compared S3 3dr manual vs a45 amg DTC. Just so you know S3 S-stronic 5dr weight is 1445kg against A45 5dr 1480kg. S3 can be cheap to buy standard but once you added on few bits the price goes dangerously close to 38k mark.

You need to be adding an awefull lot of options to get it to £38k!
I added quite a few options including the expensive ones (S-Tronic/B&O/SS Seats) and it came in at £34k (£32k after discount).
You'll soon see what power they actually produce as mine is on the rollers as we speak....

Cant wait to see the results as this is key factor for me to decide what car im getting next. If the rumors are true then I'd be more than happy and stick with audi but otherwise TTRS or A45. £32 is a great deal tbh buddy, how did you get it?:]

Just the discount I got including my part ex from Audi as I went back to the same dealership where I bought my last S3 from.

Well the dyno results are in.....can you guess?!?!

ok ok it made 280bhp at the flywheel and 396Nm torque. So bhp is down but torque is about spot on. A little disappointing it is less then the 296bhp it's meant to be but it is what it is.
That was with a full tank of Tesco Momentum 99 too...

It'll be interesting to see what a Milltek adds to the power when that gets fitted in January.
Just realised torque is actually more than it's meant to be, standard is supposedly 380Nm.

That wheels are amazing how much did they set you back Johhnyb if I may ask? They're 19 or 20?

19's mate, cost me £1900

Check page 94 of the S3 thread to see my pics, this article i where i first saw them, i believe it was a member called mickbrown that originally posted it, so have him to thank for them..

Don't forget Geefunk - dyno's are a bit of a lottery, you could get rigged up to a different one tomorrow and it might make 296...

Do they state whats included in this kit?

Fantastic wheels must say and they look stunning against the white. I saw your pics and its best S3 out there so far:).

Yeah it's basically a bolt on seperate ECU that goes in your engine bay, meaning Audi won't spot it when the plug their system in, but i have no idea how inconspicous it is in the engine bay, i'd imagine it's something they would spot..

You would have to go down to ABT in Milton Keynes to have it fitted, and it will cost you around £1900, maybe less if you haggle or organise a small group buy..

But given ABT are conservative with figures, it could be even more than 370bhp..

Interestingly, they told me that the ECU software only activates once the engine has warmed up to optimum temperature..

Pricey? Yes, but a huge gain!

Be worth seeing what the other tuning companies come up with in 2014, exciting stuff!

In all honesty the dyno at Shark Performance is widely regarded as one of the most accurate out there. That's why Milltek use it to dyno their cars.
I'm not worried it's down on power as torque is what really matters!

I would be very surprised if just an ECU upgrade adds 90bhp!!!

ABT's S3 might have came out of the factory at circa 300bhp?

If not, i'd be surprised too!

It's done 360 miles, but that won't make any difference to the results.
Drove it back from Grimsby to home (90 miles) at a pretty steady 80-85 on motorways then it's been driven quite hard a few times since and a mix of steady driving to work.
