Hi There

New to the forum so hi to all!. I have just purchased an A7 Black Edition. Very happy and great car, but have a query which I am hoping someone on here can help with.

The car came with the technology package which has the mobile prep high and audi connect. However my car does not have a sim card slot in the dash which I assumed it would given the technology package etc.

Can anyone tell me if that is correct or could this be a mistake on the spec?

Thanks

Jonathan

AFAIK all connect cars have a SIM slot, mine does but it's a 2011 model, but all others I have seen since have one.

You don't need a SIM for connect though, if your phone supports rSAP or SIM access profile then it's all done through the phone.

One way to tell if you have connect, does your mapping have a google view?

Thanks for the reply. Can't see that function either. Think a call to Audi is in order tomorrow...

Welcome to the site Jonathan.

Uh oh, lets hope they havnt missed that of.

Looks like it is a 2013 MY Tech Pack.

Do you have the advanced parking assistance button? In 2014 they deleted the parking assistance and added mobile prep high.

The current brochures at the dealers are all 2014 MY which no longer lists the advanced parking as part of the Technology Pack (separate option now) and includes the mobile prep high.

Only reason I know this is I noticed the slot was missing on the demo I had for a couple of days.....

Hi Silo24 - you are absolutely correct! Audi finally managed to give me an answer (though it took several sales reps to know what it was..) I have a model from 2013, not the latest and as such the technology pack does not have the Prep High.

A little gutted, but I am sure I can live without it! I have come from a BMW and it has all that stuff (except google earth and street view) as standard!

One other question if anyone can help... My car version has a Tiptronic gearbox but the new version as S Tronic. Any major difference between the two? I am not sure why Audi have changed this on the new spec of the Black Edition?

Thanks!

I'm collecting a new a7 black edition late September to replace my current one, so interested it looks like ill be losing my SIM card slot too, but gaining a sunroof and adaptive headlights with high beam assist

I'd rather gain the 3 options than worry about sim slot :)

S-tronic is only on the models with quattro and the more powerful tune (245 not 204). S-tronic actually has gears where as multitronic is just simulated gears, multitronic is a smoother drive suited to cruising where as stronic is more suited for more spirited drives imo.

oops that was me who posted that, seems I have a second audi-sport account that I accidentally logged in with :)

So ensnare & nickl are 1 of the same?

yep! must have signed up with ensnare a reallly long time ago… oops, sorry to hijack the thread, able to merge an account or just delete the ensnare account? Cheers

Audi A7 245 was launched with S Tronic.. For a period due I understand to supply issues early in 2013 many were produced with Tiptronic 8 speed boxes. Have driven many miles in one of these and it's great!

The 245PS TDI only used to be the tiptronic (8 speed single clutch automatic) as the earlier versions of the DSG hadn't been sufficiently tested with the extra torque you got from the TDI 245PS, but more recently it looks like they've started offering those with the S Tronic (7 speed DSG dual clutch system)... which is the same system that is used in the 204PS TDI and the 310PS TFSI petrol (it has similar torque figures to the 204PS TDI, but just another 3000 rpm to play with).

Multitronic have only ever been offered on FWD cars and usually on the lower torque versions: the max has previously been the 2.5TDI and more recently the fwd version of the detuned 204PS 3.0TDI... those gearboxes are a technical masterstroke, but have historically struggled with high levels of torque and I know of at least one person (my neighbour) who has had a whole world of trouble with the multitronic eating up clutches (or some part of the gearbox innards) on his 3.0TDI....

On the SIM card question: just get a phone that supports rSAP (most of the Samsung Galaxy range) and you'll be fine - iPhones and Windows phones only support hands free (no data) and the rest of the Android range is patchy at best... personally I've ditched my Nexus4 and HTC One in favour of an old Galaxy S2 as the traffic updates and live data are fantastic!

Not sure what's going on Mr Stormer.

Early 245 were S Tronic.

Changed to 8 peed Tiptronic early 2013 (mine a BE reg 1 March was 8 speed Tip)

Then a revert back to S Tronic.

Had S tronic in a 245 A5 (2011) and no issues at all.

I was happy with Tip which I think is the S7/RS7 fitment. Car now sold.

No one knows why?

There was some speculation that this was down to supply issues of the S-Tronic box.

Makes some sense....
