Hey guys!

After owning a selection of VAG cars over the years I thought I would try my hand at an Audi, as i'd always wanted one. So after a bit of searching I found a ridiculously cheap TDI Avant C5 with tatty bodywork and a not-so-mint interior. After VAGcomming the car when viewing though everything seems good and the engine pulls like a train - so money was handed over and I bought the car back with me.

Firstly, here's some pics of my previous cars:

And then lastly my previous car - a Bora which ended up being a silly low Golf fronted 'Gora' -

As I bought it:

When i'd finished:

But anyway!

So the Audi...

Shes a bit of a state at the moment but the engine is good and all suspension/bushes etc are solid. Have started doing little bits and bobs but now im back from my holidays the real fun can start.

Had it remapped by a friend whos very well known in the VW scene for his mapping. Its now pushing out 185bhp and revs like the petrol equivalent.

Apart from that so far, CD player, wiper blades, number plate surrounds. Not much happening but as said I'm ready to get going now!

Finally a pic of me towing my mates RWD Scooby with 430bhp. We've just finished building it and its a bit of an animal.

Cheers! Hello everyone by the way!

Matt

Welcome to the house of pain!

Welcome ! Who's that sh*t hot mapper of yours ? general consensus is the stock gt1749va won't push 185bhp unless for a few secnds after the shaft breaks and engine is runing on it's own oil off the limiter !

He's a good friend. I have a decat too! He's a mk4 tuner, mainly diesel. The pd130 engine is his favourite. He's very good at what he does and owns what was originally a pd130 bora which now pushes out 270 odd bhp and a shed load of torque. :)

i changed the wipers today. Most confusing wiper change I've ever done, never come across that style of mount before. All sorted now though.

Im desperately trying to find an LY5K brilliant blue avant breaking to no avail. Anyone got any tips where to look apart from the usual eBay/breakers website etc?

PD130 has been done loads of time and the recipe for 270Bhp is rather simple: firad or bosio 1083 +80% flow, front mounted intercooler, GTB2260vk and a Darkside manifold, forged rods and ARP head bolts ! Add a Sachs Race engineering clutch and then you left working with the map ! I wish he started with more difficult platform, you can inject up to 90mg/stroke on the old EDC15 ECU !
However, the va turbo you have won't push 185 brake without loads of smoke and a big spike !

Fantastic news, someone who knows what they are talking about and who may be able to offer me help :)

I am already looking at the Darkside manifold. What are my options for an exhaust system? And what would be most beneficial? I already have a decat, am currently looking into system options from catback and am struggling to find anything really aftermarket that will fit the a6 pd130 platform.

Regarding the injectors I've also been recommended the Bosio 1083 nozzles. Will look more into this once I have sorted the bodywork and sorted out the wheels/suspension.

Would an EGR delete be beneficial? Are they any differences between this pd130 engine and the one used on the vw mk4 platform? If not that should open up a range of options and choices I already know a little bit about.

On another note, really enjoying this car. Its by far the most comfortable thing i've ever owned. Now I just need to fix it up and make it go a bit faster.

Thanks for your help adamss24!

I would not bother much with the Darkside tubular manifold unless you have loads of money and you're thinking to go for one of the modern turbo from GTB series ! I would look for a BV43 turbocharger, is plug and play on longitudinal engines and it's quite nice balance spools nice and tops at 210-220 Bhp depending on the map. Bosio nozzles are rare to get by, everyone in the trade can get Firads or DSS Ultime nozzles, they are larger but require professional setting + the voltage map in the ECU needs tweaking a lot !
Allard EGR delete, a decat pipe, BV43 and a good map will see the old girl past 200 Bhp. I would leave it at that, them a6 are very good motorway cruisers however the rear suspension is rather crude by modern standards and features a "live axle" ! The better of the bunch are quattro models, unfortunately they never offered the a6 with 1.9 tdi and quattro in Uk ! If you're looking for a similar platform then the passat 1.9Tdi quattro is the same as the a6 underneath but that came in quattro and 1.9Tdi flavours.

Cheers mate.

When looking into the nozzles I was looking at importing the Bosios as I wasn't too aware of the other options.

I am not looking for huge power as I will be using the car daily and need it to be reliable. A new clutch and flywheel will become a consideration the more I move towards the 200bhp figure.

Ironically I was looking at BV43s this morning as a potential option. They seem quite easy to get hold of and have some positive reviews.

Regarding an EGR delete - that is something I am looking at purchasing today. Where will I find the best option (value for money)? If not I may just fabricate one myself as I can use the machining tools at work.

Thank you so much for your help! :friends:

So did a few bits this weekend.

Bought a cambelt kit, having it fitted with a new waterpump in a couple of weeks when my mate has some time.

Bought a second hand rear boot/bumper from a prefacelift model. Much better condition than mine so fitted it up.

Had to cut an exhaust recess into the prefacelift as it didnt have one. Used a dremmel and file, has turned out really well

Bought some legal pressed plates and fitted them up too

Just need to debadge it as mine is a 1.9tdi and not a 2.5 :)

Also did the coilovers and x5 tiger claw wheels on my mates a6. Got the adapters through on Friday so fitted them all up. Looks awesome!

Lifted from UKMKIVs forum:

Sooo,
A couple of updates as it's been a while. Been doing 1000 miles a week with work, the car has been incredible. Ultimate motorway cruiser.
Got the cambelt done by Moose
Transported a mattress hilariously

As you can see in that picture I have a large offside rear quarter dent. Got at my man Kirk (loso) who sorted it out for me yesterday. Turns out it was much bigger than expected. He did an incredible job though, and I highly recommend him.

Turns out the dent went much further back than I realised.

He then put some paint on it and polished it up for me. Will get some pics later after I clean the filler dust off the rest of the car.
Regarding wheels and suspension, they are incoming but im still debating whether to coilover or bag it. Wheels, I am looking at 19's. Got a few options but they are quite different so i'll be keeping them under my hat.

Looks a decent job ! I would just stick a set of Eibach springs on it if the shocks are fine...

Yeah they won't lower it enough for me. haha

Going for coilovers as it's going to be really quite low. I know its not sensible but I just can't stop doing it

Eibach springs are the best in the business and by fitting cheap coilovers you trading good looks over good handling ! Each to their own i suppose !

Yeah however i'm not going to get cheap items.

If I do it I will do it right. I've had enough issues with cheap coilovers on previous cars. Been looking at 19's everyday for the past month. Leaning towards Merc wheels - got a few options but will have to wait and see.

Need more money!

Thanks man!

I've also developed a clicking whilst turning right (cv boot probably) and a knocking noise from the front left. I think its either a droplink or a top mount. As i'm not overly familiar with Audis - does anyone know of any items that usually need replacing? Audi specific? For instance on the mk4 golfs droplinks were a weak point. Any assistance would be great. In reality I need to just jack it up and look but as I do mechanics a lot i'm incredibly lazy when it comes to my own car haha.

Thanks

Lots of updates on this. New driveshaft (osf) and new control arms x8 and track rod ends

Also new wheels on

suspension this weekend..

pics to follow! :)

Pic of wheels. Coilovers ordered too...

First run out of new wheels to Santa Pod for GTI fest. Loads of tyre noise and its accentuated the bush noise i'm getting from the front left. When i've done all the bushes and suspension next weekend i'll get her tracked and aligned and see how we are doing.

Also did this!

Drives so much better. Fronts a bit too low but I love it. Bumper edges catch everywhere haha.

Thanks myth!

Just fitted an HID kit aswell as my headlights were terrible. Went for 6k as I hate blue lights, 6k being the whitest strong light kit available (in my opinion). Simple plug and play fit, and has made the world of difference. Very impressed.

Service done, thermostat done, cream leathers fitted, black doorcards/carpets and roof lining purchased.

Couple of people have messeged me about the HID kit, which I will do a write up for this weekend.

Currently building up my mates quattro donor shell. Removing the engine and dropping in an uprated s4 lump. Should see a reliable 400bhp when its finished next week. More pictures to come!

Cream leather ftw! Get some Gliptone on there though!!

I've fitted many HID kits, but the A6 with that silly little clip things is the fiddliest I've ever done!

Yeah its really not that hard, the main issue is where to mount the ballased(sp).

Had my MOT at the weekend. Few issues with finding somewhere with a flat ramp as mine won't go on a normal ramp (too low).

My mate pulled through and did the MOT for me.

Passed ok, couple of advisories. Stretched tyres and lowered suspension (fine) - minor oil leak (nothing really for the mileage though) and needs a new indicator on the nearside which I have sorted.

Went a lot better than I thought it would! :)

After a discussion with one of my diesel tuning mates last night - I am looking at the following

Power aim:

200-250bhp

Items:

Charge cooler/van intercooler
Bora/Golf MK4 PD150 injectors
3.0tdi turbo
Decat

Various other bits and ideas. Still unsure on the turbo.

I've been terrible at updating this..

Car has had quite a bit done to it recently, which will continue with it going to the bodyshop tomorrow evening for a few days. Pics of parts:

Picked up these 2 wings second hand in good condition (straight and true, no rust unlike mine) which are going to be painted the right colour and fitted. It will also be having a few other bits done whilst its in there.

When it is out the bodyshop it is going straight into another friends unit for a full exhaust system next weekend.

I will be updating more regularly with pics during the week! :blackrs4:

Strong work! Any news on the tuning? Id be keen to see how the Q7 3.0tdi turbo pairs up on a pd130 setup.

I will let you know! I have recently been sorting some aesthetic stuff and other bits and bobs...

Anyway, heres what i've been upto!

Had some paintwork done...

Did a dash conversion (taken from a quattro)

Had the rest of the car machine polished by one of my good friends

New clutch/flywheel/master cylinder

A picture from a site I worked on

And finally new wheels and tyres. Mercedes limited edition wheels - 19x8.5 front and 19x9.5 rear. 215/35/19 front tyres and 225/35/19 rear tyres. 20mm spacers front and back....

I've also had a full exhaust system fitted and done various other bits. I will update with some better photos soon, for now i'm off to the Nurburgring with my friends!

Looking good.. but i liked the old rims better then the mercedes ones...

looking forward on seeing more pics

In the pic of your mate cutting it where it looks like its black on black with the 3SDM's it just looks soooo awesome doesn't get any better IMO! Well done on this keep it up

Ben - coilovers are good. Had no issues at all! I run them quite low though which obviously allows for less travel/issues. A6's are very easy to get low without many issues. Only issue for mine being a TDI is the sump sits quite low, however i'm having a plate made up to stop me smashing it...

Christophe - Thanks man! :beerchug:

So I Just returned from the Nurburgring....

Absolutely the experience of a lifetime. Me and 9 of my best friends took our cars over to Germany with barely any issues. I did, however, realise that one of the wheels I have bought is buckled and was therefore losing air. Drove home with 2 standard wheels on the front! (If anyone knows of any of these wheels going for sale please let me know!)

A few pics....

Of course - firstly the obligatory track photos :) I managed a 10:20 which considering the weight and understeer wasn't too bad! Most of my friends managed sub 10 minutes, one even a sub 9 (track Honda S2000)

Here are a few other pics of the journey. If you ever consider driving to the Nurburgring I highly recommend you do it. The journey there was incredible let alone the quality of cars and the track!

bullbear you scallywag, I didn’t' realise how much work you've done to your Audi. seeing your car regularly you don't really notice the slow transformation but seeing it at the start and end on here is crazy.

I know this car and can recommend someone quickly grabs it as it's a bit of a gem! Anyone who knows bullawayo knows that he spends far too much time rubbing and caressing his cars ;)
