Free map update service

I've just got an email reply from my salesman and he says "you can register via the Audi UK website. I have just used the search function and it came up."

Well I just did as he suggested and it didn't. However I logged back into MyAudi and it appeared??? So I'm all good (albeit with a rather confused salesman)..

Mine also now showing again in myAudi - and it all looks a bit different, as if there has been a website update. I wander if Audi made some changes and it disappeared temporarily )

New 2014 Map available to download as well!

Yeh, it changed when it disappeared, wonder if it's changed again!

My salesman told me that it's 5 updates whenever I want - ie, it'll last 5 years if I take them yearly, 2 1/2 if I take them six-monthly. I'm not sure I believe him though.

Has any one updated their sat navs yet? If so I'd be interested in knowing exactly how it's done. Same with adding the camera database.

Regards Steve

Not yet. I tried downloading it as a trial, 16GB. You have to use a java downloader for some reason (strange), but I assume you just put it on an SD card, stick it in the MMI and use the software update functionality in the MMI to load it. POIs can be added online - not sure if that includes putting them as an icon on the map though, or warnings when you approach them, that would be useful.

cemerson, was your download successful? I've downloaded the full 16GB package twice and only end up with 4.29GB in the destination. One of the folders has an alphabetical list of countries which only goes up to France. I daren't install it in the car.

Be interesting to see what maps they use exactly, and if they check the VIN when installing ;)

I haven't actually tried yet - I was just seeing what it was about and cancelled the download to do when I have a bit more time. Doesn't sound good though.

Thanks cemerson. Have any of you downloaded the file successfully? I'd be really interested to see if anyone gets different results.

Dear All. Will Audi update your Sat Nav automatically each year when it goes into service, as all this seems a little complex for a pensioner to sort out!!

Will they? I was told they would for a fee only...

I have downloaded the whole 16.7gb. The maps are dated 24th july 2013 (version 2014). From what i have seen in the release notes, most of the updates are for the eastern Europe. I haven't seen any changes to the UK. Will post the whole release notes later today as they are on my computer at home.

So what stops people sharing these updates (apart from the law *cough*) - not that I would advocate such a thing of course ;)

No idea. When you register on the myAudi site you have to put in your VIN, so it's possible they could include that in the download to be checked by the car.

standard sat nav definitely doesn't allow free updates via my audi

It's for tech pack and above. Information is right in the first post of this thread.

I've got the Tech Pack but not Connect. I don't get offered any updates when I sign into My Audi, so I think this is only available to those with Connect :(

Well then those who contribute to this thread should put in their sig exactly what sat nav system they've got otherwise it becomes confusing as to which version works and which doesn't.

Same for me, build week 8 if it makes any difference

So you havent bothered to read the first post? It says "FROM BUILD WEEK 22 2013 AND ONWARDS". BW8 -> no free updates.

The Audi PR blurb clearly says tech pack AND tech pack with connect, so something wrong there I think.

Edit: Above post clears it up!

so what? my coworker has an A3 8V with standard sat nav, I checked and he doesn't have updates ...

then perhaps it might have been better to have pointed that out in the first place. Then we wouldn't get into this pickle...

I sent an e-mail to Audi enquiring about updates and they state the following:-

Thank you for your recent email regarding navigation updates for your Audi A3.

Having discussed your query with our Parts Team, I can confirm that you can upgrade to the latest generation of maps on the MMI
3G HDD, for 219.00 gbp. The new, detailed maps cover most European countries and include more than 1.5 million points of
interest and 130 3D city models.

The maps are updated on a yearly basis, during quarter one. If you are interested in having these updates carried out to your
vehicle, I would recommend speaking with your local Audi Centre, who will be able to advise on the costs for both updates and
labour. Your local Audi Centre can be found by visiting Home.

Has anyone applied the update from online yet? Are there any UK updates?

Can't you just do this yourself through myAudi? I can't see any cost required for this either...?

£219 just to update the map is very, very poor IMHO. That sort of thing makes me less inclined to get my car upgraded to activate the sat-nav.

It's pretty standard for car manufacturers unfortunately. It is mad though, especially with the free sat navs on phones these days.

I have visited myAudi, but cannot find any link to download Techpack upgrades, bit of a duffer I am afraid!

It's just called the Map Update Service or something. You have to register first, but I can see it there - just logged in and checked.

I am looking at buying a new Audi with the PNQ Technology Pack and a dealer has told me the following conflicting information:
this is for A3 ONLY with SD Card
Shame but can't change it!

You apply the updates via SD card, but the service is available for the tech pack and above.
