2013 Audi S3

Here's the best pic of the estoril I have. Git to be a SB with rails IMO.

Or a Duck!!

I have driven many thousands of miles in recent years with MODERN DSG/STronic and Tiptronic boxes and can assure you the comparison with an f1 driver is minimal.

The S3 (HB or SB ) is a highly sporty and responsive hot hatch.. for my 2p such cars suit manual gearboxes best ... hasn't this been discussed before..

its a hatchback, not a sports car chum. Usually a device for daily driving. If you want the ultimate driving experience, why not buy a caterham ? Even the new GT3 only comes with PDK... Go figure.....
and regarding responsiveness, I think you've missed the mark. Great car generally, but a steering column made from wood and a cruise liner quantity of under steer do not equal responsiveness, lol !

Just saw a review where the bloke got the car up to 270kph (167mph) and he said the car was still pulling at that point. 170+ is very very impressive!

I know folks will defend their choices.

It isn't a sports car agreed but a Hot Hatch. I made my decision based on extensive experience driving both Auto and Manual in modern Audis.. As Audis go the S3 is responsive.. not a Caterham agreed and I do have a toy in the garage too!...

I have for the first time ever bought a hatchback with more than 3 doors as such. The SB looks better and we need rails having ran standard roof rails on al our cars for the last thousand years.
its the only car I've ever seen that looks better with 5 doors and rails than a 3 door.. In our opinion of course.
interestingly, the 5 outsells the 3 6 to 1 on the continent or near enough !

Haha I figured it was quite obvious that I wasn't genuinely comparing a £35k road going hatchback to a £1.1m state of the art race car!

This doesn't surprise me give the expensive nature of the car.

3 door cars I would argue are targeted at younger generations, most of which can't afford a car of this price anyway.

The Sportback is a good family car and it's just a fact that buyers from this segment tend to be older and have a greater disposable incomes, as such I'd always say that the Sportback was going to sell better.

3 door for me. Though I have to say that I like the sportback. Most 5 door hatches look like an afterthought to me, ie they were designed as a 3 door then adapted but the sportback looks awesome. I just prefer a 3 door hatch and I have no kids etc. I like the fact it is going to a bit more rare.

Hi Paul i think we ALL knew what you meant, almost convinced Pilot intentionally sets out to wind people up.

others in the garage he says, sure we are all impressed (as intended) Lets hope it's a porsche or something other than another audi, as they may have a forum too.

Flappy paddles are a fun alternative and can be quite engaging with the various driving modes and especially with the mag ride I find it offers a number of driving styles. For me it also has the massive benefits of relaxed driving in the city traffic.

Honestly, a meguiars g220 polisher is worth it's weight.

I had a 30min session with a detailed friend and that's given me skills for life. I can make a video explaining the process if you like - our metallic black mk5 gti needs a good session soon.

Thanks appreciate it, if it's not too much bother i could do with a video explanation. Anyhow, i washed and polished the car and it does look better already i must say. I was told it might be the protective wax they use at the factory that might still have been on the car, even after the dealer had done their detailing massacre of a job. This could have given the impression of swirling... Not too sure how much i believe that.

Nothing unique in having Porsches in the garage !
Stronic, PDK, all getting a hold on the market.
was in a friends competition pack m3 e92 today and it's changes are better than my porsche PDK.
he is a manual fan but concedes that dual clutch transmissions are here to stay and have their place. He also drives a ford escort rs2000 pristine and a track day e30 m3 his all time favourite car.
in addition, these auto boxes are only going to get better.... Fantastic :)

3500 mile in and just realised that the centre arm rest slides forward which is really comfortable! Thanks to my daughter who found out by putting her feet up on it from in the back - THANKS FOR DISCOVERING THAT BUT NOW PUT YOUR FEET DOWN!!!!!!

Oh, finally tried launch mode. That's fun. I was reluctant at first out of respect for my new car but curiosity got the better of me. The initial pull away sinks your stomach which feels good from the drivers position and I'm sure quite sickening as a passenger. I would recommend giving it a go, perhaps not at the traffic lights as you may look a little stupid after you've selected dynamic, disabled stability, left foot on brake, right on accelerator etc and the car next to you had already gone ha ha.

Think a few of us on here would be truly grateful if you made a video Itguy. Perhaps when you do your GTI you would be kind enough to show and explain your skill involved?

no problemo. If I get time I'll do a panel on the golf next weekend and video it.

I bet the owner of the Golf R next to you left the car park either silent or chuntering under his breath for no longer having the fastest VAG. 2.0T.

Admittedly I could have parked anywhere, but I was a little too childish to resist...

The manual one I drove in September certainly did. May be more dependent on driver skill than technology bit like f1 maybe???

I'm not entirely sure but the reviews I've read indicate that the whomph is an s tronic only feature.

yep, the exhaust is a copy of yamahas exup valve only available on stronic. Keeps back pressure on the exhaust manifold and assists acceleration, hence the auto is quicker than the manual ...

Misano red - best colour imo, the colour I went for
Estoril blue - too dark and suited to bigger cars
Glacier white - looks nice with pano roof, privacy glass and all black surround option
Panther black - too dark and suited to bigger cars
Metallic grey - dull as dishwater

Dealer had a A3 saloon in misano red, didn't see the difference between that and the solid red!

Brilliant red looks flat, whereas the misano reacts to light, preferably natural light and most noticeable in summer

I thought I had done that with my PP comments!!

Whatever IMHO Phantom is the best colour... Truly black no brown tinges etc.

We all have views, we all will try and justify them even when clearly some have bizarre tastes... Whatever we all are S 3 enthusiasts

lol not my intention and merely my opinion as ive seen all the colours on a S3. Im sure others will have differing opinions as red isn't for the faint hearted and those that don't want to stand out too much

I think most will agree the yellow is hideous:puke2:
