Audi A7 3.0 245 TDI Remap

Hi,

I'm picking up my Audi A7 this Wednesday having been away from Audi's for a few years I'm trying not to go too mad (only wheels and tints so far) as I did with my old Audi A4.

However, I made the mistake of test driving the A6 bi-tdi before hand and it was epically quick, that's not to say that the A7 isn't but...

Does anyone have any experience of remapping the Audi A7 as in what it feels like from the drivers seat? Is it worth it?

ive just sold my q7 245ps which is being replaced with a bitdi black edition A7 on the 1st of march..

I think we actually spoke about 5 years ago if memory serves correct, not to do with Audi but a Volvo S40 I had!

Good buy, I couldn't justify the slightly bigger leap to the bi-tdi as we managed to get £8k dealer contribution to the one I've just brought to get it off their forecourt so there's a point where you finish bartering and run!

Word of advice if it helps, the Black Edition comes with 21" so avoid the Yoko tyres and go with Continentals as the ride is significantly improved.

I'll have a look at what Dan's verdict is.

I was in the same position, I'd popped in and they needed to shift a car so received a massive discount and over allowance for the Q7

I've always liked the A7s so can't wait for Friday

I think had I turned up with an Audi I may had got a better offer, turning up in a BMW for a trade in was always going to be comical. As it happens the best offer I got was 4k below the trade price but Audi advised me to return my car to BMW under the Credit Act meaning £200 of 'depreciation' in total so can't say fairer than that!

I'm trying to find a matrix for your product that tells me two things, one is the bhp/torque against the various pin settings - as I'm still not 100% clear just from the RR graphs how it comes together - but which also has a comment in terms of what you might expect from the drivers seat. It strikes me that with all the feedback you have, you could create a good reference point.

We dont have any power outputs per individual setting.

Weve had a couple of 3.0 240ps cars dyno'd at 287-290bhp running common rail only.

I did plan on adding my Q7 to the dyno, but someone sold it before i had chance

I think most tuners are getting 275-290bhp and I'm sure I've seen one of re-chippers getting around 300bhp from the 245PS TDI.

I was really tempted, but the insurance would have killed me: my A6 Avant 3.0TFSI S-Line insurance is over £500 a year less than a 204PS quattro A7 would have been.... and nearly £900 less than the A7 3.0TFSI!

With the little mileage I do, the fuel costs are minimal, it'll still do the same MPG as my old 2.5TDI and I'd rather have the supercharged petrol and an easy 375-400bhp if I ever decide to remap it

out of curiosity how young/old are you? I'm 33 and at present the A7 costs approx £450 full comp, euro travel, hire car, 13 years protect NBC,no points and legal. When I advised them of the dtuk tuning I said it was to help with economy but there are some performance gains, their response was ok that's £50.00 extra.

one other thing that's made a big difference for me is my job title. I was down as an IT Consultant and changing this to IT Manager saved £175.00 in premiums.

I was looking at the DTUK boxes and wondered if anyone had used these and whether they affect your warranty and are effective, also any other mods available for this car that won't void the warranty. Coming from a Q7 there was plenty of extras you could pick up for that.

Any advice appreciated!

Just on top of what you guys have said above, I'm similar and insurance is coming in much higher!

In terms of warranty some Audi dealerships have been quite good in terms of disregarding that they are there, however if you do have a subsequent engine management issue I wouldn't want to rely on them discounting its existence at that point. Best play it safe and always remove it before a service or warranty issue.

On the whole I've been generally happy with the DTUK box, the main gripe is that the impact on the smoothness of 245bhp engine has been very noticeable depending on the air temperature. During the peak of the summer heat I had to return my box to be reprogrammed as the car was stuttering on manual flappy paddles when working through the rev range. To Andrew's credit this was done without fuss and very quickly.

However, as the unit as no external ability to change the mapping program it means I have to remove the unit, take it apart, install it again, test, if not ok, repeat.... to change the program. I am now finding as the colder months have approached that is 9c and below I need to play around again to find the best map to put it on as its now stuttering again. I

accept the limitations of this as the car ECU invariably is reacting to the air temperature and the DTUK box is essentially a "manual" device that needs to be changed to suit, but if DTUK do offer a version that can be modified without having to remove it I would gladly upgrade to that for the convenience alone.

Overall power is all about where you want it. I've tried every single mapping and largely go between map 2 and 3 +1, (this will make sense when you read the install guides) I tried one map which put all the power down in 1st and 2nd which was fun for all of three minutes before you found yourself drinking a lot more fuel and attempting to rear end the car in front when you sneezed. Programs 2 and 3 give a nice broad spread of power 3rd, 4th and 5th being where its felt, that takes some tweaking depending on the weather but you really do notice it when you don't have it installed.

Thanks for that advice there, sounds like something to go for, for sure, best option for me would be to install this when I'm about then pull it out when I'm away with work and the missus is using the car. That way it wouldn't accidentally end up in the workshop in audi via the AA, as my Q7 used to quite regularly, good job that didn't have one of theses boxes. Had a quick look at the install guides and looks simple enough. I have read that somewhere before about the car reacting to ambient temperature supposedly to get the most efficient combustion, think the Q7 used to have some sort of damper in the intake to adjust the charge air quantity.

What tints and wheels did you go for? Have spoken to someone about tints today and was quoted £230 full tint or £170 for just the back, not sure if this is reasonable as I've generally had cars come factory tinted in the past. Had anything else done?

Still waiting to find out if Audi can get a small dink in the passenger side brushed aluminium dash repaired but so far they've drawn a blank, don't know whether I should push for a full replacement part or just tell them to fill it up and let me get it out of there.

Again thanks for the info on the DTUK box. I'll let you know how I get on!
