Rereading the brakes comment makes me sound very pompous and ****ing stupid, not Intended just seen lots of people forget to do them.
Yup I did a pikey build. If you are going to keep the car forever then there is an almost limitless amount of things to change. I did the bare basics of a rod build as that's what suited me at the time, it was done in 30+ degrees on my drive way and I don't recommend that either. Agu pistons drop straight in, and I left the head alone as it was refurbished about 40k ago :)
 
Nah the brake comment is the most apt comment! Most important thing when upping power. My SOS was because i have stock brakes still. Had my engine not gone bang id have done brakes next before power. For now il just have to deal with a near 400hp car and stock brakes lol.

with regards AGU pistons, you will need the pins for those pistons. See my build thread, the stock S3 20mm pins (AMK anyway) arent compatible.

Jesus. 400 on 312mm brakes, I'd be scared to leave the house! I hated mine on 260 but on country lanes your always cooking them and ending up with scary fade. I know what its like though, there's loads of things I've wanted/needed to do and something else has happened and swallowed the cash :( for me I'm happy my main work is done now so apart from some basic maintenance like getting my wipers to work I'm leaving the old girl alone!!

It's ****** awesome is what it is! One of the things I really like about being at bills is seeing first hand the evolution of your car and engine and all the other mental cars and projects there. Your whole engine is looking sweet, normally I'd be a bit jealous but now I'm so stoked with mine I'm not so bothered! When's it due for finishing?

So this is the bare minimum that needs doing for changing rods?
Are my apy pistons ok to re use if i was looking for around 340bhp
Also would i need to change the rings or is this something i won't know till iv seen the pistons and bores?

A set of goetze rings cost 50 so if I was going to the effort of putting in rods I would always do them. Nothing wrong with apy pistons, they've probably done ok so far but agu raises the compression ratio which is good, I picked mine up for 20 delivered so well worth it. Iirc I think 20mm rods are cheaper than 19mm but happy to be corrected. I did what I did and wouldn't advise it as a benchmark, there are many more complete builds out there but it worked for me!

How long is a piece of string!!... finding the time is the issue tbh... Bill's backed up with work so I try and help him get on top of it where I can... waiting on the exhaust manifold build but hopefully thats going to be moving soon... engines built (as you saw) and ready to go... few other bits of course but should be back on track soon enough...

Still 20mm Pin. For the price of the higher compression pistons, they're definitely worth having, but it means honing the bores and rings, so it all comes down to budget.

Having a hybrid, you wont suffer as badly offboost as some of the big turbo builds so you'd live without the pistons
 
If i was planning on honing my bores would it be worth me getting agu pistons then?
 
example of bringing in the boost harder sooner, killing off torque sooner too.... reverted to the previous iteration of the map as it seemed happier with that

I sorted a wee leak this afternoon and took it out for a proper good thrash and ****** hell its quick! I'll try and get a little video up at some point to show how quickly it gets you from zero to hair on fire, I'm very very impressed :) I know there's plenty of quicker cars out there but the wonderfully aggressive way it puts the power down just leaves me grinning like an idiot and almost a little nervous. Thanks again Bill for the work :)
 
Seeing it glowing scares me, I don't have quite enough faith in its longevity to celebrate it glowing, I'd prefer to think it doesn't happen. ...

So the best way to hold power with these turbo's is to progressivley bring it in till 4000rpm then bang give it all it has.

its identical to yours, but has the 1st BBT k04 turbine housing, and an 11blade gtx style compressor but like yours stock 42/56mm compressor..

I want a good entry level hybrid, I knew the turbine was fit for it but compressor needed some more R&D , yours just went a little better than planned! So just need to see if this "supposed" better design is actually better...

I be following Gops progress closely, never know, this one might just make silly figures at this rate. I did say last week that mine just wanted to run and run even on actuator :) All about the flow (tm) lol
 
Am I right in understanding that you have an uprated turbine but stock sized compressor wheel. Hmm that sounds back to front. Good Luck, i'm sure Bill will get the most out of it regardless.
darn it, I hate being wrong LOL. Superb results and a credit to BBT and the mapping maestro Bill. Out of curiosity how many pounds of flow is the billet wheel rated at. I'm shocked at how restrictive the stock turbine is and how much efficiency is being lost through the turbine bottle neck. It does however question the validity of fitting the larger compressor wheels on the full blown versions.

the spec of my car will be pretty similar to yours.. Although my head will be ported and valve train is uprated.. And it'll be on agu pistons! I can't wait ;)

Haha it'll be interesting to see what difference a ported head makes, mines just bog standard small port that had a refurb about 40k ago. I wanted to build a sexy new head but I went snowboarding instead ;) Mines on agu pistons too..
 
I'm surprised at how much meat is left on your compressor inlet considering its been milled for a larger wheel.

it isn't a larger wheel though Willy, that's the whole thing here.

it's a totally stock sized billet wheel with a different blade design, but actual size, inducer and exducer, remain stock

I'm failing to keep up with BBT. I didn't realise there were two versions of the billet K04 wheel. You have to make exceptions for me i'm a seat man after all.

Original 2275 is rated at 18lbs at 74% at 1.8 pr ..At 246 grams , assumed 24lbs it's running 72% at 2.3pr. It is the limit though! Compressor map stops at 25lbs..
 
^ I can't even pretend to understand that! All I know is it works very well. I guess that with tfsi based cars getting cheaper a lot of focus will be moving on to them but it's nice to know there's so many new options and ideas ahead for our older cars with yourself and Bill trying new things, exciting times!

be as many version as I can think of! 4/6/8/10/11 blade configurations are all possible. The 2283 7+7 that I'm using now was designed so the dreaded surge was eliminated. Once we've tested Gops version a decision will be made on which we run.. But as we are at the flow limit of the physical size of the compressor I think all gops might do is be more effecient or not ie flow the same but be in a better or worse % effeciency which will reduce or increase the charge temps which may aid timing .

One me thing is for sure a nice set of 630cc will go well with these
 
or in Russ's case an actual set of 550's in there as his are max'd out after 5krpm..

maybe consider a 4bar fpr after all russ on thinking about it, and just wind back on unisettings..
 
Ok I'll look into that, unisettings worries me a little but sure I can get my head around it. Is that to reduce the idc % of the '550's'?
