2013 Audi S3

I'm seriously considering purchasing these alloys, quite hypocritical of me given my recent talk of keeping everything standard on S and RS models, but i just keep going back and looking at them!

I have also got the luxury of seeing exactly what they would look like on mine given this is a Glacier S3!

The photo's are the 19" version, which i would probably go for as i can't see the ride being changed THAT much by them, only minimal i'm sure?

What's your opinion fellas?

they sure look nice - I reckon theyd look even better on a black car

I literally had a nightmare last night that I went to go and pick up my car but they'd painted it green instead of black & all audi offered me was a refund on my paint costs! Woke up in cold sweats! Haha.

crikey you have some weird nightmares - mine usually consist of dying whilst trying to save the world, just dying or forgetting a vat or tax return (last 2 are same as dying in HMRC muppet employees eyes)

How much will the comfort of the ride be affected by going from an 18" alloy to 19"?

The S3 is already a very smooth comfortable ride so i can't see it being too bad or unable to live with..

They don't do it for me but at the end of the day it's personal taste.

without a shadow of doubt, the sportback being that slightly bigger needs that slightly bigger wheel and if Golf R's/S3 saloons come with a 19" option then so can the sportback IMO...though we have to create that option ourselves! Do it. I am.

Fair play!

I just like how it has also got the mixture of grey and silver like the standard S3 alloys, and it makes the car look more aggressive..

What rims are you going for?

I don't personally like them and I'm sure there's better looking alloys out there for the price there gonna cost. It deffo needs a drop with 19's on though.

I think the standard alloys look good tbh and again will look better lowered.

Agree on dropping for the standard alloys

I do like my standard ones, they are definitely the most interesting S3 wheel so far, shame they never had the 19" option though!

The big draw for me was that most people (mainly staff) won't have a clue how much the car is. If I rocked up to work in a Porsche word would quickly spread and they'd all be wanting a pay rise!

very true. ive had the clueless brigade tell I could get a 3 year old Nissan gtr, 5 year old audi r8, an 600 year old lambo or Ferrari or porsche 911, etc but they all forget running costs - Id probably have to pray every time most of those went into a garage

cars are getting more and more complex that getting a car without a warranty is almost too risky - only a few years ago I wouldn't ever consider buying a new cars as it was a waste of money - I used only buy cars at 1-2 years old - now its the sensible option if you can afford it -

Also, I have a 15 year old fiesta and I can mend almost anything on it because its so simple but even parts from the rip off main dealer are still not cheap - eg a indicator relay is a crazy £130 - ebay is a friendlier £10,lol but then its a dead easy fix with a normal Philips screwdrivers - remember those days - nowadays you need to be a mechanic, computer genius and probably Einstein to change anything on a car like an audi

I am of the opinion that Black is the best and timeless most practical option for hot Audis...

Wheels look good but they are not what Audi recommend .. We are buying a brand, a style, an image etc... Why ****** it about with pretend 'improvements' ....?

why? wont it be sat in dealers for 2-3 mths

because I don't want any trace of 2013 on my car and a 63 plate would remind me of 2013.

2013 has been a horrific year for me and my wife for many reasons.

Serious car crash where a Volvo xc60 plowed into the back of our fiesta and wrote it off (it was an 11 plate), causing my wife massive inconvenience as she's a driving instructor and both of us a lot of pain. Accident happend the day before our 10th wedding anniversary dinner.

It was our 10th wedding anniversary and we had a nice 2 week euro road trip to Rome via lots of places booked. Bought a Z4 for the trip too. Got cellulitis 3 times before going so went drugged up. Got pneumonia, sepsis and myocarditis whist away and had to turn around in Florence and drive home (well, my wife drove for 2 days straight with me being very ill in the passenger seat). Went to a&e and was rushed into majors, resus etc. Wife found out I had sepsis and then googled it. I was totally out of it and she was in bits, obviously.

Had to have 3 months off work because of it, but it's an episode that was very taxing.

Then had Vasculitis episode in my leg, another a&e trip and weeks off work.

Then found out that due to the medication I'm on for my rhumatoid arthritis and now the Vasculitis my wife and I can't try for children, even if we wanted to as the risks are too high, because of me.

My wife has now given up being a driving instructor as she is still getting flashbacks from the accident (she saw it coming in the mirror). Thankfully she was (and is) a part time planning officer so that's ok, but the closing of chapter nonetheless.

Therefore we just want to forget 2013 and move on.

On the plus side, the deposit on the S3 is being funded by my whiplash compensation.

It indicates the current cruise control / adaptive cruise control speed

wow serious bad luck, I know how you feel as in 2011 3 close members of my family were diagnosed with cancer and another was hospitalised with some bug - 2012 was better - roll on 2014 for you - the thing that drives me is to work and play hard but also to know that unfortunately there are people who are worse off but they keep going and so should you

wow, you have had some serious bad luck! I feel for you.

I wonder what the actual figures are for the 3 door s tronic. I've heard from multiple knowledgeable sources that Audis figures are normally conservative. Just my thinking but I reckon with a stated 0-60 time of 4.8 it might actually be closer to 4.6/5?

no manufacturer figure is realistic - although you have more of a chance with the stronic/auto - my heavily modded pug 205 1.9 gti was tested using accurate equipment at 5.72secs to 60mph and I wouldn't surprised if the s3 real world 0-60 is about the same

still debating whether to stick with the manual or go lazy with stronic - I think id miss the involvement

unfortunately, manual is dying...... Residual on auto is higher and it's actuAlly rather good fun on the paddles.... Assume you have demod the auto ?

It's really a personal choice I suppose. I have driven both and although the manual is nice for the 1% of the driving time I'm just going for a drive! the rest of the 99% is spent rushing between meetings! chugging through town and sitting in traffic or on the motorway where it's just a lot easier to let the car do the work.

Ordered a new 3dr S3 5 weeks ago, week for for build.

Went for,

S-tronic
Glacier white
Black styling pack
Tech pack
Comfort pack
Front and rear parking sensors
Reversing camera
Super sports seats
Privacy glass
Advanced key
B&O sound system
Cruise control

Contemplating adding on the LED lights and interior lights, heard a lot of good things about them? Any thoughts if its worth the extra cost?

I had that dilemma but ive seen pics of the interior lights and thy look worth the £170 and theyd cost a lot more in time and money to retro fit - and even then you couldn't do a full retro fit

led lights aren't cheap but I went for them in the end - new tech and supposedly a lot better than xenon and halogen and should last life of the cost or so they say - plus they are an eye watering £2K option on standard a3's

I added the interior lights and then the led lights

wise move - yhe LEDs would make the car mor saleable in the future over Xenon if that's a concern.

As a few sportbacks are arriving now - Any updates on the Footrest - I know it's been mentioned from time to time and not a massive thing but I'm a firm believer that if it's in the brochure that's what you should get

Does seem to be left hand drives that have it

Just wondering

LHD only. All RHD have plastic. The broucher is wrong :(

This is quite an interesting reply from my contact at Audi regarding my being being at the port but not loaded onto a ship yet.
Danners, another member on this forum had the same build week as me (45) but his car managed to sneak onto an early ship.

Hi Paul

Thanks for your email; your car never missed the boat, Dan’s car just managed to make it on to a slightly earlier one. Your car was released for shipping on the 13/11/13 and they have 14 days to get it into the UK from that point, from then it takes a week for the car to brought into UK stock and brought up to us. Once here we fully check the car over, perform a Pre Delivery Inspection and get the car ready for you.

The boats leave all the time, it could get into the UK tomorrow.

Our forecast for early-mid December still stands, you will not be waiting any longer than this.

Some quite interesting information to know.

That's poor in my opinion - It's not like the brochures aren't updated regularly - We've had a May, July and Oct so far and I'm sure December/January is on it's way

Finally got to test drive an S-Tronic S3 this morning - WHAT A CAR. Virtually my spec too - misano, parade red pack, C0Z alloys etc, absolutely love the interior. Tried and failed to get good pics because of bright sunshine, but massively impressed with the gearbox, acceleration and also the comfort of both motorway and A road driving. Also plenty of space in the back for 6 footers - a really great all rounder from what I could tell. Roll on April!

Mate it's a great car and I love your enthusiasm. But the above may be a slight misdescription!
:)

Yeh, you could be right! Some of us are just born lucky though! Here is a pic the dealer has just taken and emailed over, even has the alyrails which ive ordered. My Q5 felt like a slug when I left, gutted!

Unfortunately I think you are right. Which is why if I do finally "man-up" and order an S3 it will be a manual version. It might be the last chance I get to order a manual car before they are consigned to history. Personally I think Audi should be applauded for offering the S3 as a manual. It's great to have the choice and it would have been so easy for them to offer it as S-tronic only like they do with some of their other models.
