Non S-Line Register

I see that this forum has an S3 register. Perhaps we should also start an "Non S-Line" register as they seem to very few are far between. I called in to my dealers on Saturday and every used new A3 they had for sale was an S-Line. I have telephoned a number of other dealer to try and get a test drive in a 2.0TDI s-tronic SE or Sport and they all say "we have an S-line". If you look on the Used car section on the Audi UK website and search for a new A3 just about everyone for sale is an S-Line. So it seems that "Non S-Line" must be quite rare.
 
The standard ones that come with it - 17" 5 spoke design

Strange you sould say that because my search turns up 'non s-lines' Used Audi Vehicles – Official Audi Used Vehicles That's not my post code btw...
 
I don't really care if there are one or two "Non-S Line" used cars for sale in the country. I don't buy used cars. My post was about the fact that there are far more S-Line models around than SE or Sport and as we have a register on the forum for the slightly rare S3 perhaps we should have one for the equally rare "Non-S line" 8V models as well. Purely out of interest to see how many of the 8V forum members have a "Non-S line"
 
Fine then, I was only trying to help you and I don't believe that non s-line A3's are that rare. Having said that s-line might be preferred for a reason...

I agree, sometimes when there isn't that many of a certain car, it may be that the car isn't that desirable. Whether that be the fact the S-lines are more popular or desirable, I'll leave that up for debate.
 
I personally am of the opinion that S line models provide a good overall package. Nicer sport seats, leather/part leather. Nice wheels. More sporty styling.., costs a bit more but hey why not if you like it! Most Audi buyers probably will!

I agree that a lot of people must like the S-Line package which is why there are so many of them about but personally I would prefer an SE or a Sport. At least I think I would. I've had a 2.0TDI Sportback s-tronic S-Line for the day some months ago but I have yet to drive either an SE or Sport with the same engine and gearbox combination. But that will be remedied on Thursday as I'm having a Sport for the day.
 
Having had a sport A1 i wanted something grown up non sports and comfort.
Went SE TDI finished off with interior light package, auto dimming mirror, auto lights, auto wipers and aluminium highlights.

I have had a number of 'Sport' type models in the past from Golf GTis, Golf VR6 and four A3 1.8T Sports but my last four A3s have been SE and now I prefer the non-sport, comfort package of a quality car. Perhaps if I was 30 years younger I would be buying an S-Line but why pay an extra £1,000 over the cost of my spec of SE to get things that I don't like including the S3 seats, the black headlining, flat-bottom steering wheel and the S-Line alloys. If I find the seats in the Sport comfortable I may go for that model rather than add 17" wheels to an SE like I have to my existing SE.

I know what I prefer, if I am paying out for a decent spec'ed A3 you might as well get the one you want, whatever that may be.

I only went Sport because it made financial sense - pretty much everything that the sport comes with was something i would have specced on an SE anyway, and it's cheaper to get the sport than add the options to SE. Still with SE suspension of course!

I was going to spec. a Sport, but ended up with the s-line. To start with, I wanted xenons. By the time I added those the fact I don't like the standard wheels, so would have spec'd a different set, and wanted Alcantara trim which is cheaper to add to the s-line, I was close to the s-line price. Given the residuals on an s-line vs sport is likely to be higher and the fact it looks meaner due to the more aggressive front bumper, I figured it would be better to spring for the extra and ordered the s-line.

Of course, I could just be making that up and only went for it as I'm a boy racer....:icon_thumright:

I wanted xenons too, and alcantara, so I added them and still much cheaper than s-line. Wheels are fine for me. Bonus with sport is that the xenons are adaptive too, you don't get that with s-line without paying extra...
 
corrected what?

Residuals don't matter much to me, I'm intendig to keep my car. Spending less is better. Especially if the alternative is spending money to make it look 'more aggressive', what a pointless thing to spend money on :p
 
Close to £1000 difference once you add the adaptive xenons to s-line (which requires light & rain sensor pack)

I will sell my car at some point.. The difference by the time I added everything I wanted was < £800. On £33k, it wasn't worth worrying about given the car styling looks better IMHO.

Xenons £955 extra on sport (£1250 - £295 it costs extra for xenon plus it costs on S line extra to Xenons it comes with)
alacantra £ 795 extra on sport (s line comes with upgraded bi-athlon cloth and part leather inc, personal preference but just as good)
luggage pack £145 extra on sport (have to buy on sport to get upgraded cloth, comes standard with s line)
= total £1895 extra paid
= extra for s line is £2150

"much cheaper" is £255.00 less than an S line, (which you will get back and plus some even if you don't sell for many years) which is under 0.8% difference on your spec.

All personal preference on choices, but doesn't certainly doesn't save much.
 
Gotta compare like for like, can't just ditch alcantara for something else then say 'look it's the same!', it doesn't work like that!

Yup.. Alcantara is £480 on s-line... Add £480 onto £255 and you come to <£800 :)

Did you forgot to add in the different bodykit as well, which I think adds to the car?

didn't forget, Sline front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, rear window spoiler, 18" alloys, s line door sills, upgraded s line flat bottom steering wheel, upgraded aluminium inserts,etc

Price of 2.0TDI sportback sport with alcantara, storage & luggage pack (reqd with alcantara) + xenon light pack - 25915
Same in s-line (alcantara + adaptive lights) - 26800

26800 - 25915 = 885, which is more than 800 last time I looked, and a significant cost for stuff I'm not interested in. Where the hell did you lot learn maths?

Yes, because someone brought my personal choice into question, I justify it with reasons to do with me. Obvious, no? And then you come along and tell me all the stuff I get with s-line that I'm supposed to care about, when we are still talking about why I chose what I chose?

I didn't want the adaptive lights... I can't spec up a sport with xenons but without adaptive. So, for me the maths made it to below £800. I.e. what it would have cost me for my options....

Great, but we weren't talking about you. You were criticising my maths on my options don't forget.
 
I'm really not convinced that the s-line styling package makes the car 'boy racer' at all, but if the saloon had a spoiler bolted onto the boot I think it would. To me the changes are a little more subtle than that but add to the 'ambience' of the car and gives it a slightly more 'unique' look to other cars.
