Needing some advice with detailing... S3... need suggestions

Guys i'm looking for some advice on the car.. looking to wax it and maybe put a sealant on it or something for the winter... as you know winters rapidly approaching and with the dark nights, frozen hoses and all that coming in, i'm looking for a kinda longish term deal for the car, just cos its winter doesnt mean it has to stop looking tasty!

Looking for something in the medium price range, dont want to go nuts on products... a nice gloss wax and sealant to keep it in, would be great and where to get it from... suggestions needed?

Contact Mark (brodster) he has full range of detailing products on his site. Im thinking we may need to have a detailing type meet. :) x

Thanks Jason was good to meet with you at ADI,imo you cant beat collinite 476 WAX for winter protection and its cheap as well going to give mine another coat in the week in the meantime heres a photo taken with the collinite on mine in 45bvtc's garage the week before ADI.

what process did you do to achieve somethin like that if you dont mind me asking?

wash, dry.... Did you clay your car? Is that really worth it?

that would be great Sandra... Maybe start of spring tho, gets everyone in the buzz for summer coming :)
 
Collinite is really good stuff and so is Blackfire all paint protection which I find is really easy to apply and take off and can be layered to form a really tough barrier. For an even deeper gloss on sprint blue you can apply wax on top of it :)
 
Ive always been meaning to buy some Collinite but never got round to it!!

Just one question tho, on that link it says Collinite has 'no cleaners' in it - Is it bad to have cleaners in a wax and why?
I'm currently using Meq's Cleaner Wax, for sub £10 it's pretty good.
 
A "cleaner wax" such as your megs one is like super resin polish i.e it's main job is to cover up swirls and fine scratches whereas wax's such as collinite, auto finesse etc have no cleaners at all and are designed to be applied over already polished/corrected paintwork to enrich and protect the paint.

Ive only had the car 3.5 months and the paintwork is in excellent condition there was no need for paint correction.,I clayed the car the second week i had it used poor boys black hole glaze [contains cleaners and fillers] and finished off with dodo juice purple haze pro wax,this time i used poorboys black hole and topped it with Collinite 476 wax which as i said before imo is the best wax for winter protection.All the info you need for looking after our cars bodywork can be found here. I'm on FK1000p (sealant) topped with pink wax for the winter. Had the choice of this combo or 476 when I took my car in but always wanted to see how the 1000p looked. The beading after rain is outstanding. Very happy with the outcome.
 
Poorboys quick detailer plus is a good product and easy to use IMO

If you've got the time, its best to give the paint a clay and a polish first with something like Autoglym SRP or Black Hole.


One thing I found with the Colly 476 is that if applied in cold temperatures it can be a bit hard (as opposed to soft) and difficult to apply thinly. My tip is to keep the tin somewhere nice and warm just before applying, and then use a warm applicator if possible :thumbsup:

The 476 should last you a good few months over Winter.

*Update*

So I eventually got round to doing the winter detail... between work and weather it was hard to find time, anyway, i'll list my process then show some pics...

Spayed wheel cleaner on car and then foam lanced, bucket washed the car and chamois dried...
Clay barred the car using Bilt Hamber Auto-clay (Its amazing the ammount of dirt that still comes off the car)...
Washed and dried again...
(Didnt require polish at the moment as paintwork is ingood condition)...
Applied collinite 476 round the whole car and waited to haze...
Removed wax with mibro fibre cloth and then buffed each panel with microfibre buffer
Washed and dried again
Tried out rain-x cleaner and protection for the windows to see what its like (Apparently a cheap wax-style spray for the windows)

This all took me about 4hrs and heres some pics of the results... It was getting dark when I took them and it was on a i-phone...

The sprint blue is also a hard colour to get a reflection on, it just absorbs the light...


Some nice water beading at final wash...

Great results i love Sprint Blue, the water beads look like their hovering.

Anno mate cheers... was watching the clouds and wind direction more than wee Sean Batty today haha... pics dont really do it justice if i'm honest but looks good... some hard work that ha!

You just can't beat that clean car feeling !! In my opinion its well worth every minute of effort.

Only downside ? the ****** british weather getting the thing dirty again !

You're spot on there i hate looking at my car when its filthy,as soon as its clean again its like its a different car also its good exercise:weight_lift2: and saves on gym fees LOL.
 
5 hours later and I've finished.

Snowfoam, Autoglym shampoo, Bilt Hamber clayed, Pourboys Black hole glaze and finally collinite 476 (twice).

Light in the picture doesn't do it justice really
