Dreaded 01318 fuel pump error.

It feels slower, but not underpowered. In many ways it pulls far better that you would ever expect 130bhp to do. Mind you, looking at the cams in the A4 it must have been down in power a lot!

Glad your not too dissapointed with the A6, won't take yoo long to get used yo the power drop, enjoy the extra mpg!!

Unlucky James, I was reading your twitter updates, but only just caught up with this thread, whilst researchin V6 TDi's, as I mentioned at the S/RS event!

So the 2.5tdi is a no for me then! Daaaamn.

Guys, do not dislike the v6 tdi just because a few break down, it's unfortunate that it happens but most is the result of poor servicing by the previous owners. 1.9Tdi has it's own share of issues and they often break down with cam wear too. Just to give you an example, one of my mates sold it's tweaked 1.9Tdi AFN quattro sport last night, it was the one in the classifieds with sorted Eibach/Bilstein suspension, 11mm pump, BV43 turbo and larger injectors- was running about 180Bhp as well ! He bought a v6 tdi quattro audi a6 and that with just a remap drives better than the 1.9Tdi + it has bags of torque low down and it's quieter at motorway speeds than the weezy 1.9Tdi engine ! The extra space and the smoothness of the engine makes for a better drive than the 1.9Tdi ever was + the fuel economy is not that bad for it's size ! His car is on 215k and the cams are immaculate and it's still running the original VP44 pump ! Mapped 1.9Tdi are decent, however the power comes in one lump and tails off after 3000 rpm's, the v6 pulls strongly after that and it does not require stronger clutch or up-rated rods to go past 250 Bhp !

Oooh mines bigger than your "weezy" 1.9 lol!!

I have found my 1.9 plenty good enough for the 6 years and 100k that i have done in it, the cars on 150k now and still drives great, been a great engine for me.

I'm not knocking it all, I love the engine, but the reality is I would never buy another one. That's spot on about maintenance, unfortunately for an engine of that age this is where the problem lies. When the cambelt was done on mine at 80k "savings" were made, I bought the car at 100k, but it didn't bite me on the **** for another 28k miles!

Had I owned the car from new, and changed everything every 40-60k then I am in no doubt the engine would still be going strong now. Few people are fortunate enough to be in that position.

My 1.9 B5 Passat is on 208k miles! But the 1.9 is old tech, I considered a 2.0 tdi, but the turbo's are made of chocolate, so V6 is the next option. 3.0 TDI is what I've been looking at. Why is the A6 available in 2.7 quattro, and the A4 not?

Agreed 3.0 looks a better option than the 2.0, i am hoping to skip the B7 and go for a B8 black edition but thats on condition of the B6 lasting a while yet, i would love the 3.0 but i think in reality it will be the 2.0 177 although from the feedback i have read the 2.0 140/50 depending on year with a decent remap and the bonus of lower tax could also be a viable option, although they all have their own issues.

3.0tdi has it's own share of problems and they start to surface more lately as the cars are getting on a bit now ! For once i would not yet buy a car that requires an engine pull in case of working on the timing, the old 2.5 v6 tdi are rather simple engines compared with the later CR engines ! Coming to it i ask myself what car i would buy next, i have a 2004 s4 saloon which will be put for sale soon as it does not give me enough frills ! I would probably buy an old 5 cyl s2/rs2 or a b5 audi rs4 as a toy and probably stick with the a6 for a while now !
In your case the old 1.9 Tdi AVF will do just fine, they are nice to drive with a remap especially on the gt1749va turbo. When you start tweaking it it becomes clear why the saying "no replacement for displacement" makes sense...

QJ
Gutted for ya mate and just when your car was looking the beaut it was meant to be too!

I nearly bought an A6 1.9 sport BITD but got seduced by the Q.
And

Thanks mate.

The car is getting collected tomorrow and going up to Glos to a mates premises for storage. It's going to be a week or so before I get up there to make a start, so if anyone is after anything please let me know asap.

Really like the A6 I must say, great car for what it is. Whilst I miss the leather, I'm loving all the little things I didn't get round to fitting such as footwell and puddle lights, illuminated door handles, etc, and if the forecast is believed the heated seats might come in useful this week too!

Last day up at Glos today, the car will be going to the great Audi graveyard in the sky later this week. I have worked hard to break it, spent ages answering SFQ's and dealing with rude ebayers, in many ways I shall be glad to see it go. At the close of play someone (In Canada!) has bought the gearbox, diff and starter..... I feel happy that I've made as much as was feasible from the car.

Another bootful of stuff wends it's way home!

And for the vultures amongst you....

RIP...........it will live on, in many other cars :) I can see my heat shield which is the most important part LOL

I think all our B6's should carry donor cards now!! Still bet you love the extra space in the A6

Hey james, any chance you still have the drivers door left off this car?

I followed your problems with the old engine on a different forum a while ago when the car first went wrong so i'm sorry to hear this one's gone wrong and finally killed it off.

With the exception of a couple of boxes of bits I still need to sort it's all long gone now, sorry.
