S3 Register

It really depends on the dealer - if they cocked up their predictions for orders they get less allocation at the factory I believe. Another dealer may have more build slots.

I've asked Audi UK customer services how the process works and why delivery timescales vary so widely.
It will be interesting to see if I get a straight answer.
I will let you know!

Just heard from Sam at Derby Audi, my build week is now 51, pulled forward from wk7.

Wk51 is w/c 16th Dec, so he reckons collection 1st or 2nd week in Jan if I want it. Or can wait for a 14 plate.

Take it early, why wait 2.5.months for a new plate. I waited an extra month for mine as could have collected 28th July but collected on 1st September as was away in holiday for 3 of those weeks.

I have a few reasons for considering waiting, mostly silly.
For
1. 14 is my wife's lucky number and it's her birthday
2. 2013 has been an awful year for us and we want shot of it in every way possible. A 63 plate reminds us of it.
3. Gives me a few months off paying out for a car
4. Heightens the anticipation
5. Means I can arrange a 1st march collection (Saturday!) and enjoy the few days if people pointing.

Against
1. Don't get the car as quick
2. It will sit at the dealer for a few months gathering dirt
3. It will mean I will have to tax our z4 to use for February as our other spare car (a 60hp fiesta) will be gone end of Jan

Nice spec man, what were the issues you had with Vauxhall?

Nice spec man, what were the issues you had with Vauxhall?

First off they had to replace the car in July due to bad front end and side panel stone chipping... Crazy I know but they offered a respray for the affected panels to which I gave them a two word response!!

Then since July it's on its third gearbox to which they still haven't come up with a suitable root cause.... First was that gearbox was just FUBAR'd then second they blame excessive play in the fly wheel... It's gone again since but it's still driveable and refund is due in the next few weeks when private plate retention is through so not bothered taking it in again. Also customer service has been terrible!!! I will never ever buy Vauxhall again!

That's awful.

Nice to see another car coming from Derby, especially another Brilliant Red !

Are you going for a 1st march collection? I think we are so it could be a duo of brilliant reds!

I'm hoping mine will be a 1st march... They haven't confirmed yet, I spoke with Mark at Audi last week an I think the expected delivery week was early February, but I will be waiting for a 14 plate.

Sounds good. I've been dealing with Sam over there (their white S3 demo is his company car at the moment) and I have found them great so far.

It was going to be a 14 plate anyway. Its about 3-4 weeks it seems from build to collection. Some peoples builds are coming forwards some going back, I was just updating on mine.

Personally it matters not to me, I will get it when I get it, cant do much about it ! As you may see from some of my earlier posts I have been pretty patient since seeing the S3 at its launch in Geneva :)

Sorry mate not seen your earlier posts. Didn't realise it was that long from build to delivery.... My previous Vauxhall was less than 2 (but that could explain a few things!!!)

No need for sorry Robo - just stating the facts! Actually my order was 9th Oct, so i dont think March is too bad. I think someone else on here ordered their S3 in summer and has anticipated delivery of feb/march 2014 ! So it could have been worse! I wont comment on your vauxhall as I only have experience of vw and audi. (but none of my cars have needed 3 gearboxes!)

I think we have about 110 sleeps to go now. Getting impatient already.

Starter motors are for idiots who can't hand-crank engines.
Auto choke is for idiots who can't start cars.
Power steering is for idiots who are too weak to steer
Cruise control is for idiots who can't press the accelerator
Park assist is for idiots who can't park
etc etc

Just because you chose not to add a particular assist system (but did choose others I notice), doesn't make people who did choose them idiots.

That's one of the most ludicrous and idiotic things I've ever read on here.

not its not, if you have eyes then you don't need lane assist!!! actually if you need lane assist you shouldn't be driving imo.

why do people really just pull out without looking?

Draw a line where? An assist is an assist - I don't see why there has to be a line? The 'gimmicks' of today will be the must haves / standard kit of the future.

Electric windows for example... everyone thought they were a gimmick when they came out. You'd be outraged these days if you bought a new car and it didn't have them!

my fiesta 1.25 r reg has electric front windows but manual rear windows - its not the end of the world as its an allotment/tip run car despite being very good condition - but I get your point

You'll love it. Bit strange at first, and you'll be hovering over the pedals till you get used to it and trust it!

I work in technology - it, fixed/mobile telecoms - I wouldn't trust test to drive me, no way!! hell tech isn't able to print a page of text without constantly failing

I guess you don't need cruise control either then as you have eyes? I've honestly not heard so much rubbish in my life! It's an assist, like anything else, and a good safety feature too

My original build date for S3 SB was March 2013 but brought forward to Week 45. It has now been built, I have the VIN number and it's on the way to the port! Just a few more weeks. Ordered last week of September.

sounds like they may have stepped up production if a lot of peoples date are changing

Well so much for my theory - there appears to be absolutely no logic to when you order and when when you are likely to receive that I can fathom!
All I know is 9 months is way too long to have to wait for a new car!!!

dealers are allocated slots I think, so if the dealer is popular youll have a longer wait - this is what my dealer told me anyway

It really depends on the dealer - if they cocked up their predictions for orders they get less allocation at the factory I believe. Another dealer may have more build slots.

or more likely the dealer forgot to put the order through - 9 months for delivery is unacceptable - id ask for compo or freebies - latter is most likely - maybe some nice bike holders or service pack - quite a big cost to you or I but with their mark up it wont cost them much

nice spec, what was wrong with the astra vxr other than being an ugly chav car. did they let you keep the baseball cap :haha:

the salesman at my audi dealer used to work in a Vauxhall dealer. he didn't have a lot of complimentary words about Vauxhall. sure they are cheap with massive money off deals but poor resale value but in most cases you get what you pay for - ive driven non sporty Vauxhalls as hire cars like the Vectra and astra and youd have to be dead to like them. I drove an astra and it was terrifying as the chassis and handling were terrible

Do me a favour you little gob****e.

aw come on I was just kidding - look on the bright side think of it as fate, youll end up with a far better car, albeit a lot more expensive and understated (latter is a good thing)

have to say that you've been unlucky with the Vauxhall, 3 gearboxes even if isolated highlights the running gear doesn't match the power of the engine

I guess you don't need cruise control either then as you have eyes? I've honestly not heard so much rubbish in my life! It's an assist, like anything else, and a good safety feature too

I had to take cruise control as it was "free" with the comfort pack

I'm the first to admit that the VXR has not been a good experience but c'mon man I don't need you rub it in my face!!

But you are exactly right I'm coming out the other side with a much better car!!

Ah, so you are one of these people who somehow think their driving prowess is eroded away by having assist systems? Do you think your masculinity is being threatened or something?
Even though you have Park assist...

lol I am joking by the way. thought it was obvious

I need park assist as I like that gimmick. I have no problems but im getting old and I guess choosing that aid i clearly shouldn't be allowed to drive

I looked at the lane assist but just couldn't see the point - if it was free then sure if have it

not sure what this has to do with masculinity, I just like a pure driving experience

apols , wasn't trying to rub it in. just cant believe the bad experience but at least you've got a full refund. id be tempted to dump it in the reception of Vauxhall hq

I got a full refund on a New V6 Vauxhall Omega in 2004/5 after paint fell off and it caught fire.
