Hi Guys,

My A4 is currently in my local Audi garage getting MOT'd and they've informed me that the bleed nipple has snapped off on one of the calipers :-(. They mentioned last time that it had cracked so it's obviously bit the dust. Never had one crack or snap on any of my cars before - very odd.

Anyhow in terms of getting it replaced Audi are probably going to want me to pay for a new caliper which will be god only knows how much. I'm guessing my best option is sourcing a decent used replacement? And if I can source one will Audi fit second hand parts that you supply? The reason I ask is i'm trying to keep my Audi service history for now as the car has only done 75k and I expect the balance shaft failure at some point. I took out a warranty to cover it and this covers me to get the repair work done at Audi which i'd prefer.

Cheers

Alex

Not a chance Audi will fit anything not supplied new by them.

A new recon caliper will be in the region of £75-100, most if not all indy garages will be able to remove the bleed nipple by way of a stud extractor. Not sure if Audi would do this, they are just fitters not mechanics.

Ok thanks - I use a local VAG specialist for my wife's car so will probably use them. I take it if they can remove the bleed nipple they will just fit a replacement saving the need for a whole new caliper?

Yep, Done it a couple of times myself on calipers, quite a common problem on most cars.

Some bleed nipples are almost impossible to remove when seized, very easy to drill to far down and damage the tapered seat, what about a recon caliper fitted by any local garage.
Good tip is to always use caliper nipple covers and always put a little grease into the covers when fitting them.
