I have a '99 S3 and have heard various things about Haldex systems, etc.

Are all quattro systems Haldex, would my S3 be a Haldex system or simply full time 4 wheel drive,

if so what is the distribution of power front and rear for a regular 4wd system on my year S3?

Thanks,

Will

S3 is haldex.

Hdaldex and Quattro are completely different

our s3s are 4wd when they need to be, and will send up to 50% to the rear when needed, when its not, its a fwd car, but you will never notice that.
Its a smart system, ours is a fairly primitive one tho.

"quattro" is just what Audi call all their 4 wheel drive systems. The way they work and brand depends on the model. All transverse engine models in the Audi range use haldex as their system. Basically a clutch pack that engages the rear wheels when slip is detected. It is always engaged a little bit but can clamp completely to give 50% of power to the rear when needed but it won't usually last long, e.g lunching in the wet or cornering hard.

Hunt down a gen 1 haldex Blue controller to unleash the couplings full potential.
Anticipating further questions lol
Fire away:)

Yea I'm waiting for the above to happen
