audi preston rang me today, knowing a oil change is due,who would pay £159 incl vat for that!!!i put the phone down lol ..how do u reset the service light if i go to another garage

Why not get an audi garage to do it for 129 ? Or even cheaper if someone within 5 mines does it cheaper using genuine parts , not all do it but some do its not cheap for genuine oil even at trade prices but their labour charges are like £102 an hour if I remember correctly

£159 isn't overly expensive, 4-5 litres of oil, oil filter & an hours time, by main dealer aswell including vat, its fair & yes you can get it done cheaper elsewhere, as with all things, but its all relative to what there expenses are for a nice shiny looking dealership etc, to entice people in & the whole portrayal of audi as a premium brand.

Also if you have audi service if anyone untested goes on you can all audi uk and apply for a good will gesture towards the repair as the can guarantee its only has lubricants and parts to the correct specs something baring in mind incase your fuel pump can follow blows up they will consider doing something towards fixing it

And as Nigel said 4.5 ltrs of 5-30 vw spec oil is not that cheap even at cost

Tbh thats a decent enough price, suprised they let the s3 in for that price under fixed price servicing, usually it would be way more as s3 isn't part of that!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1hr labour to change the oil. I take 30mins using normal diy ramps.
Wholesale cost of oil, what £20 ish.

Its main dealer prices but like said above its the customer service you pay for not just the job. Luckily for me, I used to be in the trade for a while. Not sure if this helps in anyway but I managed to get the following prices around a week ago from TPS (genuine audi parts)

5Ltr Longlife 5W30 - £27.49
Oil filter - £5.62

Plus VAT

If you count all the time taken, so to take the car in, lift, remove trims unless sucking it out, drain, remove filter, clean up a bit maybe, fit new filter, new oil, check all for leaks & levels, along with making sure each nut plastic or metal are torqued to correct amounts, reset SVC with systems, update online systems for car service schedules, test run car all ok & return to service desk etc, will easily take an hour overall, that is the process.

Its a main dealer, you get the dealer stamp that some want when reselling car, they cant charge indy prices as they have far more costs out there than indy's, far more, of which I'm not going to go into detail about.

Allot of people need to think about the whole picture, all people think is the time it takes to remove old oil & fit new filter/oil, there are other time consuming things to do all part of the process at a dealer & some don't even get charged for tbh, if they were to honestly use stopwatches on each persons involvement on your car, you'd be surprised on the time that's used up by service desk, technician, foreman, parts department, audi uk, service reminder staff, etc, its phenomenal tbh.

I've just had my first oil change done on my 2012 S3 and after a bit of haggling and quoting local indy prices, Hereford Audi came down from £168 to £130. I know it seems a lot for a simple task but on a premium car the stamp is worth it and if anything goes wrong in the future then Audi have full responsibility!

Just had my 2010 A3 S-tronic Quattro done, oil, filter, labour £103......I am pleased with that going by some others peoples comments on here

I must of been speaking to Arfur Daley then when I went to book my S3 in for its oil change and cough cough .....pollen filter change.....ready for this £327 plus VAT.............I almost had a fit on the phone and then was offered 10% discount. Needless to say I told them to poke it. Went to Costco and got the Oil for just over £30 which is the same long life professional stuff they use in the garage and got an oil filter from the stealers.........Howz about that for robbing barstewards eh????

Daughters boy friend has his own garage, he HAS to look after me lol

I use a an independent Audi specialist as Audi garages are not located near me his prices are little cheaper but service is outstanding picks my car up get it back way he got it, took my car to Audi about faulty headlight once and never again basically tried to charge me almost £200! For nuthing took them over and hour to try find a fault which took the garage I use less that 10 mins to tell mme the problem, I think every dealer is different, I personally won't use them again fair enough asked me if I wanted my car cleaned i said no it was clean enough but they didn't explain it was absolutely covered in bird **** I mean covered was not impressed suppose everyone has different opinions just mine :)

Personally speaking, anything around the £125 mark I can live with, for the dealer stamp etc, much below that and it isn't really worth saving the money. £160 is a bit much though...

The other thing to consider, the £159 is with at least £30 of vat included aswell, which doesnt help whatsoever, but alas government & taxes huh.

Just had mine done at Bedford Audi.

£149 for oil change and inspection service, car washed inside and out and a courtesy car for the day.

Oh and a nice coffee made by the lovely girl on reception.

It wasn't no, I'll have to have a look for them next time I'm in the Italian shop :icon_thumright:

Bung me your address, as I'm due to go back soon & then again all over here for xmas, then I'll ping you some in the post when I get back, they're nothing short of a crack addiction lol, which isn't a funny thing, but point made, they're lovely.

If I can't get them in Bedford (highest ratio of Italians in the UK apparently) then I'll give you a shout.

In all seriousness, I took mine to Audi about 2 months ago. Nearly choked at what they priced me for its first Oil Service.

Plonked a 5litre on the desk with a new filter when I got there and told them to get on with it.

I worked out they were going to try and charge me nearly 22.50+VAT per litre. Go Fish....

I always bring back about 10+ kilo's anyway as Brighton Audi loves them, my brother does, infact everybody who eats them wants a bag lol, but they're so expensive in UK its unreal, as I usually have 23-46 kilo's of luggage to use up & I have sweet fa to take/bring back anyway as clothes there, then I stack it up with formaggio, biscotto, you name it :)

Sorry to go off topic guys, hardly ever do :)

My car... My choice of what oil I want in it :p

I got the proper Audi Filter and bolt thingy as I wanted to maintain the Audi Parts guarantee.

They can't very well charge me for something I am providing them with.
