2013 Audi S3

I drove a demo with it too and agree that it's not nice on the seats but the red stitching is lovely.

Im pretty sure that it isn't brushed red leather though, I think it's just the same non-leather silk material that the standard seats are made from.

Brochure says 'red velvet', not leather.

thanks very much to all, that's really helpful.

Just came back from my dealer, with my new s3 :).

It's the first time i see Estoril blue and it's even far more beautiful than i ever thought it would be!!! It's so beautiful even during today's rainy day.

It feels really powerful, couldn't help but finding myself above the speed limit. I'll need to take caution if i want to keep my license. Coming from a Nissan 370z, i can already say this car is far superior in every respect.

What struck me was how nice the clutch felt, light but quite sporty. Perfect.

I took some crappy pictures in the rain with my iphone:

thanks man! Don't worry yours will be there soon enough and for info, nothing can prepare you to the euthoria you feel after picking up your baby. It feels like a dream :).

By the way, forgot to mention, this baby does make quite a bit of exhaust noise, even if i chose a manual.

Edit: Oops sorry, i feel so much euphoria i thought Paul wrote the above :)). I know you're getting yours soon Paul. Thanks a lot lotus :).

Just had an update from my dealer and my car is still at the docks in Germany, not even aboard a ship yet! It's been there for nearly a week now. The 4 months wait was fine, but now I know it's built I want it now!!!

What was your build week pal?

I just floored mine out of a wet/leafy junction turning right. no slip at all and it raced all the way up to 60mph in no time at all and made a lovely noise too.
just thought i'd share that with you all and help the anticipation along a bit for those who are still waiting ).

Quick question for anyone who has got the standard titanium alloys...

What wheel cleaner are you going to use? I just used Autoglym's clean wheels on my previous cars, but wondered if titanium would require an acid free cleaner like their Custom wheel cleaner?

Also, because it's this time of year (dark early, cold and miserable) i like to give it a quick jet wash after work every few days and a proper clean when i have got the time. I was wondering if there were any spray on products like for the alloys that you apply to the paintwork a few minutes before that will help dissolve / clean the car better as i only use the jet wash lance and obviously not the brush...

I have read about something called "Extreme stance iron and wheel cleaner" by inspired automotive, and it's description sounds like what i'm looking for...

Cheers!

Oh and ^^^^ what Gareth said!!!

Jonny why don't you just snow foam it, leave it a bit then jet wash it off for a quick clean.

Hi Rob

I saw that snow foam on the Inspired Automotive website but didn't read about it. How is it applied?

I actually use a petrol station jet wash as i'm currently in a city centre apartment and my jet wash is at my parents, could i still use the snow foam at the garage?

No the snow foam is a lance you attach to the jet wash. It has a little bottle on the end filled with err snow foam and you just spray it over the car, leave it a bit then wash it off. It just lifts the dirt and makes it easier to clean.

Im far from an expert though, my cars are normally filthy!!!

Actually just had a little read about it, looks interesting an perfect for what i'm after..

I could actually use it at work. I drive all day every day + Glacier white = looks like s**t most of the time with the bad weather now upon us..

Just wanted something quick to keep the car looking presentable, the normal jet wash foam doesn't do a good enough job really.

Think i'm gonna order the lance and try some out!

Last quick question Rob / anyone else that knows...

The standard S3 titanium alloys are not powder coated are they? Just read you are unable to use snow foam if so...

Cheers!

I've got a snow foam lance at home and have used various foams. It's very effective when the foam goes on it just sits on the paint like a big carpet then penetrates the dirt, then just falls off. Then you pressure washer off and it's almost completely clean then, certainly presentable. For a proper wash you obviously need to follow up with a two bucket hand wash.

No idea mate. Just get some proper wheel cleaner. Brake dust is always a nightmare to clean off any way, snow foam isn't that good at loosening the stuff.

the one i test drove had parade red.... its very red!! i didnt like it on the seats, too much for me although the other details like the stitching on the steering wheel and gear stick were nice. cant remember the material but i think its the brushed leather similar to other seats like my black nappa...

There are a few pics here on this demonstrator for sale in Worcester -

I'm still not sure whether to stick with manual or go auto. I like driving and feel the auto will take away my involvement. Sure the auto is quicker and quicker at shifting but there is no skill in driving an auto

its ts a hatchback, daily driver, not a sports car.... The auto still offers paddle shifts for attack mode, great fun and seamless....
new GT3 only offers PDK, no manual option anymore...... Go figure......

I have a manual, but the wife has recently got an auto jag which I drive regularly. So if I was ordering now I would probably go S-tronic.

s tronic all the way. I've driven both and didn't really like the manual box, gates felt like they were in the wrong place (2nd to 3rd kept hitting gate), clutch too light too. Stronic is a great box and the paddles still let you have fun with it. I love to downshift myself when coming up to a roundabout or corner I want to attack rather than letting the box do it all in auto.

Remember that you can just be in D and then override into manual mode with the paddles at any moment without having to change out of D.

In my opinion the car is designed for stronic. The driving modes give you control over the gearbox too, the adaptive cruise (if you have it) allows you to go right down to zero mph and then it will pull away again for you (ideal for queuing traffic) etc etc. The paddles feel just so right to use and it does fantastic rev matching on the downshifts far better than my heel and toe could ever manage.

You could argue that stronic lets you be the driver you want to be and it lets you concentrate on the road more.

Some people will always want a manual and I understand that. I'm lucky as I have a manual z4 to keep my skills up but for a daily driver the dsg/stronic box is great.

I 'm personally very glad i chose the manual, i find myself blipping before every roundabout (the old fashion way!) and i love feeling involved.

Clutch is lighter than a lot of sports cars but IMHO i feel it's a definite plus. The clutch on my 370z made my foot ache like crazy when i was in traffic.

But the biggest reason for choosing a manual is that I prefer driving my car rather than being driven by it.

(But i do respect people whom decided to go for the stronic instead, it's all a matter of personal preference!)

This S-Tronic is the first auto i have ever owned, i vowed i would always stay with manual due to driver involvement, but because i drive all day i took a punt and man has it paid off, i do not miss the manual at all...

As said above, you have the option to use the paddles at any given moment, and can be combined with the Dynamic setting to really turn the S3 into a roaring animal...

Not to mention the exhaust blips and bangs!

Also, even in D auto mode you can feel the downshifts approaching roundabouts etc, and it does help slow you down just like a manual...

My only gripe is that Sport mode takes forever to upshift and loves to stay in whatever gear you're in for a long time, although every auto i have driven does this in their respective sport modes!

Mine is coming in a few weeks with parade red leather if you can wait that long!

Good man!! I really like the red, big fan of colour anyway and IMO it enhances the interior. Can see its not for everyone but I'll add it to my spec. Pics of yours would be great when you take delivery, good luck with that!

Will do. The brochure is misleading though, it clearly says red in the door inserts as we'll but yet to see one with that but if you look on the Audi site there is an A3 with red door inserts. The dealer is sure it will be in the door inserts but I'm not convinced guess we will have to wait and see. Pics to follow soon!!!

Hi there dstama,

I'm from Melbourne and managed to get sports package, assistance package, privacy glass and estoril blue for $71k drive away by going through a car broker. I'm not a great negotiator so I really like their model - they do a reverse blind auction with each of the dealers in the region looking for the cheapest quote.

You definitely want to try and get the price below $75k to avoid the Luxury Car Tax.

I am from Aus Syd. Pretty much the same here.
Sports pack, assistance pack, sun roof, roof rails, 40.20.40 split seats, roof rack, window tint, mmi cable in Estoril blue for around 72k. Ordered back in Sep. Expecting delivery Dec/Jan as it was built 3 weeks ago and on its way.

How did you find out about build date - I've heard zero from my dealer? Do I need to start harassing them?

My ship's two days ahead of schedule. Can't wait for the SS Manon to hit those Roaring Forties!

Were there any other forum cars on that boat that docked at Southampton on the 9th?
