I have a 2006 56 2.0 TFSI and ever since i have had the car i have never had to press the clutch in to start it or the message has never been displayed on the dis, i did this on mhy 2008 s3 last year so i always thought it must of come in on 2007 model onwards.

is this correct or should i have to press my clutch to start. if so is there any reason why i has stopped doing it.

thanks

Never had to on any manual gearbox car I've ever driven (and I've driven more than a few in my time) ...but I've never driven a manual S3, so maybe it's a quirk of that model? Depressing the clutch pedal takes the strain off the battery & engine and drivetrain, so it's usually advised to do so, but not compulsory.

Mine won't start unless you dip the clutch. 2009 a3.

Was introduced in the 2007MY. My 2006 did not need clutch depressing to start.

There is nothing wrong with your car.

It must be a safety feature, if you forget to put it in neutral so you don't hit another car or something in front or behind.

the b8 has this
vcds it dont have it anymore

Yes, as above this came in on 2007, probably inline with the slight details changes like alloy wheels and the double din headunits becoming standard.

Modern batteries and starters don't need the gearbox drag taking off them; but pressing the clutch does your crankshaft thrust bearings no good at all, especially if it's not been started for a while....

Perhaps (unlikely), but it's not because of that. It's a safety feature.

my 06 S3 requires clutch to start. how can I disable it I f**king hate it?

I'm not sure how you can "hate" it, that's a bit strong lol Many people depress the clutch when starting the car out of habit, even when it doesn't "need" it. Sure it's always best to check the gear is in neutral but pressing the clutch is extra precaution.

I remember reading about an AUDI TT that was started on a hot day from out of the car to cool down with aircon, it was left in gear and it started and drove in to a river!

if Im doing something on the car and just want to reach in the window and start it its a pain in the hoop to open door, climb in and press the clutch. its stupid nanny state bullsh!t!

I agree with Pablo. Its a right pain in the ***.
Our work car has it and winds me up every time.

Just cause a couple of berks had the car in gear broke it when starting it w all goto suffer.
O well, welcome to the nanny state.
