Yo!

Decided to do a winter detail on the RS3 couple of weeks back and thought I would share some photos. Also managed to pick up some foam tiles for the garage from Costco so fitted them to my garage floor.

Normal kinda stuff, nothing new....

Process –

Hot Foam via Power washer – Auto Finesse Avalanche, rinsed then washed using the 2BM with Megs Shampoo.

Auto Finesse Iron Out , Tardis then a Megs Mild Clay.

Dried using filtered water passed through the Aqua Gleam and Polished Bliss Luxury Drying towel.

Windows treated with Nanolex Premium Glass sealant – this should last easily 8 months plus...

Bought some Gtechniq EXO v1 last year to protect the Cayman and still had some left over. Only down side to this stuff is that you must pre-heat each panel to a minimum of 20 deg C to ensure that the coating bonds properly. Heat gun and detailing lamps were used to help with the panel temp then it’s just a case of spray on, wipe off. Same kind of idea like a Quick Detailer....

Some random pics from the detail –

I then decided to take the wheels off and coat them too (on a different day)

Again some pics of the process –

Cleaned, then sprayed with AF Iron Out, left to dwell and then rinsed. You can see from the dark purple colour the amount of contamination it’s picked up, even after a good wash.

Clay barred, then dried and protected with Collinite Marque D'Elegance (915). Tyre gel of choice was AF Satin tyre gel.

Refitted and studs torqued to the correct value (120nm I hope). Cheers to my bestest friend Bruce for a lend of his trolley jack....
And finally the floor tiles for the garage –

Seen these types of tiles before but never really been that keen on them. Quick review and worked out it would cost £60 to cover my entire garage. Purchased from Costco and fitted. Pack included edge pieces to finish of bare sides. They may not last too long, but thought for the price it would be worth a try.

Sorry about the crappy iphone pics, but wasnt planning on doing a write up.

Cheers

MAGIC KKM, just love that Suzuka grey RS3, stunning :kissmyrings:

Next time you apply protection to the wheels try Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal if only to compare with the Collinite.

A man after my heart !! You can't beat giving the RS3 a good detail so satisfying.
And I bought some of those tiles for my workplace, stops you getting fatigue when stood next to / operating a machine for long periods.
I did spot a similar thing at Costco but that was rolled up like a carpet and for garages, better than kneeling on concrete.

Great job ... looking brand new again !

That's a job that I need to do too soon ...as well as a few coats of POR-15 on my rear hubs and switch to Winter tyres.

Will do. I'm hoping it will last until spring time......

It feels loads better standing on this stuff in the garage. I did notice that stuff too, but it's slightly harder and not as soft.

cheers

I'm a believer in winter tyres KKM having both my RS3 and TT on Vredestein Wintrac Xtream tyres and find them faultless on both cars for both traction and braking. I've just gone from 17-inch to 18-inch rims on the TT (purchased from Wheelpro Scotland would you believe) so my 17-inch original TT alloys with near new Vredestein Wintrac Xtream winter tyres will be posted (Sandra please note) in the classifieds later today...

Did you go for 19-inch or 18-inch rims for winter? I went for 19-inch and NO worries.

Went for 19" on the standard wheels. £898 all in, getting a geometry check done on Thursday so getting them fitted then.

I had Wintracs on my Cayman S, and they were brilliant in the snow / cold wet.
