Hi.My name is John and I m new here.
I bought two days ago an Audi a4 2.5 tdi quattro 04 reg.The owner has been quite honest and told me about the bad parts of the car but the price was good and I was dreaming to own a car like this for a very loooooong time so I bought it.
Today I changed the oil and all filters as oil filter, air, diesel, polen and add a Metabond in the engine with the oil.Saturday I m booked for timing belt so all good until now.The problem that I have is glow plug light comes on intermittent but with no lose of power and if I turn the engine off then restart the light goes away.
Can anyone please help me with some advice and maybe direct me to a good mechanic that knows about Audi s?I live in Edgware London ha8.
The break lights are working fine but I also notice that when I press the Esp button nothing happens and the light for esp does not comes on the dashboard.
Thank you for your help in advance.

HI & Welcome.

First port of call would be to invest in VCDS if you plan on keeping the keep for more than a week. There are cheap basic aftermarket units on eBay that will check the codes. You can then register the software for $99 and that will allow a few more things to be activated on the software. Or buy a genuine kit from a Ross-Tech reseller (NHN user on here) for a couple £££ and do almost everything.

Glow plug flashing is usually the brake light switch on the pedal but it can mean a couple of other things. Best bet is to have the ecu read with VCDS. The ESP may be disabled due to faulty brake light switch if it's linked, but VCDS may show up a fault relating to the Brakes/ESP.

Thank you Dan for your advice.
I will try to do as you said and I will get back as soon as I have some results.

Hi again.
I have done a error reading on the car and came back as fuel pump relay defect code number is 01259 and 00532 and the second euro or is steering angle sensor 01826 and 00778.
Any advice on how can I sort them out??
Thank you guys.

First, clear the faults then do another scan and see which faults come back. For codes that come back, follow the advice on the RossTech Wiki

01259 - fuel pump wiring/relay fault
00532 - suggests your battery could be on it's last legs
01286 & 00778 - steering angle sensor possibly needs adapting (this can only be performed with a registered copy of VCDS/VCDS Lite)

The steering angle sensor issue is the reason the ESP is not working as it's part of the ESP system

I have cleared the codes but they came back so I m stuck with them mentioned above.
Anyone with a registered copy of VCDS can help me?
I live in Edgware London,Middlesex but I don t mind travel to you if someone can help me.
I have also try to adapt the steering neglect following some advice as starting the engine and turn full lock left then full lock right then straight the wheels back, turn engine off and swich the ignition on but without starting the engine and now I will have to do another scan

I have also contacted audi in Watford and they ask me for 144 pounds just to read the faults even that I told them which they are.I have check the battery and the green light is on as I have one with the green light indicator.
Thank you in advance for all the help guys

The green indicator on the battery means nothing in real life. Take it to get load tested or put a multimeter on it after the battery has rested over night and the engine has not been started.

Hi guys.
I have done the timing belt and water pump on the car and at the end of the job the battery was flat. The lights in the car have been all day on and drain the battery. With the winter coming I decided not to take any chances and I took a brand new battery 80 amps Varta with 2 years warranty and replace the old one.Now gues what the glow plug light didn't t came on since I replace the battery.:)))) and that took place 2 days ago.I keep an eye on the light but for the moment looks as fixed.
I still have the steering wheel sensor problem as the ESP still doesn't t work when pressed.
any garages near Edgware ha8 or mechanics?
Thanks for your help and guidance so far.
Cheers.
