235 or 245/35/19 tyres on 8.5 wheel?

Hi all

Yes another tyre / wheel thread, I have searched and read through most on hear but still have a question regarding tyre size.

I'm looking at some reps 19", ET45 8.5j which I believe I can fit with my standard sline suspension with 235/35/19's without rubbing and maybe with 245/35/19's with some spacers. "Correct me if I'm wrong"?

I would prefer to run without spacers.

My main issue is with the 8.5j and it causing a stretched look with the 235s can anyone post some pics of there 235/35/19's on an 8.5 wheel as I'm not a fan of that look?

Not the greatest of pics but I have 235/35/19 8.5j on mine with H&R springs, 15mm spacers on the front and 10mm on the rear and no scrubbing. Had 225s before but I hate the look of stretch tyres so 235 is the max I could prob run without scrubbing, with standard suspension I would think you could use a 245.

this is mine i run 235/35/19 with no rubbing. This was took just after they where fitted and the suspension was not settled. I'm ruuning 9.5" at the front and 10.5" rears

235/35/19 Ultrac Vorti's 8.5j ET48 5mm spacers up front and 15mm spacers at rear.

Can I ask what drop H&R springs you're running? Did you bother with B5 caps up front to level it? Been saving to pull the trigger on some 35mm drop H&R's to go with some B5 caps up front. It's a daily driver so not slamming it to the deck but want a tighter look.

I'm having the same conundrum of what springs to get for my daily driver. Don't want to be having to avoid speed bumps all the time and live in the fear of clipping the cupra splitter on a kerb.

Any other recommendations other than the H&R 35mm's?

Thanks for the feedback. It's speed bump city around here so the advice on B5 cups is well worth knowing . How do you find the ride? General consensus is it's better than stock S line?

245 on a 9.5 wouldn't mean you had to stretch the tyre as say a 215 on a 9.5. Tyre stretch looks good but makes the rim prone to kerbing as the rim protrudes the tyre wall. Also can make fitting difficult.

There would be no issue with 245 on a 8.5 other than potential speedometer accuracy problems.

Technically they should work but 245 will be on the wide side for an 8.5J alloy.

Not true, a 245 and indeed 255 are perfectly normal OEM fitment across many brands of car. 235 is beginning of stretch obviously minimal on an 8.5j wheel, the 85% rule confirms this.

Bit of an urban myth this one, stretching or the indeed the opposite has little or no bearing on speedo accuracy. The steel bands in the make up of the tyre that run round the circumference cannot be stretched or shortened so stretching etc cannot affect the actual rolling circumference.

A whole 1%!! If that affected speedo readings that much we'd be changing tyres every 6mths due to the wear alone;-)

Yes but you're missing the point, the difference is because the circumference changes as the profile ie 35 etc is a ratio of the width vs height(side wall). It has nothing to do with the width of the wheel its mounted on.

Sorry, my bad. When you said "Technically should work" that implies to me that in principle it should work but is not the norm when in fact it is perfectly normal to run 245, 255s.

Just noticed that they have started doing the reps I'm after in an 18", I won't be messing with the suspension so I now have no idea what to do?

It's an example of the extremes of tyre stretching. I'm not saying I agree with it, just trying to help the thread starter. Tyre choice and rim width is important and is qoften uite difficult to get right.
