Glow Plug light constantly on on my A3 1.9 TDI. Help please?

Hi,
Tonight I noticed that the glow plug light on my dashboard is constantly on. Please can I ask is this serious and what can it be?

Need to scan for fault codes in the first instance... not many people on 8L own TDi's so knowledge is a little thin... the ones that do aren't on the forum as much as the 1.8t guys so you are going to have to be patient I'm afraid...

If the glow plug light is on then there should be an associated fault code... scan and post up the results...

mines been on twice, once when there was an actual fault with a glow plug but also when my brake sensor switch was faulty

check your break lights i know this light comes on when they go , and niallh was right to say the break sensor switch too , got to fix mine soon too delayed it abit too much lol

Brake lights fine but the error reader got the code:
'Quantity adjuster upper limit reached P1562'

Does this mean anything please?

The car does not start and an AA mechanic has said that there is no fuel getting through. Could this be connected to the flashing Glow plug light please?

Notes

On the 1.9L ALH TDI engine:
The Quantity Adjuster (N146) should ohm test between 0.5 and 2.5 Ω.
With the coolant above 85° C, MVB 001, Field 3 should read between 1.45 to 2.0 Volts.


Not sure what a quantity adjuster is (not really familiar with derv's) but suspect this is a fuelling issue?

Did you have any luck in the diesel section?

Thank you so much for that. Strangely, I did not have one reply in the diesel section.
In answer to your question, yes, the AA man said that there was no fuel getting through.
Would I be correct in assuming that this is basically a fuel pump problem so perhaps try a second hand one?

I read earlier that they tend to have a lifespan of around 150,000 miles? This car is on 155,000 so maybe this would also point towards this?

Hi buel, i take it that you have 1 of the pre pd engines with this kind of pump on

the mechanical fuel pumps on those engines are prone to giving up, if you say its covered that many miles and never been replaced, you may be in need of a new 1, you could also try emptying the fuel filter or changing it for a new 1, id possibly try filter first as its the cheaper option

Thanks so much for that. Yes the car is an ASV 110hp pre-pd engine. I take it you mean the injector pump do you? Just one question I would like to ask, my mechanic friend looked at the car today and said that there was no fuel in the fuel line between the fuel filter and the injector pump so he wanted me to find out if my car has a fuel pump in the tank that he thinks I should start with before going ahead and buying a replacement injector pump? (He hasn't got time to check it today you see).

Please can I ask does my car have this?

Personally, I think that being as the error code pointed towards the injector pump and the fact that the ESP light has been flashing kind of points towards the injector pump?

Any thoughts on this?

Wow this is confusing! My mechanic friend says that there are 3 fuel pumps on the car, one in the tank and TWO on the engine? Is this correct please?
