Maybe it's just me, but I'm bored of having to clutch pump in the start-stop London traffic.
Think it's time for a change. Hence S-tronic.

As for ACC and the other 'assist' options - I like my gimmicks too, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

Draw a line where? An assist is an assist - I don't see why there has to be a line? The 'gimmicks' of today will be the must haves / standard kit of the future.

Electric windows for example... everyone thought they were a gimmick when they came out. You'd be outraged these days if you bought a new car and it didn't have them!

Hear hear - I really thought long and hard about having the LED Headlights for that reason but I just wasn't convinced they are any better than the xenons with all the options added - YET.

Ref ACC - I personally think that NOT having ACC when speccing an s-tronic car is a lost opportunity for some added relaxation in city traffic, plus it means I should hopefully never have a slow speed front end shunt into anyone else (of my making).

Safety + Relaxation = :icon_thumright:

I don't disagree, but I've decided to draw a financial line.
My spec gives an RRP of 39k, which I think is quite a lot for what is a 3dr hatchback - albeit a rather nice one! :)

Maybe I should remove tech pack high and put on ACC?
Maybe I should remove B+O and put in the super sports seats?
Maybe I should just listen to Itguy and add it? It's only £350 (minus 9% discount). A drop in the ocean given the overall cost.....

I could buy every option on the car if I wanted to - but I've decided to stop where I am now.

It's all personal choice, and at the moment I'm happy with my choices. I ended up with seven different equipment and colour combinations.

Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind up until the order can't be changed any more....... :)

I see a lot about B+O and everyone ordering it, but for me the Audi Sound System upgrade sounds fantastic - and I never have my music loud enough to need the wattage of the B&O (ie, ridiculous levels), so savings can be made there.

The ACC is one of my favourite things on my car, it works fantastically well, and really reduces both stress and aches etc on a motorway, and increases safety - an all round win.

Have to say ACC was a no brainer once I understood what it was and how it worked (mines a 184 stronic quattro).

And remember that the mk7 golfs get it as standard so you don't want to be playing second fiddle!

Always wondered what would happen if there was an ACC malfunction whilst doing motorway speeds, in any case I'll survive without it ;).

You'll love it. Bit strange at first, and you'll be hovering over the pedals till you get used to it and trust it!

Haven't ordered mate but don't think I'll miss it, plus I rarely do long motorway runs... And I suspect that whenever I do go on a motorway, I'll be too often in the fast lane to miss not having it :).

All well and good unless the fast lane is full of others that you have to sit behind :p

I use my ACC even in 30s and 40s on the way home from work, works well there too

ACC is something I held back on so that I could order it on my next car! It is an awesome feature, it's fitted onto a family car and it's so strange to start with but awesome once you're used to it.

As for now though I didn't want to become too lazy behind the wheel. Stepping up from a 115bhp manual without cruise control to an automatic with cruise control and 300bhp was a big enough leap for me!

I have a £3K sound system in my current car im a bid old for it at 45, lol

What 45... you are but a young whippersnapper IMHO... ;-)

Us oldies need B&O to play decent 70's music LOUD and to combat out less than perfect hearing!!

I've driven a Golf 7 that didn't have it, so it certainly isn't standard.

Ok. From what is on the VW website it states that it's standard on SE, GT and GTI models but not standard on S or bluemotion models.

So we're all right!

I would have taken ACC were it not for the fact the camera on the front ruins the look of the car IMHO. At least on the golf it isn't as noticeable due to the black grill. Of course I could have gone with the black styling pack, but then I'm mucking with the complete look of the car. Maybe next time once the cameras are smaller.

on query; from my test drive in a s tronic, I'm sure once the car stopped itself in traffic you had to use the accelerator to move off, perhaps having to switch ACC on again also? Some have suggested the car will resume by itself once the traffic moves, correct?

Depends on the time it is stationary for.

The grill on the A3 is black as well you know! It's a radar too, not a camera

The website does show this.. however the photo of the SE doesn't have it.. nor does the 13 Plate SE I've just been out and checked.. Seems VW and Audi can't make up their minds!

Ordered June, build week 4 2014 delivery March (9 months - WTF!) Estoril Sportback S tronic, comfort, B&O, tpi, allu roof rails, lumbar, through load, rev mat, int lights, black nappa.

Northwest, dealer says they ordered with allocation and shows paperwork. original deliverly quoted end October. Oh well 14 reg small consolation if I can wait :-/
Jardine motors dealer (one of largest Uk audi dealer groups I think) when waiting for test drive recently I also heard them quoting c6 months for standard a3 factory order. If people want "quick" delivery ask around smaller dealers for cars on order would be my advice, my dealer indicates now long list of people interested in S3.

Interesting looking through UK S3 SPORTBACK orders here seems apart from a couple of dealer pre orders that everyone else is expecting a 2014 build date wk 4 to 8. It would appear possible that Uk s3 sportback production proper wasn't scheduled to start till 2014 following official launch in Sept 13?

3 dr Model was launched earlier of course so those coming through. I may be wrong, delivered SB cars in next few weeks would confirm. If anyone has evidence to prove either way, would be good to know.

Good to hear lecht particularly as my theory would have said your original build date of wk 7 was about right from your order date. I see you don't want delivery till March so we should both get our hands on them similar day. Yours looks like the first / earliest build to me so look forward hearing of it shipping etc.

My original build date for S3 SB was March 2013 but brought forward to Week 45. It has now been built, I have the VIN number and it's on the way to the port! Just a few more weeks. Ordered last week of September.

Well so much for my theory - there appears to be absolutely no logic to when you order and when when you are likely to receive that I can fathom!
All I know is 9 months is way too long to have to wait for a new car!!!

What happened to your order? You should have got the car this year. I also ordered in June, paperwork said delivery on 17th Dec.; I have been driving it for 2 weeks now. I would say you have grounds for complaint and a reasonable "appology" in discount or extras.
