A3 real fuel consumption

the etron coming out next year will make this an interesting debate - 188mpg, with one tester claiming 235mpg and yet near hot hatch performance - we shall see if its a genuine car that people will go for

its not cheap at £32700 but with a claimed performance (0-62 7.6secs, 137mph) and mpg plus a £5000 subsidy it means its a genuine contender on a lot of peoples shopping list - I guess it would be tight getting it under £30K with options and discount

what are your thoughts - too good to be true?

mpg on hybrid cars is to be taken with a bucket full of salt, as pretty much the whole test can be done on electric only, completely skews it compared to real life. That's not to say the mpg won't be impressive... just don't believe the official figures or short tests.

true that's why I said it would be interesting especially once real drivers with real driver experiences start using them. then again even assuming getting somewhere near 100mpg that would be good

i currently have a Honda Crz, which is a hybrid, it's a 1.5 petrol and has a electric motor which only charges under braking and tops up power when accelatating to about 120hp (15 hp comes from electric motor) . I didn't buy because it was a hybrid, just liked it, but It has been a good car for the last 3 years, drives and handels relly well and has very nice cabin, 0 - 60 is 9.1 second and we have averaged 47 MPG , compared to the 56 mpg claimed so not that far off and is virtually road tax free, so been quite cheap to own, but not amazingly economical, new Sportback C.O.D. Coming in a couple of weeks, should get similar MPG although is bigger, lighter and faster, The weight of the batteries doesn't notice during driving, but I am sure it must lower the MPG to the point you don't gain much compared to just having a lighter petrol only as we are having this time. The down side is being a hybrid it has devalued quicker than deisel civic we had last time as the battles only last 5 - 7 years and are very expensive to changed, so there is a big downside!
we will see how far Audi has advanced this tech, but would definitely be interested next time round if figures are close to reality but well will see.

will be interesting. im not that interested in hybrids as most look ugly. strangely the best looking is the Vauxhall ampere. I see some manufacturer allow you to lease the batteries, but I don't this is that cheap either. thing is what happens to the batteries when they are dead

Hell of a lot cheaper than fuel for the same mileage!

I'm inteding my next car to be 100% electric, whenever that will be.
