Instrument lights

Hi.

The instrument illumination lights (speedo gauges Etc.) sometimes stay on when all other lights are turned off !

Anyone got any ideas? its a late 2008 2.0 TDi

There are various setting in vcds, depends how dark it is in mine tbh the other day i solely had the needles lit up, then the headlights came on and the numbers lit up on the dash.

Auto light system not fitted bog standard lights!

there is a light sensor built into the instrument cluster regardless of if you have auto lights or not!
in that thread there was an explanation of the instruments cluster coding that can be changed which affect how the needles light up

I see that would explain why driving to work this morning every thing worked O.K. in the dark, and the dash lights went out when I turned the lights off. Sometimes in daylight when I turn the ignition on and drive off the dash lights stay on so I assume this is just a vcds setting issue? bear with me only had the vehicle a week.

As far as I know the dials are always lit...

The only exception I know for this is when it gets dark and the car thinks that you should have your headlights on when you don't. The dials go dark to try and show you that you don't have your headlights on.

YES that's it I noticed this afternoon every time I went under the trees or in a shady area the dash lights went out and came back on in the sunlight.
