Reesy's Big Turbo A3

Just started to have a very slight rattle occasionally under acceleration but the downpipe can be tweaked to accommodate that hopefully.

Triple figures were achieved on a few occasions, but cruise control and some self control yielded great results on a trip back to see the family:

Stock white needles mate. It's got some s3 clocks in it just because they are much nicer than the a3 ones

Just keeping the few that read this thread in the loop.

The fastest TQS on ASN is still alive and running well.

I now have an auto dimming rear view mirror too, well I will have once it's wired in. At the moment I have a mirror that doesn't dim or dip.

Haha hows the turbo holding out bud? ..would you say its worth a punt in your opinion?

if you don't mind a bit of smoke occasionally when idling and a bit of lag (nothing really happens before 4k) then for the price you can't beat it.. I'd far rather have my garrett on there but until this goes pop, I intend to carry on with it.

Are you still planning on having your genuine turbo rebuilt at some point mate? Or perhaps another Lee special when one pops up?

the genuine one will be rebuilt, but out of curiosity I want to see what the life span is of this one.

Slightly poor picture of the latest mod to the car. I don't do car electrics so Ben was tasked with the job and it didn't take long.

Just got to put the microphone in and remove the rest of the old parrot phone kit and then sort out the leads so I have rear speakers as it's currently only playing out the fronts..

Nice bit of kit. Like I said its a nice matching red. Being on the choonz

Yeah, it's looks to be quite a good one..

The red is a good match, it has a multitude of colour options, the default setting is blue and a bit bright for me..

probably should have asked Ben to install it a while ago!

Is it a clarion unit?
I remember you saying you got a unit to put in but I thought it was a satnav/dvd unit.

The clarion units match really nicely to the Audi red

We want to hear about the ebay turbos comp wheel wiping people out,,, not ****** stereos.... :p

if you mean having a burn against other people then I had a fella in a range rover sport that was keen to get past on the motorway/dual carriageway. I made sure he didn't but other than that nothing exciting has been about, unfortunately..

if you mean wiping people out because it's spun itself from the turbo, gone through the bonnet and taken out a few pedestrians, that hasn't happened yet but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

this is an alpine unit mate, not a sat nav one, just double din with a parrot phone kit and iPod/Bluetooth etc

Sounds about right, with this I have to put my foot down as I see them trying to get past as there's a bit of lag..

also got told it spat out a nice flame on the dual carriageway too, which is pretty epic.

Thursday night, wet ground, wheelspins.

Steam from under the bonnet and behind the car, investigation in a pub car park showed that one of the plastic angled pipes that go through the bulkhead had split.

£2.50 for two bottles of volvic (only the best)

null_zpsbbed4ce9.jpg

a terrible set of pliers and a bodge linking the two pipes together meant we were back on the road. It has also meant that I basically freeze to death when I drive the car, which is nice.

someone also hit my mirror and broke that, so all is good at the moment!

wheel bearing still needs doing too.

Not sure which one you mean?

All fixed yesterday morning though which was lovely.

Ben also did the other front wheel bearing today, so no more rotational drumming noises \o/

Car needs a gasket change, just for a bit of variety! Probably going to try gasketless and paste this time, as it can't be any worse than the current situation.

To be fair though, for a big turbo car that's done 1000 miles since Monday and getting on for 2000 since the beginning of October, it doesn't do too bad.

still blowing gaskets coz of the nls?
I take it the mani or turbo were never faced flat?

Has done really well your car, puts up with alot of abuse and keepa on going. Better success than the kinds of builds that cost 2-3x as much.

they weren't mate.

was discussing this earlier, mine gets used as a daily, every day without fail and does a fair amount of miles so I can't really complain..

The motor is now gasketless. All happened last week after yet another gasket breaking situation, so it was decided that gasketless and paste was the way forward. 1 week on and so far all seems well. Car is a lot quieter without the nasty rasp of air being forced past the gasket.

It's taken a bit of thought, but for the sake of a better car in the long term, I'm going to be breaking the car tomorrow.. It's been in the pipeline for a while but I've not said too much until I had a date set. So I don't get in trouble for turning this into an ad, I won't list prices etc, but if you're after bits PM or text me.

Bits sold already.
Brembo's
Coilies
R32 RARB
Adjustable tie bars

Obvious bits available:

1.8t with large port head and forged rods, fitted just less than 20k ago
Backdraft mani, downpipe, tip and charge pipe
Large port inlet mani and throttle body

Ideally the above 3 would go as a complete setup but may split

3" exhaust and scorpion backbox
S3 front anti roll bar (ideal for fitting to fwd a3)
Double din centre console
Vent blank and boost gauge
S3 clocks with perfect dis
Welly cooler setup
Slam panel and rad
Facelift rear lights

Any other bits people are after let me know..

I'll go into a bit more detail in the week, for now I just want to get the parts shifted..

Ah no, gutted mate. :( as above, what you thinking of getting? At least you had the fastest a3 of the forum for a while ;)

And long time no speak, hope all else is well.

Gutted to hear you're breaking it mate :(

I'm sure the Double Denim Destroyer will always hold a special place in our hearts. I certainly liked it, trying to race it in the Megane was a good laugh too :racer:

Let us know what your new plans are! Been swayed by a TFSI after Bens ?

Ha, I love that name! Double denim destroyer :D

I'll never forget the time I took Jardo down to Bens one weekend.

Reesy was working on the Double Denim Destroyer, and Jardo rocked up like some sort of tribute act wearing full on Double denim top and jeans.

It was like the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object

I believe all of that story apart from "Reesy was working on the Double Denim Destroyer..." I'm pretty sure Reesy was always the tea-boy on his build.

But seriously, the denim is still cracking me up :D

Do we all think Reesy will be buying another 5 door?

No joke, Mods himself was outside on the spanners whilst Ben did an exhaust on the RS4. A rare sight indeed!
