So its almost time where I have saved enough money to go stage 2+ map and new clutch.
already got the following mods:

- TBE miltek
- Revo CAI
- Loba HPFP
- Weitec / KW lowering springs
- Revo stage 1
- EBC drilled and grooved disks with yellow stuff pads

So hardware I believe I am missing just the clutch?
i got about a £1000 budget what would people recommend?
any links? Will plan to get the job done just before Xmas :)

thanks guys

yes mate its full miltek :) and I know loba are good but also heard good things about Sachs?
I want something which will be durable and handle stage 2+ with ease :)

thanks for the input

Stage 2+ is extra 120 as you've got stage1 already so only need an upgrade really.

£120 sounds good thought I would have to pay for the full map!
before I go stage 2+ though I'm definatly going to do clutch first :)

just want to spend the money the right way and not spend it on something which is going to break easily

Thanks

I have a 550nm Sachs organic clutch (they also do a 600nm sintered metsl version) with a Loba SMF which I got from GNJ, one of the site sponsors. You also need to account for a new clutch release bearing, OEM part about £70ish

the Loba SMF really loud on idle?
not sure if I want to go down that route :/ much rather a quiet motor.
i also never track the car just like to launch every now and then for fun :)

It is a bit clattery, more so than OEM, and a little heavier on the clutch pedal. Then again, you don't get nothing for nothing and it puts the power and torque down solidly with no issues

starting to like the sound of a SMF, just a little concerned about the noise :/
any videos around which demonstrate what the noise levels are like? Can you hear it from outside the car aswell as inside the cabin?

Thanks for the replies
much appreciated

It's more noticeable when the engine's cold and you can hear it inside but it won't make a nose when the clutch it's engaged, only disengaged. When warm you won't really hear it. For stage 2+ power you can get away with a DMF but if you enjoy the odd launch a SMF is stronger.

Do you get vibrations when going WOT at 2000k revs in the higher gears with a SMF?

There is some vibration from 2000-2500 but more noticeable when slowing (engine coasting) than WOT. Got kind of used to it now

No problems here.

Mine rattles a bit a idle, but feels like a stock clutch when the car is moving.

Spec Stg3+....it's probably somewhat more than you'd want, and the Loba/SMF is a very good choice if you don't need something excessive.

where would be the best place to buy the Sachs clutch along with loba SMF?
I take Sachs clutch is the best one to get?

LOBA Motorsport Single Mass Flywheel and Sachs Clutch Conversion S3 8P (06-12) - GNJ Motorsport

550Nm version enough to handle stage 2+?

thanks guys

Release bearing which has been mentioned.

Ive put up a video of the clutch standard to this clutch kit on YouTube. Simple search with loba/sach smf will find it.

thanks for the video link mate, I will watch this later.
as for the oem release bearing oops sorry I missed that earlier.

does this need to be an upgrade part too? Or is the oem one as mentioned previously sufficient?

Hi Will, Don't forget your EuroJet Front Mount! and yes just the upgrade fee applies, that's another positive of Revo stage tuning! :sign_plug:

Revo/SRG Stage 2+ is fantastic, you'll love it. Where you getting it done? always feel free to get your local dealer to upload pictures of your car to their FaceBook page & tag me up. Revo Steve-W

hi Steve,

i didn't think the eurojet front mount was required for stage 2+?
and I am having the tuning done by GotBoost performance in Bridgend :)

Hi Will,

We would always advise to fit an Intercooler at anything Stage 2 upwards for the UK climate, warmer climates at Stage 1.

If you're in South Wales, don't forget the Open Day at Indigo GT (Revo South Wales) on November 23rd. Rolling Road day, CoV Meet and we will also be in attendance from Revo HQ with a car or 2. Looking to be a good day, already aware of around 60 cars in attendance!

Plenty of offers too, give Ryan and the boys a call for more information.

Hi Will

I have recently upgraded to Revo stage 2+ and would suggest an intercooler upgrade, because when you come on boost your intake temps will rocket with the standard intercooler and you will not be taking full advantage of the HP gains. I have the pro alloy version. Plus if you decide to take it further to a stage 3 or beyond then it will already be installed. It is a pricey install though as it takes about a day to do, and the air con will need re-gassing etc.

Good luck in your decision, you will love the upgrade.

Roughly how much was it all in Adz all in?

I paid about £5000 but I brought all the good stuff which would support the stage 3 that I am looking at at the moment. I believe that you get what you pay for and don't think it's that much for a 140 bhp gain, it has totally transformed the car and I like the fact that it still looks standard.
I hope this helps Mat
Any other questions give me a shout

Nah just an oem part will do. You probably won't need it doing, but for the 70quid it costs it's worth replacing with a brand new unit. Plus if you didn't replace it and it went, your talking a a lot of expensive replacing it, means practically a clutch out job again.

By the way, I heard you didn't need an intercooler too for stage 2+ especially being that England doesn't get warm... Ha. Although I have mine uprated, but only because I got it at a steal of a price which I couldn't refuse. And I mean seriously cheap :D

An intercooler isn't required, however if you wanted to make the most out of your cars re-map then it is preferable, once the car is running around 380-400bhp your intake temps will soar through the roof when on boost with a standard Intercooler thus dramatically reducing your cars power output. It really depends what your intentions are for the car are and if the power loss is a problem to you?

Hey mate,

Finally had the chance to check out the video, the chatter doesnt seem that bad at all until your under the bonnet? So i think i can handle that much :)

However i found another video, this one is seriously loud after a loba SMF upgrade too LINK --> LOBA SACHS NOISE-normal or not? - YouTube

I hope it doesnt sound like that :S

And as for the intercooler, think i will hold back on that until i save up again, although i might not even bother since i never do track and usually use the car to go back and fourth to work! Just like the power in my hand lol

Thanks for the comments guys

Strictly speaking you don't NEED it,but in hot conditions,or track use,it will make a difference, and if you plan to go beyond STg2+ it would be neccessary in any case.

Just re read my part about the intercooler, sounded rather cheeky, I do appologise if it came across that way. Really didn't mean it too.

i don't think the chatter is that bad, as I think the s3 engine taps normally anyway. There is an odd occasion where you can hear the chatter, like on a hill at a stop, but you just engage the clutch and let it out again and it goes away. The vibration through 2000rpm and 2500rpm, is the worst part in my opinion, but that's easily solved by the exhaust sound :D

I'll listened to that video later, at work at the moment.

In fact just listened, mine definitely isn't that bad, but you can't tell where around the car the video is being recorded. Plus there is two loba/sach clutch kit, that video also doesn't specify which clutch it is, the 550nm or 600nm. The 600nm I think has a sintered clutch plate, the chatter on that will be a lot worse than the 550nm organic one the majority of us have.

thanks for the reply mate, and yeah I think I have heard enough good reviews on the sach/loba setup :)
as soon as I get paid end of this month I think I will order the kit :)

thanks alot for the help guys really appreciate it

Just an update,

finally took the plunge and ordered my clutch! Had a great price from Graeme @ GNJ Motorsport
will need to get this fitted some time before Xmas hopefully!

when I get this fitted am I allowed to drive fast? Or must I wear it in? No boosting? Because that may be hard especially after getting revo stage 2+ same time!!

will

Bed it in before getting it mapped i would.. Opinions vary but I would drive it gentle for at least 500 miles. After that you could give it a bit more stick but no launches or hammering it with fast shifts. Also don't go WOT in 5th and 6th at low rpm as that will put strain on it as well, better to drop a cog and use less throttle than strain the new clutch

Thanks for the advice, I shall try my best to do so :) I have only ever done 1 launch from when owning the car so I can get over that, but driving gentle and no wot on motorway may be a little bit more difficult ^^

cheers

Just drop a gear and be light on throttle, with higher revs boost builds quick unless you really feather it. If you map it no doubt they may want to road test it to check its working right and to get settings correct. Would be best to have the clutch in a state to do that just in case.

You've got the same clutch as me. Sach/loba Smf. Should be fine to drive it hard. Just don't dump the clutch for a few hundred miles (drag racing style) Well that's what Statllers told me. They've fitted loads of them round my area. And mines still fine, coming up 10,000miles on the clutch.

awesome! I will speak to my mechanic about it anyways but we shall see, most likey be gentle with it anyways for about 300-500 miles no doubt I will have the urge to boot it though lol

Update.

finally had the Sachs/Loba SMF Kit fitted,

The bite on the clutch is amazing feels like it wants to just shoot off the line and thats without giving it high revs. (being gentle to run it in) also the chatter is close to nothing, not sure if it gets any louder/quieter after time. and the power in terms of delivery is excellent, the car genuinely feels different to drive! final answer LOVE IT!

After i have finished running this in, time to load the stage 2+ map and also pay for a new dyno run to see how much power it makes :)
Will be looking into engine mounts next i think, Ive also bought a 2nd hand set of coilovers to go on after xmas :)

Finally clocked 500 miles on the clutch, I know I said there's not much difference in pedal weight but I'm feeling it today since i have been sitting in a traffic jam on the way to work ( 45 minutes not even 1/2 way)!!!!

On the up side the clutch feels really good and solid seems to put the power down perfect for me :)
