My A3 8L Progress

We will have to arrange a meet and and a mini photoshoot one evening :p

Yes mate! Can get a few snaps at Prept also. Would like a rolling shot :)

Hey Pube I see your still making good progress, what seats did you have before you installed your heated ones? there just like mine but yours are Blue :)

An are you still selling the spacers? What have you replaced them with btw?

Hey buddy, yeah got a lot done recently. I had the checkered sport cloth seats, I still have them theyre on ebay for £40 at the moment just to get rid! Yeah I'm selling the spacers, somebody was interested but havn't heard back, are you after some then? I am running no spacers at the moment as there's no room for them at all as I've gone so low!

Ok, thanks for that.
the car is sick at the mo, lost first and second gear so just waiting to get all the parts together and fit a new box!!

Seats will be the first job to do when I get it back!

Hmm how low have you gone? I still have loads of room for spacers, have you considered rolling the arches? Have you had any knocking? since putting the TT arb on I've had no problems :)

I have removed the spring adjusters from the rear and wound the coilovers about 2cm from the bottom. I have no scraping issues but did notice if I turn hard right (at speed) I get a kind of knock knock knock knock from the passenger side... is this what yours did before you changed the ARB?

Yes exactly what I got but my knocking was coming from the drivers side but only when I turned left, I parked up and fully turned my wheel to the left I could actually see were everything was knocking there's no room what so ever in there try it yourself :p

Ah ha. Well that's another mystery solved. Looks like a TT Arb is on the cards, although it only does it if I really hammer it into a corner.. I dont fancy raising it tbh!

Got a new filter as my old s2k one looked filthy... however this time a horrendous green one turned up lol. Oh well!

Yeah I just had a peek on eGay but cheapest one is about £65 so going to wait till a bargain comes up, this one is near me but looks the same as the standard ARB so probably wouldnt solve my problemo: AUDI A3 SPORT 2001 BREAKING FRONT ANTI ROLL BAR | eBay

spray it black mate, it looks quite good black

Yes mate my old one was black/red but to be honest, I'm not going to be flashing the engine bay till I've got it all blinged up next summer so this will do for now :)

Very sketchy moments in a ridiculously tight multi story carpark in chelmsford but somehow didnt scrape!? Also been over several speed bumps with no scraping but the ride is very harsh... thats the price you pay I guess!

Pahahahaha, know your feeling. Mines the same, very sketchy car park.

There's a chap in Cambridge that's breaking 2 s3s at the moment mate, that's what I'm running on mine. His name is ed. If you buy one off him, let me know as I can collect it for you as I go past there most days

Its so bad!! Designed for cars from the 1930's.

That sounds good to me buddy thankyou. If you could get a price for me or perhaps PM me his details I'll get in touch :)

Maaan, the RS6 rim looks soooo good on the 8L... I had them on the first A3:

I'm rolling on the S4 rep these days but I think they may be a bit too angular for the 8L, seriously been thinking about going back!

Looks good I really like the colour. The S4 reps do look really good but I've always loved the rs6 rims.... and even more so the Fat 5's!

Cars looking good mate don't normally like rs6 wheels but yours really suites them I personally want sum s3 Avus wheels

Thanks dude... Mate, mineral grey, has to be the best colour the A3 came in! . . I've also always loved the RS6 rim, hence why I went for them first time round. I believe the S4 rims were Prawns choice to be fair (not that I'm knocking his taste!) Also, I think the phat 5-ness would look awesome in a big bold white! Dare to try it before me by any chance? . .

Jarod did have first dibs but seeing as he's now purchased an 8P he's deffo off the list, traitor! . . Although there's is some stiff competition out there:

You can have a go on my sister and my 17" avus wheels for the 18" reps? let me know if your interested:). Lol

What you got boy!? . .

Whats the situation with your suspension? Looks like you have removed rear adjusters aswel? What about ARB on front? You got a side on pic?

LM's are indeed well up there among my favourite rims, however I personally don't think they really suit the A3... I have been thinking about getting some smaller rims for winter/track though so I could well be interested in a cash deal. I'll PM you some more details over the next few days, maybe we can come to some sort of arrangement

The first shot is on Eibach's with the adjuster still in + a full interior and the second shot is on Weitec's with the adjuster out but no rear seats or spare wheel (believe it or not they are actually different cars) also currently running a H&R ARB up front... I think actual ride height really depends on the coilover kit as well, i don't think the Jamex coilovers I had previously would have sat that low with the lack on interior

Ah I see.. I did think they were the same car! I am running Jamex coilovers and ive still got a fair bit of thread left on the front.. I'd definitely be able to tuck the tyre and the rim lol.

Just bought a mk1 TT ARB to stop the funny noises. That'll be going on soon with a little (alot) of help from Munch ;)

ha ha! Yea, most coilovers allow a fair bit of slammage at the front. . . I'm running a 20mm spacer at the front but found the tyre occupationally clipped the arch when smashing it into round abouts so I've trimmed out the lip on the inside of the arch. A worth while mod if you're planning on going much lower IMO. Just watch out for that sump!

S4s look good on there.

Thanks mate, having just given the car a damn good clean I'm starting to think so again my self!

Mate if I ran 20mm spacers up front I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere! Put 20mm spacers on the rear and the arch just sat on the tyre lol!

Got myself a TT ARB on the way now so hopefully get that fitted soon then im dropping the front a little bit more. Then changing thermostat and getting a wheel refurbed (had an intimate session with the curb). Then thats it pretty much done. Unsure about getting it mapped on such a high mileage (150k).

Got a squeeky belt on start up... wears off after a few seconds.. is this most likely aux belt or cam belt? Also squeals if I go through a puddle!

To be fair the front wheels are ET45 as opposed to 35 on the rear. I'd imagine yours are all ET35, which'll give me 10mm extra to play with at the front (assuming your's are 8J that is). . . I did have a 15mm spacer on the rear but it did occasionally clip the arch and has f*cked it a bit, luckily my dads mate has a lathe in his garage (legend) so i got him to take 3mm off the spacers. . . Sits perfect now:

Mate, I really wouldn't worry about the high miles if I were you... I'm now on 156k and it's been mapped for about 70k of it's life. . . In fact this is my third mapped A3/S3 with 130k+ on the clocks among hundreds here on the forum with high miles and big power. Just keep up regular oil changes (about every 5k) with a decent oil and you should be sweet. Also ALWAYS make sure it's warmed up properly before you drive on boost, just remember the temp gauge actually lies and oil takes longer to warm up that coolant anyway.

yea, I'd imagine it's the AUX belt. I'd be worried if it was the cam belt! Just use some silicone spray on it, and I've actually heard that honey also does the trick... Don't take my word for that tho! lol

(p.s sorry, I will stop plastering your thread with pictures of my car one day! lol)

Lol don't worry about that I'm just glad people are taking an interest. Yes mine are 8J and ET35 so that would be the reason. I think I will get it running just how I want it before a remap (got a slight idle problem which I can't seem to fix). Just had a new thermostat put in. Also my TT ARB turned up so got to get that fitted first.

Am I right in thinking that my standard drop links will work with this ARB?

Hey Baz, yes buddy I sold them on the bay, got 40 quid for them with the bolts, only paid 29 from eBay just got to hunt around!

How well do 8Js fit on your A3 mate? Ive got a set of MOMO GTR alloys ET35 8Js im waiting to put on. Not sure if i would need spacers them though. What do you think? Cars looking damn nice by the way dude!

Hey mate. 8Js fit fine. They looked like they needed spacing before I slammed it and then they seemed to come right out to the edge of the arches which was a bit odd. The fronts may need a 5mm spacer to stop them hitting the inner arch on full lock but other than that... go for it. Thanks a lot :)

Replaced spark plugs and sorted my hunting idle issue by cleaning throttle body again but unplugged it and let it reset this time woohoo!

I hope they will look awesome and that I'll be able to pull them off! 18" 8.5J fronts, 9.5J rears. The rears look incredible with the concave on them...

That's some serious width!! Your going to need some tyre stretch and some serious lows! Then you shall pull them off :)

Too many pictures of my old car in this thread, makes I sad!

Car looks very well Pube man, Like it a lot :)

I miss having an A3 daily !

I love where your car sits Pube, I took your advice on board about AP coilovers but in the end decided on bilsteins with apex springs. Very nice looking car though, good job.
