Bit of moan as my self, rant at my self going a knob and expressing my annoyance with life.

They say it happens in 3 and today it did of different levels.

First, car failed the MOT on number plate lights, completely fault. Been doing to change them for weeks.
Failed on tyres as well. knew they was running low but never got found to checking.
All done now, new bulbs and tyres. Falken ZE912s. No idea of they are any good.

Second, cause the car was in for the MOT I cycled to and from work. Rode in with out any issues. On the way home the chain kept jumping, dropping off the cogs and generally mangling it self up. small issue but annoying cause its something else I need to fix but might be good time to fit a single cog to the front.

Third and final thing. when I picked the car up I had the bike rack on the roof. Drove on to town to meet the wife. She was running late so I thought I'd park up in the Mall's car park and meet her.
On my way in to the car park I heard this all might crash, look out the mirror to see my bike and half the bike rack bouncing on the road. (insert appropriate wording here)!!!!.

Picked up the bits of roof rack, bike rack and bike off the road. Stripped the bike done and put it all in the car.

I'm now left with lumps of metal and plastic in the front room from Thule roof rack and bike rack. Need to shift through it and see what is salvageable. Got a nice long dent on the roof and two shorter ones on the boot. The roof bar on the right seems fine, untouched and no issues.
The left one or near side is not so happy. it's all scuffed up where the plastic/rubber/metal of the roof bar feet rubbed a long it, the joining gap at the is bigger than before and at an angle plus the front bit where it bolts in to the roof now moves.
I'm hoping its just loose and not damaged the roof in anyway.

In short, always try and remember when you got a bike on your roof when entering a multi story car park.

Not good, I guess the only way in telling if you have damaged the roof would be to remove the head liner and check the bolts, the other issue you may get is water getting in through the loose roof rail.

That sucks mate.

An opportunity to remove the head lining to take a look at the roof - then retrim or fit a black one etc (my old s8 had a dark grey alcantara head lining and it was lovely!).

vinyl wrap the roof maybe?

Hope it's sorted easily. Take a deep breath...

Scott, sorry to hear this mate.I got the roof bars on the breaker, they are scuffed but straight if you need them.

Clearly the error here was the use of a bicycle!

Maybe you've snapped one of the mounts on the roof bar? Cant see how it could just go loose, those bolts are usually MEGA tight.

Forget Scott's issues, my b5 has a dark grey headlining and it's one of my favourite things. :)

Gutted about the damage though, found it whether it's bad or surface only?

That dint on your roof why not try using a GoPro suction mount to pull it out seen it done before !!!

I hope water don't get in.
If its still water tight I'll leave it for now and deal with it when the weather is better and I got more time to take the roof lining down.
The last thing I want to do is bend it.

I like the grey.
I had black in my BMW and I really liked it, make the cabin cosy but I like the feel of space in this one.

I did plasti dip the roof for a while, I'll keep it this colour just need to talk to a mate and try a few things to pop the dent out.

Cheers dude.
I'm debating whether I remove the bars fully if they or the roof is damaged.

I blame the car park for not having a better warning system. the warning is soon as you come round the corner and hit the warning.

How many bolts are there in the front?
If deffinutly loose, I can't see it being broken because there would be a lot more movement.

I like my grey headlining as well. :)

Went over the area with some rubber remover and T-cut and all the marks was removed.
The plastic end caps caused the marks and helped save the paint work.
so it all looks good at the moment, apart from the dent.
Plasti dip it !!!!!

Not again lol

Dent puller is an idea, so is dry ice and the upside down air blower.
Going by the videos on youtube.
I'll get in to work on monday and take it from there.
After this storm I might have a bit more to worry about than the dent on my roof.

Theres just one bolt at each "pillar" of the roof rail.

You dont need to remove the headlining though. Take the sun visor off, and remove the door seal and grab handle, and the A pillar trim cover, and you can gently fold back the lining to get at the front bolt. You can access the others similarly.
