Hi all,

my passenger headlight has started flickering, sometimes goes out completely for a few seconds then back on and flickering again.

i understand that this could be either the bulb or the ballast (electrical box thing).

does anyone know of an easy way of identifying if it's the bulb or ballast thats the issue to save me having to take the headlight out twice?

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate

Having experienced the same with my car in the past, I'll bet it's definitely the bulb. I spoke to many companies at the time and they all said change the bulb first. It's cheaper and solves the majority of flickering issues. I was told if the ballast fails that the bulb generally stays out or struggles to light up. Alistair

Thanks I'll a get a bulb ordered up

Im having the same issue on my audi. And almost 90% of the time I have been told its the bulb.

The easiest way to tell is if the unit is still emitting light even when it goes "dim" then its definitely the bulb.

If you get a bulb out warning on the dash that could be most of the time a blown bulb. In which case you wont get any light at all.

There is a bloke on our forums named T8ups. He sells the D1s bulbs Oem or uprated to 6000k which is a nice bright white. And is a lot cheaper than the retail products out there. As a D1s bulb is cost around 80-100 ea.

Just a thought

Had the same issue except mine would only flicker briefly. Got some 8000k D1S bulbs from T8ups as I was after the blue tinge.
