Lots of Big Turbo and High Power info!

can anyone tell how me much earlier the spool up is if using the 2008cc stroker kit with 9:1 CR is in compared to the standard S3 1.8t engine, im hoping to use a gt3071 turbo.

Quick question, im making a sleeper Audi A3 1.8t quattro, looking round the 350hp mark, does the big turbo for the s3 fit the Ko3s manifold? its a 2000 plate, looked about online and they usually say fits s3 but not 180bhp quattro? or fits FWD model?

This thread needs a bump, because we all need a bit of inspiration.

I've got some interesting questions about the use of T3/T4 turbo's, but wondered if anybody on here runs one? General consensus I think is that they are antiquated, but a lot of american cars run them and I was wondering why people don't use them over here?

Some inspirational pics -

i was told t3 and t25 are old hat. got a little flamed for even mentioning the use of a t3 from a cossie!!!
if youd have specified what turbos you had in mind then people wouldve advised and given constructive answers. Saying t3 and t25 means jack ****.

And refering back to that thread, yes those turbos are old not very big journal bearing units. But if you can get one cheap enough and willing to do the work, whos to say otherwise.
Technically ANYTHING can work

yes i shoulda said that more specificly..

T3 turbo with a comp.A/R of .42,the exh. housing A/R was .48 from a cossie, is that usable without to much pain for 300bhp

But still nothing wrong with the old T25 and T3. The still produce the goods

I dont believe I said there was anything wrong with them.
Old hat...

and in the context of the grumpy arsey poster who started a thread asking BT questions earlier this week before deleting his post in a huff.... there are many turbos out there....... Pick one ;)

I know you didn't Bill

T3 super60 was very popular over on vortex a few years ago...
cheap as chips and decent gains

journal bearing turbos get overlooked with the GT's but the bearing packs as std on GT's in my experience are fragile when they heat, which there is quite a lot of on a turbo, lol.. Plastic cages ***... what a stupid idea???!?!?!

anyhows.. turbo is just a component... its the rest of the bits to join it all together which will be the challenge (IF) someones looking to buy a kit, or if they have some skills to make their own stuff.. Huge saving to be made if so, and the worlds your oyster if you can make your own stuff to suit.

My 6262 is journal bearing, I was to scared to buy a ball bearing after reading about so many failures on vortex.

oil cooled only... but journal? is it?
their bearings are considered weaker than GTs............. which is why my gt35 is garrett but with uprated bearing cage and only precision comp wheel and cover

That is correct - also why I installed the turbo timer to let things cool down a bit more. You should see that sucka glow.

When it dies, will prob go tial vband, new cartidge and upgrade cage.

Thanks Olly P for all the useful information!
I've S3 BAM 225HP and I'd like to upgrade my car to 300 - 320hp.

Can you please give me some advices?

Thanks
