2013 Audi S3

Mine had landed in the uk and is going to be transported to the dealer this week ready for collection next week I hope!

If it's already in the country i'm pretty certain that you will be taking delivery next week! This is where the wait is the hardest IMO, when it's within reach it's a killer...

How long would the transport journey from Germany to Grimsby take anyone?

my dealer this morning said it takes them 3 days to turn around the car once it arrives at the garage.

what to people think of sat nav, a must in the S3? im looking to keep the car next to standard but dont want to cause issue come trade in.

The sat-nav would be negligible on a trade-in. Don't forget there isn't a huge outlay for a retrofit compared to most other OEM sat-nav installs as the hardware is already there as standard in all S3's. Currently it will cost 500 quid for the activation code and maps sd card. I'm sure as time goes by someone will find a work-around for the activation and cheap maps sd cards will show up on ebay etc lowering the cost further.

What build week was yours? I think mine should be getting built now although the salesman is on his hols and im working in the middle east for a while, so hoping i have a nice new car to come home too :).

Week 42, it's been a long wait

Hmm maybe my dealer was being a bit optimistic then, after he said the car is still in Germany i did pre empt delivery by saying "would it be around friday next week then?" To which he replied "well we could be looking early next week actually"

Either way, it's not exactly long now!

Just seen a black one at my local dealer. Cr@p weather and have to admit I had to do a double take to check of it was an S3. I think it needs a slightly bolder colour to stand out.
Proper q-car appeal though in the subtler colours.

Been told by the dealer today that mine should be built in about 3 weeks time with delivery likely to be in about 7-8 weeks. A lot better than the initial estimated delivery date of 17th March.

When placing an order for a new S3 via an Audi dealer, does one have to pay a deposit up front and if so what size....or do you just sign a purchase agreement? - I paid £1000, and stuck it on a credit card with points.

Also....does anyone know whether the engine in the new S3 is an interference engine...(will there be a huge bill if a belt goes)...assuming the engine uses belts....maybe there's a chain? - No idea I dont plan on servicing it and will keep it in warranty and with Audi servicing.

Would an S3 be happy running around as a regular short trip commute with occasional weekend blasts or does the engine need very regular blasts to stay happy? - I hope so thats all I am going to do, I think only diesels dislike to many short journeys

Is the Auto box likely to be more kind to the clutch than a manual or is clutch life unlikely to be an issue within 8 year ownership? - Depends how you drive it I guess, it should be better with computer managed clutch control being theorectically smoother. But then the DSG box wont be cheap if you have a problem. Over use of the launch control might kill it pretty quick I guess.

For those expecting anything other than a plastic black footrest, the attached is a picture from the brand new RS4 i have had for the last day or so.
I'd think that if a RS4 has black plastic rest, S3 will have too.
Thought I'd share.

Black plastic is standard fit as in my TTS.

it is really NOT an issue though guys :)

Just had a build week confirmed as 45!

Tried to call the dealer to see if I could change spec this morning, obviously I couldn't but I'm not too fussed. I organised to have him reduce my PCP figures so that I'm travelling 5,000 miles per year rather than 10,000. I'll let people know what savings I get by doing so!

Had my quotes through... For 6k and 10k miles - 6k miles only lowered monthly payments by ~£20

Depends on how long it takes to allocate to a ship; mine was about a week; then it can take upto 10 working days to get it from Grimsby to the dealer (I'm waiting for mine to be delivered now).

Cars come from Emden to Grimsby possibley on the Weser Highway or Ems Highway; these can be tracked on AIS marine traffic.

Interesting.

My dealer seemed pretty confident i'd be taking delivery next week, it was built on the 10th October, maybe he knows something i don't?

Try to upload some pics when you get it!

Had a look at the week-end at the new cars at the dealer; the latest A3s I could find were build week 38; so I hope mine will come this week. I am told it got to Grimsby the middle of last week.

Hi, I know it is a long time to wait for a car, however, with such a vehicle, would you want Audi to overproduce them and then just stack them up on a field or a old airfield runway? I remember Ford having hundreds of vehicles damaged because they were outside in the middle of a severe hailstorm. They were repaired and sold as new, again, would you want that?

Agree with that

Finance is a tricky one - depends on what you are comfortable with and what you intend at present to do with the vehicle at the end of the agreement - accepting that your decision may be different when you finally reach that date

ive not done pcp before so took a slightly risk adverse approach which meant that whatever I decide in 3 years wont be a bad decision

currently im thinking that ill trade the car in for a new audi in 3 years so Im paying a 12.5% depo to keep repayment to an acceptable level over 3 years with a value at the end of the 3 years where I should still have £3000 or so equity left. This will be the deposit or most of it on the next car. well that's the plan.

Just found this forum so my first post.
Now proud owner of new S3 Sportback which I picked up last Friday. Just happened to go into Audi dealer the previous Sunday to test drive a 184 TDI....but saw a new just delivered showroom launch model S3 SB 6-speed manual in the right colour (Monsoon Grey) with most of the spec I would order. So after some soul searching, I had to have it....to cut a long story short did a deal on the Tuesday (£2k off list price) and picked up 3 says later. Spent this weekend finding out just how it performs.......for those of you with a long time to wait for delivery, its all worth it.
Dealer reckons its one of the first S3 SB's on the road

lol, you have to laugh!!

"hi just popping down the shops to get some milk"

on return - "did you get the milk? well yes ahem a £35+ car"

my impulse buys are usually printers or the odd gadget, I feel like a mere mortal

suggestion - stay clear of Bentley dealers

Forgive me if this has been covered before.

The LED headlights on brokers sites are only £490 when bought with the Comfort pack

but on the Audi Configurator when both are selected there is no discount, is that an error?

yeh I noticed that too, but I think the brokers site is wrong - if it was 490 with 6% disc id have ordered the lights - at £750 less disc I didn't think they were worth it - I know its not a huge difference but you have to draw the line somewhere

I guess the brokers site is wrong but it makes more sense seeing as both options give you Light / rain sensor and Windscreen with grey tinted strip

nope , not do-able AFAIK...........think the quilted "super-sport" seats are black and that's yer lot........they offer very little in addition to the standard seat too, other than the stiching. I suspect, as do others, that Recaro's or similar will be held for the RS3 which is imminently going to be revealed.

i'm sticking with a standard S3 as oposed to the RS3 as I'm down-grading performance for a bit more compliance and civility :) but would've preferred a Recaro in my S3.

I guess the rs3 was a bit of an animal

Interesting that some people think that having 4WD on their S3 will mean their car suddenly develops amazing all weather ability! I've been driving cars with 4WD for a very long time, right back to my Integrale days then R32, S3's TT's S4 and RS4, etc. and believe me, yes you get good levels of traction on dry and especially the wet, but on greasy roads and in snow, on summer tyres, you still need to be careful, very careful. In fact in snow, my last S3 SB and then my TT RS were both pretty crap to be frank about it. OK, better than owning a BMW with rear wheel drive I suppose ...

agreed, you still only have 4 bits of rubber on the tarmac. amazes me too, just watch some pillocks on you tube - like one guy overtaking loads of vehicles then spinning out on a shallow bend. what a muppet

then again id rather have 4wd than rear wheel drive like the bmw m135i or my neighbours jag that spends almost the who winter in the driveway - pointless - rear wd is great on the track but useless on the road in bad weather

For some pictures of the new family member go to:

Not quite an impulse buy, my other half was with me and she was the one egging me on....always wanted an Audi S car. My brother thinks his BMW M135 is better though....discuss?

makes me laugh when people say the m135i is better - yes its quicker but that doesn't mean its better

bmw is ugly - I mean MEGA ugly, so ugly id rather have almost ANY other hot hatch

its rear wheel drive so itll spend most of winter on the driveway unless you love sliding all over the place - yes you can get winter tyres but theyre not much use for this country as they are really made for roads permanently covered in snow, which in this country equates to 1 week a year max

doesn't have as much kit

interior isn't as nice as the audi

prices are virtually same as an s3, though the dealer adds a 10% contribution so resale wont be as great either

s3 will hold its value better I reckon, time will tell

when I added a lot of the options I had on my s3 the bmw was a little more anyway so don't believe the carp from these so called expert journos!

only option bmw has that audi don't is the tailgate option - some plank tailgated me this morning is slow moving 20mph single file traffic - seriously felt like slamming my brakes on whilst I was in my 10 year old pug - he was so close I couldn't see his number plate - some idiots on the road - people like that deserve to be punched

this is nt true.

winter M+S tyres are designed to work well at temperatures of 7 deg C or lower.

this improves winter grip as well as increased performance in the wetter coldere conditions.

the standard fir continentals will not offer anything like a comparable winter tyre around 7deg C or lower.

The Perfect Shot - Porsche Carrera GTS Driving the Colorado Rockies - /DRIVEN - YouTube

winter tyres have mre sipes increasing water drainage as well as rippling grip on snow.##

please dont think a winter tyre is just for snow !

Nice video lecht rocks
Although I suspect that driver would be able to make most cars and conditions look good

Good comment through about the winter tyre being for bad conditions not just snow, really if the snow is bad you should have snow socks or chains on the wheels.

I think I'll just keep the normal tyres on and drive with caution when the car arrives in the winter. The quattro might be good but isnt it designed for spirited drives and not careful snow driving? Would be more suitable if there was a permenant all wheel option I guess.

Well the S3 is being built this week! It's been a long wait since ordering it at the end of June!!
Hopefully get it in about 2-3 weeks all being well. At least it's going to Grimsby Audi so I don't have to wait for it to be delivered to a dealer further away from the docs!!
Massively excited now :yahoo:

Cracking pictures as usual Bjorn; you're setting the standard for sure! I'll try my best to take a few good 'uns (only a little 60D though ;) ) if I ever get my car!

Speaking of which, I should be picking it up next week from Nottingham Audi! Makes me think my early week improvement from 41 to 39, which I was told back in June when I ordered, wasn't quite right as I would've expected to have it by now, but I suppose it's just added to the anticipation (trying to find a bright-side) :D

The car in FAN-TAS-TIC! More pictures to follow.
