50/50 haldex mod

Sorry bit of a mix up

facelifts should be a cir clip ( 2000 on )

pre facelift should be threaded insert ( 1999/2000 ish )

you will need to get under the car to find out
 
I'd like a switchable haldex from inside the dash, on or off. Can't be hard to wire the earth wire into the dash with a rocker switch. Call it the eco switch. :)

Would 50:50 be ok with minimul road use? Or would a switchable unit still be better?
 
Lets see what happens with this one first.. Jo, if you take your old haldex off, can I nick the wire? Saves me snipping my wire off again lol
 
I've come up with a new idea that's like the YHW insert and will be much cheaper to make

will be as cheap as £30 inc p&p the modified versions with a switch will be much more.

Looking forward to some test results. Might even be able to get a decent 4wd dyno graph with 50/50 haldex.

Nah, not if it's still electronically controlled. I've got the blue (so 50/50) and it still has a hissy fit on the dyno.

This will be a nice cheaper alternative to the blue/orange controllers. Just hope it doesn't bind up at low speed like the orange or the insert.

50/50 isn't good for are cars for everyday use, race and drag really


i do plan to make a simple mode that gives 70/30 split to save the diff and to make it better to drive at low speed

also looking into a simple under car adjuster one
 
Anything more for everyday use and there will be rear diffs sh!tting themselves all over the country. 60/40 at a push or 70/30 would be the winner i think.
 
So it's going to be locked at a ratio and no longer controlled?

it will still be controlled but it will run at say 70/30 then you will floor it and the haldex will take over giving you 50/50 then return back to 70/30

its a simple system hydraulic system with complicated electronics
 
A4 quattros dont have haldex..They have full time 4wd and a center diff.
 
Very very interesting stuff. So the insert will give a 70/30 split and when the haldex would usually engage there'll be a 50/50 split? If so I'm definitely interested in purchasing one when available!!

Unfortunately not Gops, I'm 90% sure it's a connector problem on my car(no comms on VCDS), and I want to keep the standard one as spare if the performance one decides to die on me.
 
At the risk of looking thick. Ive never understood how you can split power say 70:30 . How does it work? How are the rears doing anything if the frontw have more power to them. Probably obvious but id love to understand this. Also persumably if you went for a 50:50 insert the haldex would lose any control? Thanks guys, daz
 
Does anyone know what's going to happen to the haldex when its at 70/30 and you doing 140km/h.
I read the OEM setup turns off after 100km/h.
 
Surely if you have a 70:30 split this is causing the clutch plates in the haldex to continually slip, surely this will cause more wear?
 
SQS Racing sell these that get rid of the controller completely and can be fine adjusted from 50/50 down to 100/0

I sure they would mention the problems of having it set on full down to 70/30 etc

How to people go about the Haldex when fitting them into Mk1/2 Golfs and other car?

I know you can over heat the Haldex pump if you run them constantly for long periods of time, Keeping the Haldex oil cool is a good start when doing this
