So... Having been involved in an accident last week (not at fault!) I've been given a "equivalent vehicle" I was given the choices of a Toyota GT86 Petrol Auto, Merc C Class petrol Auto, pointed out I do 480 miles in 3 days so really need a diesel, only one available was a Volvo V40... Arrived on my drive last Friday with 700 or so miles on the clock. To my utter shame I had a Volvo driver "acknowledge" me.... Oh the shame.....!!!!

If no one has driven one of these, never be tempted to.
It has electric steering with zero feel at all! Whoever came up with the concept wants shooting.

Can't wait to get my beauty back!!

Currently awaiting to hear if anything else needs replacing after initial assessment of new wheel, 2 tyres, headlight unit, wing, bumper wheel repair and bonnet respray/repair.

Nigel, hope you don't fall off your sofa...

Good luck with all of the Ambulance chasing Lawyers that'll call you asking if you want to claim for injuries over the next 5 years. :(

Had one literally within 5hrs of the accident having just hung up the phone to the people who are dealing with it for me!

when my vxr was stolen, the "equivalent" vehicle they gave me was a Hyundai i10.... imagine how that felt, i thought they were joking when it turned up.. i had to cover my face when driving near home in case anybody recognized me in it.. also the back pain from the ridiculously small seats wasn't to nice either

I think that was their way of saying, they hate VXR's along with most other people...

Unless you wear tracksuit bottoms and a cap.:ninja:

Hey there not too bad!

I remember Vauxhall gave me a VX Adam for a week whilst they had my car in sorting stuff out, I didn't go out for that wheel in the car lol

Haha, know that feeling...the Volvo is mostly staying on the drive unless i really need to go somewhere!

Sounds about right, the Htundai i10 is an equal isn't it?

Haha!
I do hope it's no longer owned and a nicer car has been purchased since your ordeal...

He still has it! I spent 25 quid buying a complete driverside seatbelt and swopped it over last month! They fray due to a crap design of the B pillar trim. The stupid bumper markers are still blown, only one works, and it's still alive! haha 40k miles and counting.... :sadlike:

I think you're being very ungrateful. The insurance company has done you a massive favour; think how much more you will appreciate your Audi when you get it back.

Ha! I'm sure they are very helpful..

Unfortunately being built like a tank they have a habit of going on...and on!

Trust me, day 1 of it being on my drive let alone driving it I appreciated my Audi!

I had a similar thing happen, my a3 went off to the repair shop (fair enough it's pretty old, but at least it has some power in it) then on the truck that turned up.... a freaking entry model C3 with a 1 litre engine. that was fun on the motorway!

Ha yeah this isn't that bad compared to that, I'm fortunate that they give you an equivalent sized engine but the d3 I think is 130 and mines a 170.

probably better in terms of build quality to be fair.. i think they even made engine parts out of metal on the hyundai's instead of the low quality plastic vauxhall make the pistons out of

I had someone drive into the side of my Lupo GTI a number of years ago - they said they'd give me a Vauxhall Astra or equivalent but I asked for something smaller. The woman seemed surprised when I said that I'd prefer something like a Polo - "They're a lot smaller than an Astra, you know" ... yes, but still a lot bigger than my Lupo!

Unfortunately, I got given the most basic 1.0 Nissan Micra ever. I'd never hated driving until then.

Lupo GTi Vs Nissan Micra 1.0.

You win.

It was my own fault for requesting something smaller than an Astra though...

It could have been worse...

At least nissan make/made some half decent cars in their time.

I ended up with a ****** Daewoo Matiz in replacement for my 2000 Audi S3.....I drove the Matiz for less than 1/4 a mile before I took it back as it felt like it wasn't up to the job in taking 4 passengers + luggage over 300 miles! lol

Ended up with an Astra sxi that felt a lot more safer....I mean it went round corners faster than 10mph without the wheels screeching

I can beat you all! I had a 18 month old bmw 320d e90 saloon and got given a punto 1.3 elx because I was under 21!

I soon got rid and bought a cheap civic off my mate whilst mine was in for repair .

Are we just talking about courtesy cars whilst car was in for repair, or any courtesy car?

My one takes the biscuit! I took an Mitsubishi Evo 6 Extreme(one of only 50 made) for a clutch change up in Manchester, they gave me a clapped out Ford Fiesta 1.0 thing with 4 speed gearbox as a courtesy car! The gearbox didn't even center itself between gear changes, and I think it was on a C or E reg?

Ha that's awesome!

Made my slightly frustrating day a little bit more amusing!

Had a calls from claims company asking me how exactly was the rear wheel damaged? I don't know... I was too busy trying to avoid having a crash sat in the drivers seat to see it happen?!
So basically might not have a new wheel and 2 tyres and be left with a wheel and tyre that won't pass it's MOT test that it needs to have before it gets out on the road as it run out the Sunday of when I had the accident! (It was scheduled in for one on the Saturday!) so looks like I might be shelling out for 2 tyres and a new wheel... Awesome.

My dads new M5 went into get repaired and was given a 1L corsa he was so annoyed lol

I remember few years ago my brothers S4 was going in for repair after a carpark scrape.

He decided to try and ensure they'd give him a decent car as a replacement, rather than some crappy 1.0 corsa or similar, so when on the phone arranging things he told them he needed an equivalent saloon car, as he needed something that size for work.

Woman on the end of the phone taps the keyboard for a few seconds then says "Sir, you dont actually have business use on this policy, are you telling me you are using the car for business purposes?"

Whoops!

He luckily managed to fudge his way out of it and not end up with an angry insurance company, and got a toyota avensis diesel as his courtesy car.

I'm getting bored of this courtesy car and things just keep getting worse!

Got informed today that the Assessors won't agree that damage to a rear tyre and wheel was damaged in the crash even though it now won't pass it's MOT with Tyre in a fit state on current wheel and the wheel is too damaged a tyre fitter refused to put a new tyre on it! so I've just shelled out £159 for another wheel and tyre off fleabay to fit to it!

So glad my Assessors work in my favour!
