H7R bulbs are simply H7 bulbs with a protective sleeve so that when they are fitted to reflector head lamps the beam pattern is more concisely controlled in the upper part to reduce glare. I have two HIDs direct kits here with the shielded bulbs and they work extremely well in reflector headlamps.

BTW I would like two OEM kits rather than one of each.

Dave

OK Dave.

Would be awesome if well done supplied h7r lights. Which are designed for reflector housings and as a result get good reviews of good beam patterns and not as dazzling as the h7 bulbs.

Any chance you could ask for H7R's to be developed?

Well, HID's are supposed to be in projector lens's, however whenever you are blinded out there on the road by stupidly bright lights you can guarantee they have them in the reflector lens. They work fine in a reflector housing, however the beam pattern isnt great, and its stupidly bright for oncoming traffic. (lovely to sit behind though).

whichever way you do it, its technically going to be illegal unless retrofitting the complete kit including levellers auto washers etc etc, but still, until the police enforce fines for having HID's it will carry on. That and lots of people on here get extremely upset about people retrofitting HID kits but still, nothing they can do to stop you!
Deffo get projector lenses, end of day, autho mot fail, its not going to blind other drivers etc.
JJ

Thanks for the info. I really don't want to be blinding on-coming traffic -hence trying to find the best method to getting this done, and I dont have the cash at the moment for full auto-leveling systems. So I guess projector style lights will be the first part...

I wrote your name on the list, if you change your mind there is no problem.
Just to see how many people might be interested.
Thanks, count me in :)

I will deffinatly have a set, but im not sure which to choose?
Clearly i would prefer the cheaper option, but in reality bot the sets are going to have the same bulbs and be EXACTLY the same right? or would the OEM ballasts be a bit better in starting up or whatever?

Any input would be helpful! but put my name down with a ? for now! :p

I'm down for a set of well done 8P A3 H7 xenon bulbs/ballasts for my '13 (facelift).
BTW, another difference between the Wellsone Lights and the OEM lights is that the Wellsone ballasts fit INSIDE the headlamps. This is great when hiding it from your local dealership when doing warranty work. Mainly, because you don't have to drill any wholes.

The A3 Facelift in Europe needs a metal adaptor to fit the bulb in the OEM halogen headlight.
Please, confirm if your american A3 needs as well.

Is there any h4 hids that do low and hi? Need a set for a golf mk2

Not to my knowledge - factory ones do it with electro-mechanical shutters - if you think about it, the time for HIDs to reach full output would make it hard to do - by the time you got full power on main beam, you'd probably have to dip again.

A lot of OEM (and the dazzly ones you want) use halogen for the main beams to supplement the HIDs.

My OEM Mondeo HIDs were dip only, the mains were halogen.

My OEM Jag HIDs were bi-xenon for the outers - a shutter moved the beam, but the inners (main beam only) were halogen.

There certainly are H4 bi-xenon kits out there, they also use a solenoid driven mechanical shutter, I have installed two of them for friends, ebay specials as they were non canbus vehicles with no light warning systems. A quick search on Ebay will turn them up.

There are H4 "Bixenon" bulbs that make low & high beam with a magnetic system.

They are really fast changing from low to high beam if the bulb is already on. (similar to OEM systems)
If the bulb is off it takes some time to warm up the bulb until it gives the 100% light output.

One of the advantages of the Welldone H4 HID is that there is no battery harness, relays or extra cables.
You can plug the ballast into right into the H4 connector and it just works.

This cables to power the ballast from the H4 connector are sold by some companies for an extra £30, while you get it with the stock H4 Bixenon welldone kit.

The H4 HID kits other companies sell must be power from the battery which makes the installation more complicated & it may give bulb error in some cars dashboards. (since there is 0 consume on the headlight)

Hopefully it will sort out my crackling radio reception :)

Sure it will.

Since they don't have high voltage cables you should be able to get the same AM/FM quality you had before.

You have 2 options:

- HID in your actual headlights (H7, H9, H11....)
if you have the R8 LED headlights with H9 they will act as "Bixenon"

- HID headlights Xenon, Bixenon or Bixenon + LED

Is your AUDI A3 pre-facelift (2003-2009) or facelift (2010-2013) ?

Do you have OEM halogen headlight or did you replace them with some projector headlight?

Also do you reckon they will charge VAT for shipments outside of Europe (they shouldn't...)? I am in Australia :)

What are the main differences between OEM and A38P?

This is what i was asking, still waiting for an answer if there is one!
other than the price! :p

This was already replied in the first page.

The brightness will be aprox the same.
The OEM ballast gives the best quality which means:
- faster start up
- longer life & more reliable.
- more yellow - white color at the same ºK

As JJ.Foulds says.

There are 2 HID kits for the Audi A3 (both safe for the wiper motor):

- A38P: Made by Welldonehid
- OEM: Made by Valeo & modified by Welldonehid.

There are not really huge practical differences.
Both will work good on the A3 & offer the same amount of light output aprox.
An OEM Ballast will have higher quality, what means longer life, faster start up.

Better ballasts/oem seem to make the bulb burn harder/brighter so the bulb will look less blue and more white/yellow for a given temperature.

On another car of mine I have two same 5000k bulbs, but one is now bluer as I had to get a spare ballast to replace a broken one and it seems it's not as good quality.

Welldone ballast are good quality, that means they make the bulbs shine less blue than average or cheap HID kits.

6000ºk are usually pure white with a good quality ballast.

The Valeo ballast are even better so they make the bulbs shine more white/yellow.

As an example I can tell you that a 6000ºk bulb with the Valeo ballast (OEM HID kit) looks sightly yellow.

IMG_0740.JPG

(this pic is from AudiSport-iberica forums, it shows an early test on the OEM HID kit with a 6000ºk bulb, before the product was finished)
Captura%2520de%2520pantalla%25202013-01-17%2520a%2520la%2528s%2529%252012.54.41%2520a.m..png

As you can see the 6000ºk don't look blue at all.

Would it be possible to swap the bulb out for a 8000k for example? And it would work, or are hid's paired?
