RNSE screen lacquer worn off

The best way to describe this is to post a picture.

It looks like a previous owner has used some sort of abrasive cleaning product on the screen and it has worn away a coating. It looks really messy around the edge though so I want to know what I should use to try and get the rest off? I have no idea!

any abrasive compound should do it. I used some G3 to do mine about an hour ago lol. Then ordered a new stick on antiglare cover. £4.10 and used by other members on here.

it looked bloomin awful before I took the coating off so well worth the agro.

Hmm so I bought some Plast RX but it specifically states on the back "not for use on coated surfaces or LCD or navigational system displays"! So I'm a bit wary about using it. Is this just because it will take the coating off? (i.e. the coating which has already come off) or is it going to melt my screen or something!

Would feel more comfortable if someone else has actually used this on their rnse :S

Stop scaremongering, he's been advised correctly by several people who know about the product, IMMO it will work perfectly fine, takes a while to gently rub it of evenly, but is fine to use, based on someone with actual experience of doing this specific job multiple times.

they advise you not to use because it will rub the coating off a good unit. which is bad. but you WANT to rub the coating off, as its bad. so its doing exactly what you want it to.

Honestly I done mine as its like a new unit. Havent put the antiglare sticker on yet as havent had any issues with glare.

I did do this yesterday and it worked just fine. What pablo said is right about the warning on the back, it's just because it takes the coating off but that's what I wanted to do anyway of course. Looks a lot better now but I can imagine glare might be an issue, where did you get your sticker from?

You need to remove the screen & then the plastic surround, so you can do it properly or you end up with corners with the covering still showing.

may be stupid but what if cotton bud was used, could that prevent dismantle and still get happy results?

No, its not really suitable as would end up with excess liquid inside screen.

Got a dodgy bit of scuffed antiglare coating on mine so just ordered some PlastRX. Will give this a go and post up a before and after pic.

I didnt bother with the edges as its not noticeable on or off really. The difference it made to the main area of the screen though is night and day.

As promised here's some pics of my RNSE screen antiglare layer removal. Looks tons better now and very happy with the result. Took a couple of hours to remove the unit, disconnect the screen, remove the gloss surround bezel and carefully polish off the antiglare layer with the recommended Meguiars PlastRX. Thanks to posters above for the tips.
