Hi guys got a bit of a oil problem on my 2.0tdi bre 2007 a6. Car was taken to main dealer for service and investigation into coolant loss dealer did 1hour to find problem found nothing so said they can do a tpi 3hour strip down to look in the manifold to see if there was any signs of coolant been burnt, There was not happy days!!! Then they found that it was the egr cooler that was the problem so replaced that. Picked the car up to drive 150miles to work after 70miles check oil light came on so I put 500ml in carried on to work after a further 70ish miles light is on again so another 500ml. A week later after only driving the car 6miles per day I set off home (150miles) I managed 100miles light on again 500ml oil then another 60 miles but I didn't top up I only drove two half mile journeys with the light on then popped the bonnet removed the dip stick to colour the lower part white as I was having problems reading the level.
After a few hours re inserted it and started the car no low oil light came on!!!! The dipstick was saying oil was in the engine so I drove the car for 80miles till the light came on again this time I put 1000ml (I was fuming 5am on the m62 in the rain) to get me the rest of the way to work another 70miles then surprise surprise in came back on 1000ml in 70miles no trace of oil under car or around engine the car has ever lost oil until the service, tpi and egr cooler replacement please if anyone could shed any light on what's going on and what the dealer may have done to cause the rapid oil loss sorry it's a little long winded but any help will be appreciated thanks in advance guys.

White dipstick means water in the oil !! Are you also getting a white residue round the oil filler cap ?

Whilst the white residue on the dip indicates water in the oil if doesn't explain oil loss.

I suspect a pipe off maybe a breather or return pipe and the oil is being lost as a vapour

Thanks for the reply bald man I made the end of the dipstick white with a pen so I could see the oil level a little better. No white ion the filler cap either but there is some thick oil on the underside of the cap.
