Hi All, Loving my new car its really fab :)

I got a little prob the other night when driving home from work and on joining the motorway I got a very slight vibration seemed something like a misfire but very slight, after I drove the car for around 5 miles it was all fine.
Drove car to work again following day and from cold start there seemed a little stutter from the engine when I started to drive her on local roads no vibration at all only a very faint vibration felt when idling at traffic lights, motorway drive to work the perfect at all speeds. car parked at work for 9 hrs started her up got the little splutter again then within 2 miles I am joining motorway and immediately vibration can be felt for around 4 or 5 miles then everything perfect.

car was serviced last week before I had it and it also had new fuel filter, the symptoms to me feel like something to do with fueling, am I correct ?

Car is a A4 2.0TDI 140 BRE engine done 96K full history and had a remap done apparently its pushing out around 180.

the car is very quick I must say very impressed,

Anyone got any ideas on what it could be,

Thanks,

Si

Anyone please

Hej Dentsy

Sorry, no one has replied to your post. Am no expert am afraid, however, I know the BRE engine codes are not without their faults. Please follow this link and I hope it doesn't freak you out too much. Audi A4 B7 2005 - Car Review | Honest John I would recommend you take it to a good Audi indie garage and ask their advice and scan the engine for codes. They shouldn't charge you for this and it will take 5 minutes. Could be caused by quite a few things....but best to see what codes are coming up if any first.

Cheers

Hi, Many thanks for the response :)

Mine is a 2007 56 reg so I am reading that the later ones like mine don't have the fault with the balancer shaft, I did ring audi to see if my car had any outstanding re-calls on it and they said no and also that it had never been in for any re-calls.

anyone nr Newport south wales with a scanner for the codes ?

Car drove perfect last night with no stutter or vibration at all !

regards,

Si

That's good to hear you have the later model and you have checked for recalls too. Have you taken it out for a good blast on the motorway....I take you have the dpf and egr malarky...and I know those things don't like going slow.....a good blast and clear the sh#t sometimes.....also...this is a long shot but your engine bay is dry right? The water from the scuttle plate clears from holes under the battery and I think below the ABS....everything is dry there right? Other than that just get those codes read Mr.

Hi, Yes car regularly gets a good blast as I drive on the Motorway daily to work.
My car does not have a DPF :) I checked this with Audi before I bought it. I have sent an email now to Audi U.K to ask them if they can tell me if I have the newer gear pump fitted to my engine but don't know if they will know. Engine bay is bone dry and very clean no water holding anywhere or oil leaks. the only prob I do have is the reversing light switch has gone but that's a little job that can wait :)

Wife was going to buy one like mine on the weekend but now she is worried about this problem too!

His and hers Audi A4's ...well look at you! hahaha I had so much hassle from diesels ( not Audi's ) I changed to Petrol 2 cars back and not missing it....My personal opinion is that all post 2005 diesels are far too complicated for their own good....so much sh%t is added to reduce the emissions it's a recipe for disaster!....I have owned my petrol 2.0t since May 2012 and done 37,000kms and apart from the body rust the car has been more reliable than most cars I have owned....and up here they take some abuse!....I wouldn't let your experience put your Mrs off....you could get the same hassle from any diesel car and any brand! .....My only advice is be careful with Audi auto boxes.....want an automatic...Buy a Merc!....that's what my VAG mechanic told me! hahaha

Good Luck and keep us in the loop if you get those codes read.

Mmmmmmmmm yes they do !
This however is not symptomatic of what you are currently experiencing.

Sounds similar to what mine is doing. Which has now 99% put down to duff DMF. But couldn't see if yours was manual or auto. May be something completely different but it's an idea. When on warm up after around 3miles at standstill the car would start to vibrate and struggle to get away. Then feel underpowered. My mate has put this down to sticking DMF which he could get to fault on queue

Hi, why do I read that they don't as they have the geared pump/ shaft ?
filled car up this morning with V. power and also dropped in some diesel fuel additive, gave it a really good blast to work and tonight when coming home from work at initial start no stutter or judder at all smooth as silk on the motorway if I were really picky poss rear wheels may am a micro gram out of balance lol

i have a very sensitive *** lol

so what probs of the later ones have mate ?

si

Never thought about your issue could be your DMF as you have a petrol. Do you have feel the vibration more in first and second gear as you pull away? That's normally the tell tale sign the your Dual Mass Flywheel is wishing to depart from the land of the living. Not life threatening but will get worse through time....and it will be front end off clutch/flywheel belts etc....I drove for two years before my f@cked DMF was diagnosed....even the official dealer garage couldn't find the fault....and my wee indie garage did. It's an expensive job, so if that's the symptoms and you recently bought the car from a dealer ....take it back to them and have a chat.

Pm'd you symptoms of mine

Assume worn DMF on diesel would be same?

But it appears you may have pinpointed it to fuel issue

.... and had a remap done apparently its pushing out around 180.

Do you know who did the remap? Particularly if its recent, I'd take it back to them and tell them about the issues.

Hi, why do I read that they don't as they have the geared pump/ shaft ?

si

The hex drive shaft rounds off on the gear driven pumps resulting in loss of oil pressure, possible engine seizure and turbo going kaput.
Read the thread near the top of the page on 2.0 tdi oil pump/balance shafts , its all in there.
