Audi A3 1.8T 1998 AGU Build !!!

Thought i would De Wiper The Rear Window as well as it has never worked properly anyway and looks alot better without it. The Wiper motor was quite a mission to get out but you just got to keep wiggling it and it will come out thought i was gonna crack the back window but was all good in the end. Then just block off the pipe for the water jet and tuck it out the way and put a rubber grommet in the hole and its done. Reckon i will tiger seal the grommet in and maybe upgrade to a glass grommet some when.

Motor out and rubber grommet in.

Glass grommet.

And what it would look like with glass grommet.

During the process of putting the car back on the road i thought i would sort the manifold bolt out that was blowing i dont have any pics of the process but can just say that the manifold and turbo had to come off just to get to this one bolt. Got it all removed and put a new bolt in with thread lock and spring washers on all the bolts so hopefully this will prevent them coming loose in the future. Got it all put back on with all new gaskets on the manifold , down pipe and de cat.

Manifold Bolts with thread lock and spring washers on.

Managed to pick up some second hand R32 brakes for the rear off ebay for £185 delivered so just got to get the front set and some braided hoses and then will be installing them all at once.

Rear R32 Discs and Calipers.

all looking good mate.

On the rear brakes you will need a 6mm carrier spacer and longer bolts to fit your FWD rear beam.

For fronts, don't get R32 fronts, they're hugely expensive, hugely heavy, and not all that fantastic. Get yourself some LCR brembos instead. Far better, and cheaper replacement discs and pads also.

i was looking through this thread few hours ago only got to page two and had to go out..

just went through it all again and u have done a cracking job on the car and i was devod when i seen u crashed it but glad u fixed it back up...

job well done

Nice car mate & great mod thread for a3's I'd like to do a lot of the mods you have done in the engine nice to see all the progression.

*****in'! You'll be doing stoppies. If the fronts don't fit, make them fit. They NEED to be on ;)

Yeah should be stopping a bit better mate the fronts are fitted now with my 18" RS4 reps alloys just got to fit the rear tomorrow and will upload some pics of them all installed.

Managed to get the side skirt back on today with the good old trusty tiger seal only thing was the car has seemed to have got longer somehow after crashing it lol. I had to cut the ends off the side skirts otherwise they just would not got back on with out pulling the front wings out of place. I don't know why they would not fit properly because they were on there fine before maybe it was because i have not got genuine front wings now i don't know but there back on. I will have to melt some covers on the end of the skirts to cover where i have cut and then smooth in with some fiberglass/filler before it all gets sprayed. And need to get a little bit of side trim to finish it off as i lost mine in the crash.

Needed to change the top mounts on my front coilovers as i forgot to when i installed the coilovers. Only ended up buying standard ones at the moment because they come with the new bearings will upgrade to poly ones later on but these will do for now and they were only £15 for the standard top mounts and bearings compared to £40 for poly ones with out bearings.

I needed a new horn as mine was smashed in the crash so thought i would get something a bit louder this time as i could never hardly hear my horn over the sound of the engine/exhaust and my stereo and for £10 thought i would give them a go.

It is just surface rust the car has not been driven since i have installed the r32 brakes as i snapped one of the bleed nipples off so couldnt bleed them should be sorting that problem tomorrow and will take some more pics once i have drove a few miles. And i will be upgrading to brand new drilled and grooved discs and Ferodo pads soon.

Got round to doing a little bit more with the car today managed to fit the Jom Upper Front Strut Brace i have had sat in the garage for about a year. It was quite a mission to fit as i had to file down the strut brace to get the bonnet to close but got there in the end think it was just not made that well that why it didnt fit properly.

nice brake find, i also have the jom strut but didnt have to do any filing :/ it did however take me all day as i only had a cordless drill :(

Started to finish off putting the rear brakes on a few days ago and noticed that the passengers rear wheel was slighty towing in (i did notice it a little while ago but when the car was up on all 4 axle stands you could notice it even more) so thought it would either be a bent stub axle or bent axle beam. Got the stub axle off and had a look to see if it was bent and it was slightly so a new one would have to be ordered.

Slightly bent stub axle next to new stub axle.

New Rear Hub and Wheel Bearing installed. Thought i would change the other Stub Axle (£33 x 2) , ABS Sensor (£6 x 2) , Rear Hub and Wheel Bearing (£25 x 2) at the same time just for piece of mind so i know there done then and will not be giving me any problems only took pictures of one side though.

Has been a while since i have done or bought any thing for the car due to being away working going to a friends stag do in Amsterdam and going to his wedding a couple of weeks after the stag do so decided to buy my self a few little goodies. 1st on the list was some (Uprated Metal Drop Links £40) to go with the Uprated 25mm Front Anti Roll Bar.

Last edited by a moderator:
2nd on the list was some (Powerflex Rear Poly Bump Stops £26) for the rear shocks thought i would get some as i just put brand new Coilovers on and my old Bump Stops were all rotten.

Last edited by a moderator:
And lastly for now was some new (Rear Shock Top Mounts £20) thought i would purchase some of these seeming that i have basically replaced all the bushes on the car for piece of mind only standard bushes for now will be upgrading to Poly all round in the future.

I did buy some new standard (Rear Axle Bushes £20) as well but didnt need them in the end. As there was nothing wrong with the ones that were in there they were like new so they must of been changed some time in the cars life before i had it. Thought i would leave them for now as they would be a misson to get out and replace them in the future with Poly ones.

Went round to see a mate at Briken Motors the other day to have the front 25mm Anti Roll Bar installed with the uprated adjustable metal drop links thought it would be alot easier to install on some proper ramps instead of just on a driveway on axle stands lol.

Nice on, that is exactly what my car is missing at the moment, some front end solidarity (ARB bushes were changed earlier in the year). Getting my rear bushes done tomorrow....might see if my mate that runs the garage can source me an ARB while he's under it....and, this is embarrassing, I still haven't fitted that ****** decat I bought off you in January that's how little time I've had this year....that might go on tomorrow as well LOL.
