overheating problem can anyone help ?

Hi i own a 03 audi s3 8l (i only bought last night ). I drove the car home with no issue but today ,y temp gauge went sky high and my exhaust is starting to smoke really bad.. anyone any idea of the cause ? Thanks

I take it You must have lost water then too ? High temp and steam -

Normally would point to head gasket or a cracked head as the coolant is getting into the cylinders and being spat through your exhaust , a compression test will tell u .

Hi thanks for the reply ive had no loss of water ive also found a burst hose coming from a little plastic valve thats attached to the head (btw im not very technicsl minded sorry )

Water pump would be my suggestion... they have a habit of having the impeller break into pieces... should be changed at the same time as a cambelt really.. if yours hasn't then its most likely that...

The housing on the side of the head is around 12 quid from a dealer... its common for them to split... had one let go on the dyno before...
