Hi guys, need to clean my MAF but have hit a snag. The torx screws are five star security torx and I cannot find the tool anywhere! Halfords, bnq etc. any suggestions?

If you buy one of those bit sets from halfords or maplins, there will be this piece below,

It will undo the 5 point torx screws if you take it easy, like so.

Thanks both. Paul, I was hoping to not have to internet buy, but looks like I might have to!!

You could take a file/hacksaw to an expendable screwdriver to make something like Joe suggested although obviously a proper tool is preferable

<tuffty/>

The middle bit breaks off lol. Just pop a screw driver in and break it off

I only needed to take then out, replaced with other screws that was easier to remove! ;)

Interesting point...! As I have a Jetex and this MAF lasted all of 7 months, I can see myself doing this a lot...!

Honestly! Just remove it with what I've used above, its easy, the screws are not torqued up or anything, just take it easy on the first turn, then they just screw off.

You could also use a hacksaw blade to cut a slot in the top of the screw, then all you need is a flat screw driver :)

As with many things on this site, this thread is an education.
I didn't know of the five lobe torx drivers. So when I had my head under the bonnet of the wife's Golf, I looked at the MAF, and actually paid attention.
OMG, another tool!
And now I have to take care between the five and six lobe Torx (as well as the Allen keys), let alone the security bits.

Buying these sorts of bits is such a decision; since the holes and lobes have to be in the right place (I have a security T20 where the hole is offset and hence is useless) that you end up buying more expensive bits against the once a year use of one bit for the same task. And once it's been done, you can fit a less challenging screw head, and so the bit-set is even less useful. How to chose value over quality?

Joe you leg end. Worked a treat. No damage, can undo and put back the screws with no issue. Like you said, they're not torqued up at all and just need to be gentle.

Hasn't fixed my MAF though. Another trip to the delightful audi as it was an oem replacement. The returns policy on them is ridiculous!
