Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

Lmfao I'm on extremely strict instructions from the whole family not to fiddle/meddle/modify this car

There may be the odd little thing that gets deleted or tidied along the way....could really do with a spring breaking then can lower it a tad ;)

As it stands I think the jobs list for it looks like

Service
Cambelt as got no s/h
Probably engine mounts and dogbone as on 150k
Make sure turbo vanes aren't sticking as not 100% on its performance
Drivers window struggles to go up properly and sometimes needs a helping hand
Rear window wiper isn't working

Have payed a bit more attention to the juddering fault, which occurs when in a high gear loaded up and it mainly seems to occur between 1-2k and feels like the engine is bouncing around like a gooden, have listened to it whilst doing so and it sounds like the turbo is surging (might stick a cone filter on to confirm as hard to tell with the box) which combined with it being a bit flat above 3/3.5k has led me to believe that the turbine vanes could be stuck....what's your thoughts people as bit new to derv tech?

Besides the listed niggly issues I'm pretty impressed with it as since wed morning have done 190 miles in it and only just ever so slightly tipped past the 3/4 tank mark and haven't been driving overly cautious in it (very sensible compared to the s3 though as the devil in me just appears when sitting in that thing lol) all in all think will get over 600 miles to a tank without an issue which is 2.5 times more than the s3 :faint:

Stace get VCDS on that filthy beast. Bet it's got faults galore!

Done a full scan when I viewed it and it had no engine or drivetrain faults, 1 airbag fault, 1 central locking and 3 heating and aircon faults

Will have to try clearing them and seeing what comes back :)

Very few issues that can go wrong on a 1.9tdi Stace, sticky veins on the turbo, common for the age and mileage, caning it may clear it a little. Brake pedal switch, engine temp sensor and MAF sensor, which are all common problems throughout the golf4 platform cars to be honest.

Yeah hoping that it should be a pretty solid long term runner and am pretty familia with mk4 platform so hopefully should phase me to much and also got the bonus have got a few spares in the garage ;)

Jase have read that the juddering can be a symptom of cam wear :( other common possible causes have read can be DMF, egr, and possibly a dual pump of some nature.....hope it's the egr as plan on deleting that shortly :)

On another note I had a very strange experiance today on my home and made me feel like I was 18 again in a little 1.2 having a race in slow mo!

Played traffic light gp with a mondeo tdci titanium and was neck and neck right up until about 80mph (which seemed to take forever) till when I had to slow down to pull in behind him and we then carried on right up until just past 120 with me behind him but both very equal power wise, this continued on and off on the way home down my private runway that is ridiculously long to hit that speed in the derv

It was so weird as adrenaline was pumping but was almost a complete anticlimax when your hopping in the seat to try and make the car go faster lol

Need that map soon

Obviously the map is purely to gain better MPG Stace:eyebrows:. At least that's what your other half will think.

That's exactly what I have been preaching ;)

Was getting interrogated by half my family all at once (felt rather outnumbered) at my daughters 1st bday party on Sunday, and glad my uncle stuck up for me and said that gain economy on diesel maps, although for someone who is a petrol head he stoud back and avoided getting involved as much as possible and left me to the vultures lol

Stace i have a spare 1.9tdi lying round from my mates car, suspected knocking bottom end, but if you wanted the top end its yours. I might add that head to my porting jobs collection lol

If you give Stacey any engine parts his mrs will see you as his accomplice and cut your spuds off with a rusty bread knife!

Cheers Karl...now that's some forum man love for you :)

Haha that's brilliant but it did make Chloe chuckle as well! If it's for fault rectification I can get away with it but modification i would have to be mad and value my dangly bits far to much

With regards to mods I only said to Chloe don't you think it's sitting a bit high at the back to hear straight back if you think your lowering it you've got another thing coming lol

Check out that dudes TT diesel build for inspiration ;)

I see you also live in the hope your mrs will never find your build thread. Me too.

Yeah have been following that and hats off to the bloke he's doing something very different :)

I do think there's quite a big future in diesel tuning, look at l mans, I've also been reading a few diesel tuning threads (which I shouldn't be doing as is think a bit of knowledge could be dangerous) I have found a really interesting compound turbo diesel thread where iirc the car is over 400bhp with nearly 600ftlb out of a 1.9tdi :faint:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=367017&page=5

The mrs has read my thread a few times but think that's where have left it open on the laptop.....she did talk about creating an account before to comment on something....now that would be a leathal road I don't want to go down lol

stacey whats that big red air filter you are running, carnt seem to find the name/product code on here cheers.

It's a K&N, can't remember the product code but if you go on their site you can search under various styles and filter dimensions

Mines got a 6 inch neck due to running one of bills velocity stacks on the rs4 maf bit you can search for what ever size will suite your setup, also iirc price wasn't rediculous either :)

Time to start modding the Turbo Donkey

They not that slow ......................

Haha Darren that's mental, with a tuned derv like that you've only gotta concentrate on getting a good launch and get ahead a little as then can smoke the opposition out like your part of the wacky races lol

Well it didn't take long but the first fault has occurred with the golf!

Really glad I caught when I did as could of been another broken 02m to the collection

This afternoon I noticed a little bit of oil on the drive and after checking mine and her car I discovered my gearbox drain plug loose! This would have leaked out of mine last night or even earlier and have been doing 100miles + a day lately so am glad it hung on

I had 3/4 litre of gearbox oil on the shelf which is a result but has only got me to probably around 2/3's full but will be enough to get me to work and back tommorow followed by a top up tommorrow night

Who ever last done an oil change obviously didn't have the correct tool and used a cold chisel or punch

Good thing I've got a garage full of crap and vag bits lol

Borrowed both plugs with 14mm hex fittings off of an old broken box....result

Could have been catastrophic if hadn't of caught it! :)

Yeah got to admit it's the last thing I would have expected to have go wrong, but now the penny has dropped that I had thought I could smell oil burning a couple of times over the last few days but thought not to much of it

I really should of got a derv a long time ago, it's a strange feeling not filling up for over 500 miles, which is currently costing well under half the s3 in fuel costs

Plans weather wishful thinking or not for the S3 are to
Pull the motor and strip it looking for possible knock and oil pressure causes
Repair the gearbox
Strip it out including aircon, sub, seats etc to fund rest of work
Fit cage and 2 buckets
Change cams
Take back to bill for map adjustments
Thrash the tits off of it :)

I realistically don't expect I'll achieve all the goals due to time £££ and a partner that wants it scrapped lol

Am really having withdrawal symptoms from doing so many miles (lots lots more than I'm used to as will be around 700 this week) and not driving the S3 is soul destroying .....really need to reinstate her back into service or get some hope that'll be back stronger than ever ;)

Feel your pain dude... I really miss not driving mine... even though I use the Golf in the week, driving the S3 at the weekend and 'bring the beast to work' Friday is a nice balance...

In exactly the same boat bud as you know from our texts. About to join the diesel brigade and have same plans for my car as you.

I also have a fiancé who wants the car scrapped, a house to decorate, and a wedding to pay for. Feel your pain.

I think everyone who owns a house, has a car (that they are in to) and a wife/kids feels his pain.
Its kind of normal part of living in the real world away from mum and dad.

Pull your **** out of your fanny and deal with it.

Not sure you're entirely in the same situation so you can shut it ;)

What?
I'm trying to pay for a wedding, buy a house, fix a dieing 206, lack of storage for any car parts so they are scattered around the house (Found my old oil filler cap in sarah's mackup draw) and I got two dogs to feed.

Can I join in please...................no wait, I'll just shut up, man up and get on with it. :p

Peace :ninja:

Haha funny fukers I'm sure we all get grief and I've got a rather large set of balls ;) but I've probably pushed her a bit further than the average especially being pretty much on my 3rd of everything on this car now, including bottom end, head, turbo setup etc

Got the usual tension on the k26 build but the fact the car consumed any chance of a house deposit I think I probably have pushed her far to far and am not affraid to admit am currently treading on eggshells where the cars concerned :)

You dot have a fuel hungry car that you've thrown too much money at to sell and want to strip it to be a track car. You also don't do 100 miles a day. The car that you're "into" is your derv so no need to run 2 cars. So yeah you're not in same situation :moa:

This isnt fcn loose women. Dont care about life stories we want to see more of the S3 ripping it up ready for a track day in the not too distant future

Has she been out in it yet though?

She had driven it a couple of times but wouldn't have pushed it, she had been out with me and the little one but refused to with just me lol

So could say she hadn't experienced its potential ;)
