I've had my 04 BKD for a month now, it's on 91k and touchwood drives really well and the turbo is not making any funny noises but I have budgetted for this to go at some stage, especially now it's been remapped to 180bhp. I always let the turbo warm up and never go above 2000rpm until driving around 10 miles or so and always allow the turbo to cool down by keeping the revs low before turning it off. Hopefully this prolongs the life of mine. On my previous car (BMW 530d) the turbo blew but it was making the siren noise for around 12 months/20 thousand miles before it completely gave up. About a 1000 miles before it went the boost kept cutting in and out, it gave me a fair warning but from what I've read on the BKD's the turbos are quite weak and liable to go at any moment!
