From all the helpful posts it seems that my '07 2.0 TDi will very soon need a replacement turbo as its making the dreaded siren noise - please can you advise where I should get one from...I've seen good comments for Universal Turbos and for Midland Turbos. ??..all comments appreciated......please.

Sorry to hear this, out of interest what mileage? Is your engine a BKD? Standard or remapped?

It is a standard BKD engine on 89k miles....I bought it 18 months ago...within 3 days it blew all its oil....turned out to be the oil relief valve had seized :(...all was checked over, oil pipes replaced etc ...all seemed good, and the car responded well to a heavy right foot until
recently and now a faint noise...but increasing :(

I've had my 04 BKD for a month now, it's on 91k and touchwood drives really well and the turbo is not making any funny noises but I have budgetted for this to go at some stage, especially now it's been remapped to 180bhp. I always let the turbo warm up and never go above 2000rpm until driving around 10 miles or so and always allow the turbo to cool down by keeping the revs low before turning it off. Hopefully this prolongs the life of mine. On my previous car (BMW 530d) the turbo blew but it was making the siren noise for around 12 months/20 thousand miles before it completely gave up. About a 1000 miles before it went the boost kept cutting in and out, it gave me a fair warning but from what I've read on the BKD's the turbos are quite weak and liable to go at any moment!

Thanks for the comments.....car still pulls like a train so maybe I have a bit of time to save up the £750+. I am careful to allow for warm up and cooling, maybe not enough though. Yes, does seem to be a BKD genetic fault !

Been told mine has got about 40-50k left, whistles a little bit. Just gotta keep an eye on it.

Not sure, took the car in to the garage I use after buying it just to get it all checked out and specced for a remap. They said the turbo wouldn't handle the map for very long, can't remember what he said was wrong.

One thing I have noticed on mine is a sudden dip in power, as if the turbo is cutting out for a brief moment.
