Hi, quite excited by this and looking forward to driving a prestige car. I've always had Fords and my present one will be a hard act to follow as far as performance, handling and dynamics are concerned but I hope I will be surprised by the Saloon. It will be a 2.0l diesel but I don't know which model yet. I might just post up some pics as well...

Sounds like a fun day ahead. Yes post pics if you can. Im sure you wont be disappointed in the car. Enjoy. :) x

Hi, been and done it now, sorry forgot completely to take any pictures.

The car I drove was a 2.0l diesel Sport, but had 18" wheels, the SD nav, HID's and a sunroof. After not driving a diesel for some two years now it reminded me of certain traits that the engine has, and one I dialled out of my previous car by having a remap, so I think this particular diesel isn't the one I want for now. The car also felt less fun to drive than my present one does, whether it was because of the heavy lump at the front or less precise steering I'm not sure. Probably it was because my present car has about 192ps to play with. Other than that I was quite impressed in the drive, although the ride was harder than my current car which also has 18" wheel but a lower profile tyre.

The brakes were the most impressive, I though mine were good but these, blimey, my forehead nearly hit the screen ;-) All in all it was a good car but the decision remains, was it good enough to justify an extra £8000 over what my present vehicle would cost new, which comes with more equipment as standard.

The answer has to be yes, sitting inside the saloon felt a like real quality. The switchgear and all of fabrics were of a higher level than any car I have driven to date and that made it worth it alone. But also, even though the dimensions are the same as my car, it felt like there was much more room inside too. Now all I have to do is wait for Audi to bring over the right engine/gearbox combination and in six months time I will be scribbling my signature on a order form...

What is the "right" engine/gearbox combination?

Hi, something with about 140-180ps, a manual box and low co2. I would take the 1.8 petrol at a pinch but, like the 1.4, it comes with the DSG box here at the moment which I do not wish too have...

Really? Are you sure you're looking at the latest brochure? I have a 1.8T manual as I too dislike the DSG box. Mine was apparently one of the first in the UK.

Yes I think you are confusing your car with a saloon I was test driving..

Interesting, just had a play on the configurator and see that the Saloon only comes in manual form with a diesel engine at present, which I assume is what you were referring to. I wonder why Audi do this?

Can't believe u never took any pics ...
I don't know why these demonstrators don't have the 19" alloys as that's what I'd spec.
Personally I love the look and if the boot space is good il be buying one next year loaded as the sportback isn't exciting me this year :)
How was the sunroof btw?
Expensive add on but a glacier white it looks the nuts :)

Edit : and yes hopefully audi make it auto diesel at somepoint :)

Yes I'm sorry about the pictures, I completely forgot. As far as I am concerned a sunroof is a sunroof and something I could do without. I also would not have 19" wheels as the ride would be far too hard even with the sport suspension. Trouble is we may never see all of the options other countries are getting because of the low sales volume in the UK...
