I'm sorry if this has been covered but I'm getting really confused now

I'm desperately looking for a 5 door A3 black edition. I have seen several on the net but they are all different in the pictures. Some have twin Crome exhaust some don't, some have the flat bottom steering wheel and some have different wheels.

What should I look for in a picture that proves it's a black edition?

Thanks
Phil

Can you narrow things down a little as black editions have changed with build years. If you can state which years you are looking at that would help.
also engine type as petrol and diesels have had different exhaust tips over the models.
good luck.

Flat Bottom steering wheel is the main give away. Tinted windows, Piano Black Inlays and Black front grille are part of the Black Edition package too. There are a few other bits too but these are the main ones.

Sorry should have said. I'm looking no more than 3 years old, diesel with the S - Tronic gear box, but that's not a deal killer.
I looked at one last week but it wasn't a proper black edition, 3rd party tins and no S Line seats

I did see one with an S - Line steering wheel but it didn't have the flat bottom wheel or badges on the side. It was listed as an black edition.

I have a black edition but steering wheel isn't flat bottomed... for whatever reason it's not compatible when you choose the Exclusive Line Pack:
Exclusive line pack - A3 Black edition includes:

  • Black carpets
  • All black dashboard
  • Black cloth headlining
  • Two tone fine nappa leather upholstery
  • Black door trim inserts
  • Audi exclusive door sill trims
  • Black floor mats with coloured piping
  • Colour coded stitching to steering wheel, headrest and gear lever gaiter

These guys usually have black editions in. None at the moment only Slines

Oakwoodmotorcompany or topcarsales (Google them both)

On 2010 plates a black edition should have

Titanium wheels
Black headlining
Flat bottomed MFSW
Bose
Xenons
sline half leather seats
Black piano inlays in the doors

Single exhaust is usually 105 or 140 BHP tdi
Twin pipes are the 170 tdi or 1.8t 160 BHP or 2.0T 200 BHP

They are all badged up as Slines on the wings.

A true Sline will have silver 6 spoke alloys and lesser kit. Have a look at the two Slines oakwoodmotorcompany have up for sale which are both 10 plates.

I have a late 2009 S3 and mines a BE... It has:

Black Front Grill
Flat Bottom Steering Wheel
Piano Black Inserts
Tinted Rear and Side Windows

Although the front windows have been tinted too a slightly lighted gradient than the rear so that it all blends nicely... looks mean!

Do some early 140 BE's have twin pipes? Mines a 59 plate with twin pipes?

Not sure it's just BE's. I know someone who has a 58 plate S-Line 140 with twin pipes.

My 140's got the twin pipes and it's not a BE(58 reg)

My black edition is a 138bhp has twin pipes aswell on a 09 plate.I think they changed them mid 2010 when the wing mirrors went a bit smaller

The 140's changed to 1 exhaust around Sept 2010. Basically if it's stop start and £30 tax it will have 1 exhaust and the newer alloys.

Not quite true.
Mine's a 10 plate Black Edition with the titanium RS4's and has stop start. It has the single exhaust but not the rota's. Also £30 a year road tax.

My 10 plate BE had the following as standard:

Half leather S Line embossed seats (some may be upgraded to full leather though)
Flat bottom multifunction steering wheel
Piano black inserts
Bose
LED DRL's
Xenon+ headlights
Tinted windows
Black front grille and fog surrounds
Titanium RS4 alloys

All BE's will have the ones in bold. The other items may be different depending on year.
I was under the impression Bose was standard as it was on every BE I saw, but maybe not according a post further up so I haven't put it in bold.

I frikkin love my BE :p

Oh yea good point. The above is true of the 170, new wheels means it's stop start and low tax but Yea, forgot the 140,s went stop start earlier in the year. The single exhaust does mean atop start version though

Anyone on here had any experience converting a stop start/single exhaust into a twin? Just wondered how big a job it would be, cost etc. I think I would need a new valance and the honeycomb bit in the middle which is separate I think.
Is it easy enough to remove the single and fit new twin valance?
After that it would just be a case of go to an exhaust specialist and let them do their work, but I'm not sure how difficult the first part may be?

Also a quick question for Phil, from your avatar it looks like you got your car from Airedale near Bradford, just wondering how you found them to deal with, service etc as I'm looking at a car from there plus one or two others.

Cheers
Scott

Would you be better looking for a 170 BE quattro. Ours is on Audi www but private sale possible.

I'd thought about the quattro but they seem a bit heavier on fuel and not really sure I need 4WD.....but how much you looking for and what plate, mileage etc. is it the black one in your avatar?

Fwd is pants . Once you have had quattro you will be hooked!

Just out of interest, did you mean yours was being sold via Audi UK? I'd be interested to know how that works, although I don't have any plans to sell for a while yet :sm4:

I have a great relationship with my local dealer! They photo and advertise and agree a price. Trade on ours was £x. Advertised at £x +5k sold for £x+4k we were paid £x+2.7k. Balance covers Audi selling costs 2 free services and marginal VAT. Have done it 3 times now. Need to hold your nerve but works.. just have to wait 7 weeks for new car now!!

That's awesome, I wonder if my local would do the same sort of thing... doubt it!

I guess it was on their forecourt the whole time?

Nope... never went on the forecourt at all. Photographed... carried on using it.. upped the mileage a bit.. had a call with the offer.. took car to dealer... sold! It was absolutely spotless!
