I am in the process of reapplying for the hgv, letting my license lapse because of going in doors to work. Now its been lapsed since i was 45, first medical.

Now at the time i have not driven a hgv in 12 years, Question, has any one on here returned to hgv 1 after a short/ long spell, how did you get on, working short hours like 8 a day to returning to 8/12/?

I thought what i doing was right, (going in doors) in the my mind i knew it was not, but kept on finding, or other people found reason for me stay in doors.

I have a small health issue, like many arthur is giving me pain, so come on who has done this, gone back to driving.

Depends on previous experience? You have someone who will take you on? As you may not of touched it in 12 years, they may be reluctant to take you on, maybe due to fade in HGV driving. I'm due to go into it (Maybe)

Also depends if you enjoy it.

I all ways enjoyed the work, but this 12 years may be the same a new driver who has only just passed their test. Its got to worth the 70 notes to get it. May do a refresher drive with the local school.

A lot of HGV companies will take people on experience most of the time. Other than brand new out the factory drivers. As C +E license covers Arctic's and a lot of people may of passed just normal LGV with trailer which quals them for C+E as its over a certain length.

I'd advise getting a refresher thats for sure, then out yourself forward to some companies, and see what you get :)!

Though... You may have to start from LGV and work up to HGV depending. Unless you feel confident going straight into a HGV.

Oh i am not short on experience, i have had driven for 13 years before, just need to brush up on the new laws, and as said a practice.

Thank you, you have given me hope

Sounds like you know what you're doing, yeah brush up, not only on new laws, also on getting behind the wheel of the big HGV, when going for a job, make sure you make them aware of previous experience.

The UK as a whole are down in HGV drivers, so the likelihood of getting one is quite high with previous 13 years experience.

If you do refreshers hopefully you'll get something to say you have, make sure you present that too! You'll be in for a win.

dont forget you also need to do the CPC by 2014 cant rember month
id also take a refresher as 12 year out the job is a long time
and with arthur on class 1 iv never really done less than a 14 hour shift in artic maybe rigid you get the 8/10 hour shift.
but good luck if you get back into it
and get youself a drivers taco card as the old taco is more or less gone in the newer lorrys.

Yep read into the cpc, more of a course than anything, and some local companies are sitting for you, obviously there would be some sort of deal to it.

Some of the drivers i grew up with are still in the game, some health worst than mine, meaning they move a lot slower, the digi tach yep that is a new one there.

the CPC is 35 hours spread over 5 days 7 per course
you have to be at a company for so long before they give them free
its around £80 + a time
the digi is a fukker aswell very strict and they can have you for 6 mth before
where are you based i have quite a list of contacts from class 2 / 1 multi drop trunking etc etc
