Right phoned Glasgow Audi about the dsg recall from the vosa website and they don't know anything about it and when I questioned them about the software update they don't know anything about that to, even when I gave them the tpi number and the software disc part number so they want to get the car in for a £90/hour diagnostic check only to tell me there is no update as they have no idea.

Waste of a call but what would you expect.
 
Anyone tell me if this needs an update? Seems to not be on par with the content posted in this thread...

I suppose the update is free but will add that the dsg flash from HPA is one of the best mods for the 3.2 . Marcel is a genius at HPA and works closely with audi ag. Just my 0.02
 
Over the last few months the car started to run really rough when coming to a stop. Symptoms were like a misfire with the car feeling like its juddering. Even when selcting N or P when stationary it didn't make a difference. 2 weeks ago it broke down and the RAC took it to a local garage who replaced the MAF sensor and spark plugs. Fault codes were also present for a number of the coil packs but I said I could get Audi to replace these due to an outstanding recall on my car. I booked it in with Walton Audi for today but yesterday it broke down with the same issues. Engine cuts out, try to start and it runs for a few seconds before cutting out again. Revs can be held by introducing the throttle but it then is virtually impossible to engage drive. RAC ended up towing me to Walton Audi yesterday and they've had it since. They informed me that my transmission is s-tronic not dsg and that the software update code is not applicable to my transmission. Is this correct? They replaced 3 coil packs but the engine still runs rough and cuts out after a few seconds of starting. I'm going out of my mind with worry as I've given them the nod to do further investigation works yet neither them noe myself know what the problem is. To confirm, my car is a 2004 A3 3.2 Quattro Sport s-tronic. My gear selector looks like this if it helps to confirm:

Gee man, that sucks! I feel for you, but don't have any specific advice to give you, other than asking this question to clear things up:

What gearbox software update did you get? The HPA DSG flash suggested above, or did it come with the Audi-update you requested them to carry out to remedy the 2000rpm issue?

The software update hasn't been done yet so I'm assuming the car currently has whatever version it cam with as standard. I'm asking for update 2010289/3 to be carried out and waiting to hear from them.
 
Update. Worst case, the car needs cam chains, cam chain tensioners and a whole load of other bits'n'bobs totalling £1532 which includes 5.5hrs of a techs time! Apparently the tenisioners come in a kit of parts which include new chains etc. Bu66er!
 
OUCH!

But on the other hand: that's fairly cheap for a cam chain replacement!
 
Sorry to hear that m8, that's another 3.2 with chain issues to add to the list. For chains though that's not a bad price, mine came to £3200
Don't forget to get them to do the update foc while its in!
 
Update - Had the car back now for a week and it's been running great. Final bill was £1150.12 which covered cam chains, cam chain tensioners, crank shaft position sensors and a tonne of other bits which made for a full 2 page list. I was charged 3.5hrs for the entire 2 weeks they had the car which was decent of them as they ended up spending 19hrs in total trying to sort everthing out! Had an A5 Coupe 2ltr TFSI Sline Black Edition as a courtesy car which was nice! Now contemplating whether to keep the car or look for something else and chop it in!!! Problem is it's soooo nice to drive but I'm still paranoid every time I drive it when coming to a stop and expecting it to start playing up again! Maybe I'm just being silly and should enjoy the ****** thing!

Sorry for bringing this thread back up, but did not want to start a new thread.

I have a 2005 05 Facelift 3.2 DSG, I did my research before buying and noted the 1800 RPM fluctuation and unable to hold he rev without feeling and hearing the missfire. Also the 5200 RPM to 5600 RPM flat spot / hesitation before pulling keenly to the red line. The car showed both of these on the test drive, but due to thinking it should be an easy fix, I took the chance did a deal and drove away.

The following day the car was booked into the VW specialist, Volksautos, armed with TPI number and original details from this site, I asked them to install the software and look over the car.

So copying from this site - I gave him these details:

I have been made aware that there is a possible issue with the engine management system and that a software update for the ECU has been issued for this engine.

The TPI number is 2010289/3 (it also worded gearbox judder poor acceleration when changing gears at high revs)

The SVM code for the update is 8P01A005

CD UPDATE DISC 4F0 906 961 N

[FONT=Calibri, sans-serif]Unfortunately my car would not accept the software, the garage kept me up to date all the time, but the CD would not copy across the file, so they spoke to AUDI techincal who said as expected there is no update for this car and this update is manual only. They tried again this time with a new file from germany which came one day later, again no avail, it would not load it on to the car.

Knowing this site had more info, I sent the other information in this thread, I won't cut and paste as it is on page 2 post 74 from the german site. Now for my model it does have reference points and notes Component - [/FONT]022,906,032 GJ: 8P DSG (BMJ): 8036[FONT=Calibri, sans-serif]

The Specialist, who I do not doubt their ability, they come recommended and I have used them before on many occasions for previous VAG product, but they noted the CD number is the same for both updates, so they are keeping the car for a 3rd day while they wait for AUDI to see if they can find any new updates, they have sent them chassis numbers, all info from the ECU and anything else they need.

So my question is, does anyone know 100% the correct Software / TPI / CD P/N for a 2005 05 Facelift 3.2 DSG? Any help is really appreciated

I have a manual 3.2 I had a update but before the tech did it he said my ecu might not accept it but he wouldn't know until he tried otherwise I would have had to buy a new ecu for £800 .
 
Many thanks to all those contributing to this thread.

After four visits to two garages, I googled the phrase "Audi A3 3.2 hesitation" and this thread popped up.

It describes our symptoms perfectly:
- Hesitation under light/modest acceleration.
- Feels like misfire but isn't.
- Still present but less noticeable under hard acceleration.
- Smooth everywhere else.
- No rattles / marbles under the bonnet.
- Steady revs in P c2000-3000rpm (not a timing chain problem)


VCDS confirmed the Motronic version number was old and no Audi update had been applied.

Seems too easy. A software update!? More hopeful than convinced, I decided to try this ECU update before spending £££s on more mechanical stuff.

Sure enough it worked a treat. Hesitation completely cured. The car now drives beautifully. No-one got their hands dirty.

Dependant on the mileage check the DSG oil has been changed at 40k/80k along with the haldex oil.

Check that the gear changes are silky smooth (particularly when putting into drive / sport and pulling away). Also check that you can hold the revs steadily when in neutral at 1800ish revs and also check for hesitation when accelerating moderately, again at around the 1800rpm mark... the hesitation issue can be resolved by a software update. DSG issues can cost considerably more to resolve...
