Has anyone ever used chips away or the like, if so good or bad experiences?, some dildo in an old lexus has scuffed my 3 month old paint work and removed some laquer so it wont polish out:aggressive: .

thanks in advance.

It can be hit or miss with Chips Away. Some of them are ex-bodyshop guys that really know what they're doing, others aren't. It really depends on who has the franchise in your area.

I used chips away on my tt as yourself some tit took the laquer of my front bumper reverse parking. Chips away had it done within an hour to while I was at work! So I give them a thumbs up:icon_thumright:

Personnaly i wouldnt let a chips away person near my car.

Thats just my opinion though after the countless number of cars i've detailed that have had chips away work done, pretty poor in my eyes as they are always mega orange peely which robs the paint of any real clarity and it is quite often alot softer than the rest of the cars clear coat...

Cheers Clark, I think I'll stay clear then & find a good bodyshop instead:icon_thumright:

last night i discovered a chipsaway place 2 mins away from me and today i was going to get a quote off them to respray my front bumper and repair minor scratches in the rear. I wont bother now. so thanks for the advice Clark.
if you know any good bodywork shops in the northwest let me knoe, im in the preston area
thanks

Lee

they ruined my mums front wing, had a minro scratch, ended up with a dull rough finish which rusted in a few weeks, still not sorted!

VERY happy with the work the Chipsaway guy did to my car. He spent near enough the whole day fixing up chips all over the car and got rid of the screwholes on my dashboard for a good price.
Some of them are not perfect as they had been previously touched up with the wrong sort of paint, so when he started rubbing them back the old paint (which appeared to be some sort of acrylic) started to show back through.

It seems the front and back bumpers on my car have been blown in at some point, and its not the best of jobs on close inspection

I wondered about chips aware of alike to see if they'd paint them, not sure really, any idea of cost?

If not will have to take to body shop I think!

Sorry to bump an old thread but I've just had work done today on a scuff by ChipsAway, Aberdeen branch. The repair was shockingly bad, I never paid for it! It was only a small scuff but now half my bumper looks dull and full of orange peel.

Avoid!!!

Just to add.... Sh*te

It's the trade where unfortunately you get what you pay for. Half of chips away have been trained within a week. I applied to them and they didn't want fully skilled paint sprayers. Probably for the fact that any paint sprayer with any kind of skill level and quality of work would never leave a job like they do. Absolutely shocking work. Its worth paying more for a vag approved body shop to do it. I'm vag approved and some of the work I've seen over the years is shocking. Some people have zero standards. Gonna post my motor up on here later as I've just painted a fe bits on it. Some before and afters to make people appreciate how it should look for your money. Hope you get it sorted mate. Shame your not near me (Leeds) I would of been happy to help :)

Wish I'd have known that a few weeks ago, I had some little student tosser scrape the side of my A3 in Woodhouse Lane. Took a punt on a local garage and they did a decent job, but wish I'd had found someone proper :)

No way! Hate people that don't care about other peoples property, makes my blood boil. Whenever I park anywhere I take a picture of my car parked next to each car with registrations. If there's any damage I report them for leaving the scene of an accident. Worth a shot lol! Take it your a Leeds lad then? I'm whinmoor side of Leeds. Ill post the link of the paintwork I've just done :) if ya need owt just give me a shout

Yeah, I'm over in Wortley, so not far at all.

I was lucky in a sense, was going to the car, and there's this couple asking if I drive a white Audi. "Uh oh" I thought. They'd seen this nob in a Peugeot scrape up the side trying to get into the next space, but got his reg. As we were talking I realised I could see every way out of the car park, and said he'd gone up rather than down so was still around. I saw a little red mist, and got my Liam Neeson out. Found his car three floors away, and he had a half hour left on his ticket so I waited around. He came back and for him bang to rights and he paid up cash for the damage. He couldn't believe it when the same white Audi he'd hit was parked opposite...haha

The police were less than useless, I tried reporting for falling to stop after an accident and I got some jumped up PC on the line that stated under no circumstances would they attend whilst the car was still there and tried to fob me off "is that okay with you?" When I told him I wasn't happy and continue to require a police to attend he started giving me a load of further guff about not liking my tone. Luckily still, he was on speaker phone and one of the car parks security people chipped in and told him she'd witnessed his tone (it wasn't good) and would be supporting a complaint against him. They still didnt come, mind.

So that was the last time I parked in Woodhouse Lane...

That's lucky mate and atleast he paid up. Police tell you not to take the law I to your own hands, but when you ring them it's like talking to the secretary at your local doctors surgery, just even less helpful. Lucky and un lucky all at the same time ey. Only place I park in Leeds is the light and even then I'm hesitant. Can't trust nobody.

That is stunning. Makes me wanna change away from a white car...

Thanks mate, should be nice once I've finished detailing it. I like red, looks mint when polished. I do have a soft spot for white aswell tho. That would have been my second choice :)

here's the work they did on my rear bumper....

I told him I was horrified by the repair. He said, no-one else would notice!!
After 5 mintues of me me moaning, he got stroppy with me and said 'fine I wont charge you then!' He turned his back and walked back into his workshop.

Thats the total wrong attitude to have! It doesn't matter who would notice it.... Its a case of you want a good job doing otherwise you wouldn't have taken it for repair in the first place! No wonder the trade has such a bad name. I'm speechless... If I painted a car like that I would be sacked on the spot and rightly so! I'm sorry to see that this is what people supply as a "good job" hope you get it sorted mate. I would go as high as possible to get it rectified

A half-ar**d job like that gets British Industry a bad name. That's Watchdog material right there, & I'm sure if his bosses were threatened with something like that they'd soon have it sorted.

Start by e-mailing the pictures you've posted above to Chips-away Head Office, asking nicely what they intend to do to rectify the damage their operative has done! If they refuse to play nice, threaten them with National exposure... I bet they blink first.

My local chips away is good and the quality of the finish is excellent, however the paint they use is thin as feck, and stone chips cause a lot more damage (Large chips in the paint) If you want font body panels painting and you want them to last find a good body shop with a proper spray booth, that can can bake the paint on and use decent 2k paint.

Thats a shame mate, i could have a done a mint job for ya, i use top quality products aswell. Downside to a smart repair is most only use 1k lacquer which is more or less the same as what you get out of an aerosol can. Not only is it thin as mentioned above, it also offers zero uv protection. Eventually it just dulls off. Its worth paying the extra for a job that will last and will also make ya smile when ya wax it on a weekend :)

Yeah I emailed that pictures to Chipsaway head office. Absolutely no reply lol.
