Corrosion warranty with Audi

As most people will know the aluminium trims arouns the windows and the roof bars started having marks on them like milky marks.

Has anyone been succesful with getting them changed under the corrosion warranty?

was just wondering before I phone Audi myself and look like a fool if they say no lol

I read somewhere that the "milky" finish was due to somewhere during the life of the car, someone has cleaned it with the wrong cleaning agent type. The chrome trim and roof rails on avants ar brushed aluminium I understand, which can f#ck up if a standard metal polish is used to clean it up.....so I read.

I think it will be an outside chance at the least of you getting a claim accepted. Never really bothered me to be fair. May be an idea to contact your friendly neighbourhood Audi garage to ask them what the craic is.

hi mate. The car it's self has a 13 year corrosion warrenty, the trims etc tend to be covered for upto 3 years in exceptional cases. I don't think they would honour them and if they did it would be a gesture of good will. You could approach audi customer services as it costs nothing to ask but I'm doubtful that you will be successful. Other option is, get someone to machine polish chem. you will find they polish straight up with a good compound unless they are really hammered?

My previous car (b6) had a mix of various shades of milky trims when I bought is secondhand , as part of the purchase deal the supplying ( Audi ) dealer changed some of them and scratched the paint in taking the old ones off and incredibly dented the door skins in putting the new ones on !!

I had a battle with Audi customer services who eventually sent me copy of a service bulletin stating it was a problem in the cleaning of the car in the past and they would not do anything about it at all .

You wont be able to polish out the marking as its under the coating / lacquer -- replacement is the only cure . When I got a new b7 a while back I auto glymmed them and now look after the strips ( and the car ) like a baby . Interesting to note BMW have similar bright work and as far a I know they do not have the same problem ?

Was chatting to my neighbour last night. His Volvo V70 has exactly the same milky trim problem. It's only 2 years old and like the Audi stuff won't polish out.

I suspect that was one of my posts that you read. The window trims are made of anodised aluminium and the owner's manual specifically warns not to clean them with chrome cleaner. Trouble is, of course, by the time most of us get to own the cars, the damage has already been done by previous owners who didn't bother reading the manual.

It is the window trims, the roof bars have come out good with some metal polish and elbow grease lol

but the window trims you cant do nothing as theres some clear layer over it

I know skoda will change it on there cars as it's a common problem. But yet to see audi of it

I did mine while it was in the body shop this week. Polished up a treat. Main thing is not to use traffic film remover on them.

I don't use TFR anyway, but others prefer an easy life. You cant always help what people use in the past tho I guess

Yes mate, I just used my machine polisher and 3m fast cut compound (green top)
They polished up a treat. But if I ever see them starting to look dull, I get straight to work on them. If there left for a while I guess the results could be different
